While I wasn't happy about the radical religion that blew up our buildings putting an item of worship so close to a place where people, they have some hefty balls to do something like this.

All of a sudden, even members of the community board that stupidly green-lighted the mosque this month are tearing their hair out.

"If the Japanese decided to open a cultural center across from Pearl Harbor, that would be insensitive," Sipos told me. My first guess without getting offended was they are some humans sort of like christians and hindus and buddhists et al who see the horrifying pain and sadness and terror that went on there and they wish to bring their version of love and healing to that very spot

I support Westboro's right to make assholes of themselves as long as they do it within the confines of the law. I also reserve my right to make inferences about their mental capacities and lack of common decency based on those actions. Likewise I support the right of this group to put up a mosque wherever they lawfully can, and to open it on whichever day they choose. I also reserve the right to infer that by choosing September 11 2011 as the opening day these people (specifically the ones participating in this occasion) are hateful creatures who are not deserving of any courtesy that is not demanded of me by the law.

I am not religious either and some people could see me as a liberal socialist. But i do know what is common sense. I have no problem with building a mosque. But that close and that date. Even if the mosque was that closely build and used as an info center to close gaps between cultures/religions, that date just ruined it all. Even if those people had honest intentions, the individual who chose that date did so deliberately.

I don't even necessarily have a huge problem with the location as I don't know how scarce real estate is in the neighborhood they want to build in. The date is blatantly disrespectful and leaves no ambiguity as to the kind of message they want to send out.
