My theory on conservative happiness vs. liberal unhappiness is that politics makes people unhappy. Liberals are more likely, in my opinion, to engage in politics and political debates. That sort of thing makes me cynical and unhappy, so perhaps that's it.

I think it's more of a persistent conservative media induced mass hysteria though.
The media like Fox is tasked with keeping conservatives in a constant state of fear that someone is coming:
Iraqis are coming with yellow cake
Obama is coming for their gun
Obama is coming WITH government health care
Obama is coming FOR YOUR government health care
Immigrants are coming
etc. and so on.
But the key is to move on to the next scare before the audience has a chance to reflect on how much of BS the previous scares were, and to never let them relax.

What you call a "need to feel superior" is really just a need to stem the flow of misinformation.

Granted, many on the left are guilty of spinning at times as well, though to a MUCH lesser extent. We need to cut that shit out, because it just makes it that much more difficult to call out the right for their bullshit, and it isn't necessary anyway. Fighting fire with fire is extremely counter-productive, especially because the right is on a path to self-destruction without any help from us.

Most of the conservatives I know get their news via internet sources vs TV sources. Personally I watch local news between 5:15 am to 6:00 am so I can see the weather and traffic conditions, I don't watch any TV news the rest of the day.

As a liberal, I don't directly listen to any of the buffoonery "reported" by conservative media channels. I hear it from one of the above.

Liberals don't rove around sniffing out stuff to go crazy about. We have the media platforms noted (again, gawker, etc.), but personally, fuck the conservative's titty attacks. We would rather watch the John Stewarts mock and point, while we chuckle along.
