...but would definitely eliminate some of the feeling of being shot by an unseen shooter that others have complained about....

Someone asked about turning off the KillCam last week. This is one of the reasons I think it should be kept on. Especially for noobs, but even for some veteran players I know, Spawn..die, spawn...die a few times without ever seeing your shooter = rage-quit. Not fun.

BTW Termie, the server we were on last night, I was on Vent with the clan that owned it (CgC). They were impressed with your politeness (because you said "This is a cool server!", and "Goodbye" when you left). They noted your name, and were gonna invite you to Vent if you showed up again. I mentioned I knew you from here. FWIW...

sounds spot on termie

I see what you did there... :)

Funny, I didn't actually get that joke about being "spot on", but I'm glad Zargon agreed (if he actually meant to agree!).

Always good to hear positive feedback from other players. I try to be as polite as possible, especially given that we don't have chat in-game. I figure whether you're owning or being owned, it's good to show that there's a human on the other side trying to have a good time along with everyone else (except the aimbots, I suppose). I'd definitely hop on that server's vent next time if invited. I assume it's still one channel for both teams, right?

And on a related note...I think we could all use a refresher on those vehicle etiquette rules you reposted. I was reminded of a few things that aren't always obvious, like going down with your ailing tank so that it respaws at your base. One problem that would be fixed with squad chat is the issue of a driver leaving a vehicle. Sometimes, I wish I could say "I'm going to get out of this humvee and attack that flag/tank/sniper/etc., so you guys might want to follow". Hard to do that without chat, so I've definitely left people stranded without a driver on occasion.

New Battlefield Blog Post: Community Wednesday #8

BY: zh1nt0
POSTED : Aug 11, 2010, 02:45AM

You know how we had a Twitter competition last week?

Well, player "hotspot" won the rare signed BF 1942 t-shirt. This week however I'm doing the same thing. I'm giving away a rare BF2 compass. This goes great with anyone who played BF2 and it's a nice piece of merchandise made to a high quality.

Now, the rules changed a bit so these are the new ones.

1. Follow OfficialBFBC2 on Twitter
2. Follow instructions on the OfficialBFBC2 Twitter account. http://twitter.com/OfficialBFBC2
3. The Instructions will appear at 10:00 CET on Thursday the 12th of August.
4. The Twitter give-away stretches from Thursday 12th of August 10:00 CET to Friday 10:00 CET.

This twitter exclusive competition is open for everyone and winners will be randomly selected out of all retweets. The higher your veteran status , the higher your chance of winning some cool apparel. This give-away will keep on going until I run out of stock and that won't happen in a while so I suggest you brush up your veteran statuses and get a chance to win some awesome stuff. The reason why this has been changed to a 24-hour giveaway is that everyone from around the world should have a chance to win this :).

Community Pressroom

For all you news posters and news hunters out there, there is a new Community Pressroom available. This helps all the news posters get their information verified as official and will keep more members up to date on things going on in the community.

So head on over here to check it out: http://groups.google.com/group/community-pressroom

BF2 Nations Cup!

Want to wear that country-tag? Get your game on and sign up on the Nations Cup page at ESL. http://www.esl.eu/eu/bf2/news/131468/

Now, since I love eSports and am sure that this is going to be a great tournament, I have a small proposition for the teams making it to the finals. How about playing the final at the DICE office, streamed live and having a winner’s party after that?

Frequently asked questions

So, there are a lot of questions going around the Community I'm going to list a few answers to your questions here. The top 3 asked questions of this week are:

How come SPECACT hasn't been made available for PC?

SPECACT was causing issues with the last update so we made the decision to roll back the SPECACT changes so we could release important crash fixes and other features. SPECACT is still planned for release on PC.

Are new maps coming for BFBC2 in the future?

Vietnam will bring more maps to BC2. Map Pack 6 is due for release next week. There will be more information on the maps coming for Vietnam the closer we get to a release date.

What is the status of BF 1943? It was released on consoles, but is it coming to PC?

We have no new information at this point. When we do, we will be happy to share it with the Community.

