Ive had one crash since the latest patch much better than the 1 in 3 game crashes before.

:cookie: :p There was another patch today and I haven't looked to see what it was for but I didn't have any crashes in 8 rounds so

Figured out the choppers now. Like the way they play. It all depends on if the other team is all recon/engineer, but if they aren't it's a lot of fun.

FYI I got around to installing the windows 8.1 preview. It runs BF4 a hundred times better. I went from having min frame rates of 20 at medium settings to min frame rates of 70 at full ultra. Using the beta drivers (I had also tried the 320 drivers in windows 7). My system is a 3770k and SLI 680's.

Glad to see you have joined us! Windows 8.1 is just perfect for BF4 !

Has windows 8.1 been released?
Personally I feel there is far too much drama over win 8. Its fast and stable, yes metro isn't for the desktop but just go to classic with one click and yes it's a pain to power off but come on these aren't deal breakers.

I have to say windows 8 is total garbage though. I've been using computers since I was 4 years old and I can't figure out how to minimize, maximize, close windows, see whats running, etc. It's the most absurdly unintuitive shit OS I've ever seen. And I use an IBM z9 mainframe at work! That really says something... Microsoft managed to design an OS even worse than this:

I agree. I bought 2 copies when they were selling it for $30. Tried it on my htpc first then when back to Windows 7. At least it was cheap. I haven't had too many problems with BF4 on Windows 7, once I got it to launch. Maybe crashed 3 times in 7 hours. Kinda sad that I consider that acceptable.

What are you talking about, everything has changed. There is no minimize, maximize, or close buttons on windows any more. And apparently the only way to launch applications is to go to the metro interface and type in the name of the app to search. And if you don't know the exact name, you have to go google it to figure it out! For instance, I was trying to get to the sound settings app. I forgot it was called "manage audio properties" and not sound settings so it took me 15 minutes to figure out how to find it.

I have to use task manager to switch between apps on a normal basis? Seriously?

You just completely discouraged me from trying Win8 for BF4, lol. Even if I could get 20 more fps.

Don't base framerates on the beta, this game is going to be getting a LOT of patches in the near future

The free trial works until January but I'll be really pissed if the Windows 8 performance continues to be significantly superior by then, requiring me to pay $200 for this turd of an OS. What was Microsoft thinking? I mean what the fuck? lol.

it's all there, old control panel (right click the modern ui shortcut area, where you used to have the start menu, one of many ways of launching control panel and advanced settings quickly) have sound settings (not to mention right click on the "speaker" icon), windows explorer, you can create shortcuts on your desktop, keyboard shortcuts are mostly the same, for example alt+f4, win+r, crtl+shift+esc, win+pause break and so on...

it really surprises me that one would have such a hard time... if you don't like the modern ui you can ignore it for 95% of the time, I don't use any modern ui app regularly, and I've been satisfied with win8 for over a year...

Yeah i doubt i will even be buying Windows 8 simply for one game,8.1 preview just by itself is causing plenty of issues in other games for me which means i won't be purchasing it most likely.

do you know what alt tab is?

only METRO changed, if you are outside metro everything is the same. I would avoid metro apps at all costs personally, but if you hit start menu you will also pull out of the aps

if you hit the windows button and type what you want, like say....CONTROL PANEL you find it rather quickly, probably by the time you type CON

almost nothing you just said it true, at all.

he doesn't know what he is doing, that's the problem, not the OS.

Can I install 8.1 on one of my backup HDD's and run BF4 beta off my SSD that Windows 7 is on?

I know i'll sacrifice some speed on the desktop this way, but 256gb fills up pretty quick. I can't figure out what is using up all the space on my SSD. Huge game installs are probably an issue.

I think all I have on there is Win 7, BF3, Skyrim, and ME3 and I still only have about 60 gb free out of 256gb. I did a disk cleaner and got rid of temp files to even get to that 60gb free number.

I get an average of 50 FPS @ 1080p on Ultra settings on my 3570K with single 670GTX on WINDOWS 7 on the nVidia beta 331.40 drivers..

Can you please stop scaring the n00bs into thinking they need windows 8?

Any wild dips still?Last time i played the beta it was on 8.1 without issues and the time before i had tried windows 7 multiple times on different drivers before the patches and well it was stutter city.

Keep hearing windows 7 now runs this game pretty well since the patches so hope that's true but i guess i will find out on my own this evening.

Keeping my Win ME and win Vista cds comfy in the closet with other wasted purchases.
That pretty much sums up what Ive heard from just about everyone who has tried it. :D

This beta has brought about the only positive comments Ive heard about 8, and after the patches it appears that now means nothing.

Yeah skippy:), it runs fine for the most part...

Seems to run fine to me now on windows 7,my biggest issue seems to be a evident bottleneck with my processor causing the framerate to occasionally dip into the 40s and keep in mind i am running 1366x768 ultra no msaa period and gpu usage hasn't hit over 89%.

I like to aim for a 60+ fps experience so i guess a overclocked haswell i7 is in my future cause no matter the settings i get the same exact fps.

If you're having issues running Win8 after giving it a try for a week, then maybe computers aren't your cup of tea. My favorite icon in Metro is the one labeled...... DESKTOP. It takes me to my desktop where I have windows explorer and can create shortcuts and what not for programs without having to search for them on the Metro interface

Out of curiosity, whats everyone's skill level? Mine is 516. Playing on lots of losing teams against higher ranked guys.
