I've got everything tweaked as far as I can. The CPUs are running on their Winter OC's (3.45GHz) and I've got all 4 video cards running with their shaders at 1900MHz !!! (apparently, that is the magic number for all of my G92 based cards. I don't have the thermal headroom for raising volts and anything over 1.9GHz starts giving me the rare EUE here and there)

I've been getting clobbered with the 511 point GPU work units :( , but at the same time I'm starting to see a few of the 1760 point SMP work units :)

It's a close race and I'm loving it.

Another disadvantage for linux: No software for overclocking just the shaders.

I tried bumping up the core clock on my GTX+ (stock 738 MHz) to 800 and start getting EUEs so now I'm trying 780 which should be around 1900 MHz on the shaders. Time will tell.

Sid, will your son be home for xmas?

I'm afraid my son will still be trapped away at Great Lakes (boot camp) for the Christmas Holiday. He graduates on Jan 15th and will get Cinderella liberty for the following weekend. I'm going to go up there (Chicago) and take a cheesy little plastic tree and his presents and we'll have our Christmas then.

As to the overclocks, I found that (with fans at 80%) I could run (very) nearly EUE free with my GTX+ core at 790 (they're already clocked pretty close to the edge for a G92 at stock) before I learned it was OK to unlink it. Can you take manual control of the fans in Linux?

I just got a new nvidia GPU WU:

WU 5766
353 points
6354 ppd on a 9800GTX+ @738 GHz!!!!
48 second stepping times!!

If we get a ton of these released, hitting 10 mill should be no problem!:p

EDIT: Thanks for the stats Peter!!

great crunching everyone!

Anyone getting a hardware related xmas present???

Just received my new Intel Q9550 from Newegg. Granted, it's only replacing an X2 5200+, but should still be a bit of a boost once I get her online....

OK, put 2 smp clients on that baby, and you are good for 4400 ppd ! The x2 5200 was lucky if you got 1200 ppd, right ? We need all we can get, as we are loosing 10-20k ppd/day.

Guhhh I realized I forgot to configure 4 of my systems (2 of which are dualies) to my username. Aghhh no wonder my PPD dropped like a rock for 2 days. I've been also saving power by running my 4850 only for about 12 hours a day. Hopefully now we're back online and I threw in some last minute help with my Macbook Pro =)

Thanks Peter for the stats!

Nice Job everyone.....:)

I have had a small issue with Xp64. 1 smp and 1 Gpu. Gpu is Ati. Seems to hang on smp when a new WU comes along. I have to manually set the Affinity to keep the Gpu to 1 core and set the remaining 3 to smp. Xp 32 bit seems to work just fine but XP64 is irritating me...:|

Thanks for the stats, petrusbroder!!!

Somebody help me!

I took the ATI HD 2600 Pro out of the Pentium D Machine and put it in the FX-60 machine that runs 32 bit XP Pro. I'm running 1 SMP client and a GPU console client. I didn't know exactly how to configure things. I gave the SMP client 78% of the cpu and 2399 MB of Ram. I gave the GPU 20% of the cpu and 512 MB of RAM. I disabled the affinity changer. I pretty much pulled the numbers out of the air. From what I've read, the GPU doesn't require much from the cpu. I figured that I would use those numbers as a starting point, and adjust them based on help that I hope to receive from other people.

I don't know what to expect. The SMP and the GPU clients are running. It took the GPU client 43 minutes to reach 1%.

I would appreciate any and all advice.

Thanks

edit: 12/23/2008 ~1910 pst -- Something is way wrong -- The SMP client is at 86%, and 4 -15 minute checkpoints have been triggered - it's still not at 87% -- hmmm.

on a dual core machine, you won't have great luck running an ATI GPU and an SMP client. Your best results will come from running the GPU (set for slightly higher priority in the configuration) and a uniprocessor client (CLI)

There just aren't enough resources to get the WUs done in time with an ATI gpu client and an SMP competing for only two cores.

edit: I may be wrong about getting the units done in time. to configure you definitely need to let the GPU use 100% (same for the SMP) of what ever CPU it wants and set it for 'slightly higher' priority (gpu only, leave the SMP at it's default priority). Then you will just need to monitor progress and see if the system can do it. If not, then take the first advice and replace the SMP client with a uniprocessor client.

Well, she's up and running, but with the 2 leftover WU's from the dual days. I'll work on getting a couple SMP clients up on her tomorrow.

Did I mention that I love Christmas? :p

I've been trying to add a second 4850 to a Vista rig but I haven't been able to get a second GPU client to run. I have two monitors running (one connected to each 4850 card), but the second client gives me the following error message:

"At present your GPU is not supported or you need need a current driver."

I set up the second GPU client following the official Multi-GPU folding instructions, copying the folding folder, renaming it, setting up and modifying new shortcuts, but the second client just won't work. I can switch back and fort between the monitors, so I can see that Windows sees both cards

Since both the cards are identical models from the same company and the primary card works, what am I doing wrong? :disgust:

PS: I am using the newest version 8.12 Catalyst drivers.

Thanks for the input Markfw900.
It turned out that I was using -gpu2 when I should have been using -gpu1.
Anyways, the second card is up and running.

Does anyone know if an 8800GT can run with a 9800 Gx2 card in the same PC? :D

I don't see why not as long as you don't enable SLI, though I'm no expect so best wait for an educated answer ;).

Maybe you'd like to run F@H GPU on this QUAD 9800 GX2 rig!? :D.

Btw what ppd do you get on your 4850s?

On my new setup, even though they are identical cards, one shows 2940 and the other shows 2480. The first one just finished one that had it showing 5400, so maybe something is wrong with my set up. I used the Auto tune feature of the Catalyst Control Center last night when I got the dual GPU system working, and was so excited with the results that I did the same to two other ATI single card system. I haven't OC'd video cards in years.
Well, this morning I noticed how cool it was in my house (I have folding PC's warming my house :) ). Lo and behold, my dual system had stopped folding (unstable system errors) as had one of my other ATI systems. I eliminated the OC's and the dual system recovered, but I had to clear out the old work files on the single ATI card system to get it to work.

So short answer regarding ppd on 4850's - I don't know.

Does FahMon have a feature to report cumulative ppd per client?