If you have any questions regarding Community News or Battlefield, feel free to contact me on www.twitter.com/zh1nt0

So, I guess Map Pack 6 is the 18th, then...:)

==================================================

I set a reminder in the Steam group for another get together this Friday. I looked back at old postings and saw that the time for previous matches was 10PM EST/7 PM PST, so that's what I made it. It actually works better for me, but if you want to get on earlier, go for it.

I wanted to thank Adam8281 for jumping on TS last week. Unfortunately, we ended up on opposite teams, so my incentive for strategic discussions was hampered...

I worked on the server last night and this is the current setup:

I've set up a somewhat different Bad Company 2 Server, if any of you want to try it out.
It's a 16 player server, located in Dallas Texas, USA. If there are eight or less players on the server, it will cycle through all the Conquest and Squad Deathmatch maps. If there are more than eight players, it will cycle through ALL of the Conquest, Rush, and Squad Deathmatch maps.

I call it "Maximum Variety". It's alternating Conquest (1 round, and Rush (2 rounds, attack/defend), with a Squad Deathmatch map thrown in every 4th map.

The server is not standard Hardcore (minimap & crosshairs, etc., are enabled), but has several settings that DICE considers "Hardcore":

Friendly Fire is On. If you shoot your team mate, they will die. That's just the the way I think it should be played.
Hopefully, this being on will affect some of the standard strategies people have been using in Rush, ie, mortaring or lobbing grenades or Gustavs in to the Mcoms where several of your team mates are guarding it, impervious to your mayhem.
I don't think this affects how mines work, I haven't tested how this affects C4 on the UAV/jeeps/choppers, but I assume it will destroy the vehicle now.
Tank drivers will have to learn to sit still in their tank while it's being repaired, and not run over their engineer team mates, or they won't be repaired.

3D spotting is Off. Spotting works like it did in BF2. Spotted players will show up on the minimap, and the main map, but will not show up in the main view with triangles over their head!

Everything else on this server is set at default ("core"). Like many of you, I would have been happy if they had recreated the BF2 experience with a new engine. This is one of the goals I had in mind when setting up this server. If the server becomes popular, upping the player count to max is certainly a possibility.

Additional settings:

Killcam is On. I know this one is controversial to some people. Especially for noobs, but even for some veteran players that I know, spawn...die, spawn...die a few times without ever seeing your shooter = rage-quit. Not fun. Turning the tables and getting revenge on the guy that killed you five times in a row? Fun! Good for you that you know some great sniping spots...find a few of them and learn to rotate through them. Also, this setting means the server is teabag enabled! (Important to some people I know!)

Teams are randomized on every map change. A third party program is being utilized to shuffle the teams, preserving squads. If you are in a squad with your buddies, your whole group is moved together. Squads and players are ranked based on their performance in the previous round, and an attempt is made to evenly distribute the skill across the teams. Hopefully, this keeps the games competitive and prevents one side from dominating across several rounds, until all the people on the other side just leave in disgust!

Here is the server info

In game you can search for just "GFC" (Upper Case!) in the server name filter, and make sure Hardcore servers are not filtered out.

Feel free to use our TeamSpeak 3 Server at 64.34.171.212:9996

This servers tag line is: IN WAR THERE ARE NO RULES! If it's in the game, it's fair game. Adapt, overcome, or GTFO!

Let me know if this sounds interesting to you, or if you have any other suggestions!

See you on the Battlefield!

looks good!

i hate on HC getting TK's when mortaring a lit mcom because guys rush to squat on it to defend it from being disarmed. sit back and shoot them BEFORE they get to it, or sit where you can see the mcom

Um maybe just hold off on that mortar if you see your guys around the MCOM and mortar after they die?

when I set the strike there was no one there

my own team was rushing to the MCOM into a mortar strike that was already happening giving me TK's

who the hell does that? as an attacker?

Stupid people do that shit. I hate it!!

