It is ridiculous. You wonder how it is possible for this shit to occur in this country. Who cares what Roger Clemens puts in his body or anyone else's for that matter. It is wrong!

Then don't lie about it under oath in front on Congress.

They had no business asking in the first place.

Sure they did. A fellow congress performed an investigation that he was illegally taking drugs. Clemens is a huge role model and steriods/hgh is a huge problem among young adults.

If MLB isn't going to do anything about it, the congressional committee against illegal drug use is going to.

Illegal drug use. WOW. Are you serious? Sounds like an oxymoron to me.
Guys like you make me sick. Why is it any of your business or Congress's what Roger clemens or anyone else in this country wants to put in their bodies. It is not your business.

I don't care if Roger Clemens, Barry Bonds or any of the litany of other former players do or have used illegal substances.

All I am saying is that there is a justifiable reason that Clemens is being investigated.

LMAO. Then change the laws. So, it should be alright for 12 year old to drink alcohol, do cocaine, take steroids, etc.

Again, you're slow to understand that these sports athletes are role models and many children and young adults emulate them.

So what?

It is not the governments job to police society. Parents should be guiding their kids, not the government.

And FFS, celebrities have been doing drugs since the get-go and I don't see them in front of congress.

Only in America.

That's funny. Surprised you're not complaining about the other 1000s of laws that the government has put in place to police society. If you don't like it, write your congressman.

Yes, they do have better things to do. However, putting attention on this means that it takes attention away from real problems that aren't being looked at.

There are a lot of confused people in this thread.

The MLB is covered by an anti-trust exemption. Therefore, they are not subject to federal antitrust law, a special privilege. The federal government, giving the MLB a special privilege, has to make sure that they are giving this privilege to an industry that isn't corrupted or "bad".

This goes back to Teddy Roosevelt's Progressive reforms where he stated that we have to allow "good" trusts and destroy "bad" trusts.

Where did I say watching baseball? Ask any little league pitcher, who he idolizes or wants to be when they grow-up.

Also, going after the big fish like Bonds and Clemens will also be deterrent for other players and force MLB to be more serious about it. Slowly, it trickles down and down in the ranks.

High school players may now be less inclined to juice-up to be like their hero.

I *really* disapprove of people who put too ManyBeers in their body then get in the drivers seat of a vehicle.

Here's the big surprise... there are other people in this country besides yourself. And sometimes you have to deal with them. The majority feel that steroid use should be illegal.

What's the alternative if steroids were legal? Demanding people destroy their bodies for our amusement? :Q Yeah, that sounds like good entertainment...

I believe there is a legitimate reason for this. Something about the MLB not being subject to interstate commerce laws for some reason, and due to this unique status, it's up to Congress to provide oversight over its actions - something along those lines.

Also, the MLB is partially funded by tax dollars, as well.

It's a bit more than Congressmen being "nosy," methinks.

Legislating role models is fuckin stupid. It's not even something you can control to some extent. The "think of the children" excuse is getting pretty stale.

What's really at play here? Easy, they're legislating the base puritanical impulses of this nation for political gain.

BTW, people take steroids because steroids work. That's pretty much a known fact. Sending baseball players to jail won't change that.

BWAHahahahahahahahh,, oh, that's rich.... Don't pick one particular law....

What do you call DUI checkpoints, "Click it or ticket", John / Hooker and Buy / Bust stings and most police depts. abject refusal to investigate residential burglary?

Come on, you really don't believe the propaganda , do you?

They only investigate that which gets them positive press, re-inforces the dominant paradigm and is within budget. Patrol officers and Public Service Programs (after school / truancy) budgets are the first to go.
Remember, police are not in the crime prevention and reduction business, they are in LAW ENFORCEMENT, no matter the size or type of department.

Last on any budget cut list is the current administration / executive compensation and their Wish List of "Toys".

This is a great example of distracting the public while going through their pockets.

Here's another shocking fact.... Professional Baseball isn't part of the public trust, No "Professional" Sport is.

These people are paid cartoon wages to perform the function of a cartoon. I expect these performers to do whatever is necessary to perform to whatever level they feel is needed to compete in their field.
Secondly, we have removed them from any legitimate pedestal the minute we sanctioned, condoned or allowed to participate any one that acted the thug or is an actual convicted criminal on the roster. The simple fact that Sprewell still has a job and was by that very allowance made a hero for disrespecting the coach, first as "The Coach" and secondly as a person only underscores my point.

We have only ourselves to blame FIRST, before we start with the accusations towards players and performance enhancing drugs.

I coouldn't care less, I know the only reason this is an issue is because this is an Election year. The more people who become disillusioned with "What I once believed in..." be it baseball, or politics, the less likely that person is to vote.
