Overall I agree with both of you guys as well.

The whole IPA fad is sad and pathetic. Hops is just one of many possible flavors that are to be used in combination. I much more enjoy a delicious, full flavor belgian tripel/quad over the shit most micro breweries are pumping out.

I can see the microbrew hatred as well, ~75%+ of what they release is all pale ale related. They do the occasional dirty witbier or flavorful stout though - and I don't mind trying them.

But nothing compares to the likes of these:

I just picked up some Delirium Tremens at my local Costco For $9/bottle. Haven't had a chance to drink it yet.

I can't stand anything too hoppy either and living in San Diego, I mostly thought all craft beer were hoppy IPAs thanks to San Diego being basically the IPA capital of the world thanks to Stone, Green Flash, etc. Somehow I ended up picking up this beer one time: http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/alesmith-grand-cru/2488/ and it basically made me fall in love with AleSmith. Nut Brown is great, their Speedway Stout is wonderful and they are always coming out with a variant on it, and they have quite a few other great beers.

Just buy a coffee pot and pre-ground coffee. Takes 2 minutes of work and you can schedule it to be made when you get up. No folgers garbage needed. Most likely he lost his taste buds smoking too much and now he cant taste or smell anything. At that point you might as well drink folgers.

Instant coffee always tastes watered down. No matter how strong you make it.

Not really a coffee snob, but I can be picky.

I mainly switch between Dunkin Donuts Columbian, Wawa original, and Starbucks for iced coffee in the summer.
For some reason I like Starbucks iced coffee but not a huge fan of their regular coffee.

I notice the local grocery store has Starbucks VIA instant coffee on sale. I've read some decent reviews of it, so I think I may give it a try.

Growing up, my parents drank only instant coffee, even though all of our relatives made real coffee of some kind. I never really thought about it much until I grew up. I figure my dad probably got a taste for it in the army. I hadn't seen him for a couple of years, but the last time I visited him he was making coffee from a little four cup drip machine. I was amazed.

Via's good, but expensive. Where instant(not talking Via specifically) falls down, is when it cools. I'll make a cup and think "not bad", but as it cools, it develops a sour taste, and off flavors. Real coffee tastes fine when it cools.

Here's my coffee setup. I need to simplify a bit, but I have the traditional cuisinart burr grinder, aeropress, airtight coffee ground holder, a bit o creamer, some whip for the top for those days when I'm feeling saucy, and a knife to stir the creamer in the coffee.
