i have mine set to 65 right now i believe from the default 55

it should be set to 74 if you want the standardized 90 FOV @ 4:3 = 100 FOV @ 16:10 = 106 @ 16:9...

but ultimately what you want is up to you

you might enjoy a narrower/more focused FOV as it can certainly help with longer range engagements as I have been pointing out

Second, about vehicles. What's up with the random rate of fire? I'd let the APC's main gun reload entirely after a burst, click, and only one shot comes out, cue in another 10 seconds reload for a full burst, then only half of what I expect comes out (so to speak...). It's doing my head in...

If you bought BC2 on steam, you have to buy vietnam on steam, if you bought a retail disk BC2 or through ea store, you have to go through ea store to get vietnam. Hopefully steam will refund you the game.

Its a preset volley. If there are 5 rounds or so in the volley and you stop shooting at 4, then the next time you pull the trigger you're only going to get the remnant of the last volley, ie 1 shot. So you just need to change the way you play and hold the trigger down through the entire volley and treat each volley as a single shot.

What map(s) were you playing? I played some Vietnam Cao Son map, CQ, with about 8 guys and I got this:

I know the Vietnam maps perform better than the regular maps.

Also, trying to run a 15 minute bench I have trouble not getting an end of round in the middle. I need to run a few more trials before trying to change any settings.

These are pretty good averages - about 10fps higher than what I was getting. Could be your slightly higher CPU overclock. Also, I was running with higher quality sound. The fact that you got a higher fps than I did definitely points to the CPU being the limiter, though.

The only thing I'd be concerned about are those minimums. That is pretty low, and if you're hitting that a lot, I could see the action coming to a halt. Perhaps that's a video card memory limitation, or it could be the CPU (but I don't experience that on my system).

Overall, in your case, I think you'd get some improvement from a new video card, at least in the sense that you'll be able to run higher settings. I don't think you'll go much above 55fps though.

Let us know how DX9 works and if the gameplay is smoother (i.e. better minimums).

Nope, Vietnam achievements are not working on the PC. They apparently are on the consoles.

Looks like the nVidia beta drivers didn't change anything on my e8400/GTX460 system. GPU usage is still around 70% and CPU is pegged at 97% or so. Here are a couple of FRAPS runs:

what did you use to monitor gpu/cpu usage? curious to see how off balance i am.

i think i see some increase with my Q6600 3.0 and GTX 460.
they documented just 7% increase in the notes though for BC2.

Using afterburner for GPU usage. It really bounces all over the place, so it's impossible to give a clear average. Anywhere from 50-85%. For CPU usage, I just have a CPU monitor on my sidebar. Pegged at about 95-97% - it doesn't bounce around.

The 7% increase in the release notes for the nvidia beta drivers was GTX580-specific, but it also says "Increases performance for GeForce 400 Series and 500 Series GPUs in several PC games vs. the latest Release 260 drivers." So I don't doubt there's a bit of increase in there for other cards. I just can't see it on my e8400 system.