Another annoyance of mine is airwhoring on certain rush maps. An entire squad of guys got booted from the server I was playing on because they were airwhoring the Hind on Atacama desert, They had two engineers riding in the transport slots repairing damage, the pilot had flares equipped so tracing was worthless. I actually traced them 4 times before finally myself and two of my squadmates(who were both server admins) managed to all fire rockets at the same time and take him down. In ten minutes they had managed to kill almost 70 people on my team, and thinking the server admin was joking when he said dont get in that chopper again, his whole squad did...and were promptly banned.

At the risk of sounding argumentative, wouldn't their use of the helicopter really just be evidence of good squad play (pilot with flares, gunner, and engineers)? I've certainly been a victim of air attacks in BC2, tracing to no avail as they pop flares, but they're not cheating. They're just exploiting an asset provided to them in the game.

Well normally I'd say that too, but it was beyond that, they were attacking, we were defending, they more or less spawn camped with the helo. They destroyed all the buildings/cover did not attack the M-COMs at all. Otherwise I'd say sure it was great squadplay, especially if they were helping their team win, which they weren't. They were just using it to rack up kills/points. That was the point at which the server admin started warning them. He told them, use the heli in support of your team, not just spawn camping/racking up points. They didn't. He asked politely multiple times. So he banned them.

Ok, how would you use a heli to help your team win? Apparently killing the opposition isn't it. The m-coms are in the enemies spawn, so I don't see how they could not spawn camp.

Sounds like fail by the rest of their team. I would have taken advantage of the opportunity provided by the guys in the chopper, and the round would have ended quickly, and you could have all moved on with your lives.

Sorry I wasn't there to help. :awe:

Another slow news day for BFBC2.

I signed up for the Community Press Room, a Google Group setup up by DICE Community manager zh1nt0, to try and get news for you guys faster. (This thread was my press pass :) ) So far, no "exclusives".

Here is one of the few interesting exchanges between one of the members and zh1nt0:

Neil Jarrett said:
My questions are what new maps are we going to see in BC2 NAM? Plus
how many? I have seen on a stats website already showing NAM versions
of current maps on BC2 so I hope we arent going to be seeing a quick
change of a few bushes and then calling them new maps. Plus I thought
DICE would never charge for new maps or create expansion packs as it
seperates the community?
zh1nt0 said:
This does not separate the Community. It is still a game within the
Battlefield Franchise and also a game within the Bad Company series.
Please understand that I can not comment on Vietnam but there will be
new maps for BC2:V.

Well, he's still new, I don't think get "got" the jist of how paid expansions seperate the community. Unless he's just regurgitating the company line hes been fed.

==================================================

Lots of people here, there, and everywhere asking about details on Map Pack 6. But you guys already got that info :).

==================================================

In case you have any hope left at all for completely new maps in the near future....

twitter.com/L0Ki85: "@zh1nt0 so no new maps for BC2 at all then, because afaik Vietnam is an expansion with seperate levelling & classes, almost a different game"
twitter.com/zh1nt0: "@L0Ki85 I don't comment on rumors and speculations. For BC2 however there are no 'new maps' coming."

==================================================

DICE is rolling out an Ultimate version of Battlefield Bad Company 2, which includes BFBC2 (w/VIP maps (duh)), Onslaught mode, AND BF1943. Yes, it's only for consoles. Sorry if I got your hopes up! Here is a listing on Amazon.

I was so excited for onslaught mode, and I think I'm going to give up hope. Huge bummer. :(

This game was fun
for the first 30 minutes.

Thanks for contributing :p

What is the Vent info again? I had it once but lost it and I fail at locating it in this thread. I will try to get on on Friday and at least aspire to be as nice as Termie :)

I don't think I'll bother with BC2:NAM. At this point I got my money's worth and I might as well just wait until BF3

Just taking a look at all of the pins. They all seem fairly easy, except for MCOM attacker. I don't think I'll ever get that one. Destroy 4 MCOMs? I'm lucky if I can destroy 1. And that's not usually because the opposition is too good, but I'm also fighting my teammates to arm it before they do.

you can do it on a small server... when it's barely populated
