Except there's no proof of gods, anywhere. You can, however, see men all around you. You can even touch them. I shit you not!

To be perfectly frank, there is no argument to begin with. A lack of proof against its existence is not proof of its existence, nor is it an argument for the logic or respectability of having faith in it. That's insanity.

You don't need faith to have a lack of faith, either, so let's not get into the whole bullshit-storm of "you believe god doesn't exist, that requires a leap of faith, too! hurf durf".

There is some argument out there (which can easily be Googled) that supports the assertion that "Literalism", the concept of taking the words in the Bible as literal truth, is itself a heresy. I tend to agree.

No, the logic does not hold. I am hearing you, I understand that men wrote the Bible. I also understand that I believe in an all-powerful God.

I hear you loud and clear, and I am completely OK with the fact that science cannot prove my faith. I also know that there's not a "right" time for everyone when they start believing.

You and I have completely different views of the World and that's fine. I understand your view but I also understand my own, that's the one I am going to stick with.

Not by the major religions it wasn't. The big religions based on the bible ALL sold the bible as the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. Christianity sold every single comma and period in the bible as the word of god. The literal argument was a mental masturbation exercise participated in by non-practicing "scholars" in the insulated world of academia. The religions themselves did not engage in the practice to even a tiny degree. The bible was viewed as unassailable fact and in many times and places it was a death sentence to even suggest otherwise.
