And why sould they? The top oil producers aren't even US companies. In fact 60% of our oil is imported.

And of the 40% that's domestic, most of those companies are tiny. Even Exxonmobil, the biggest US company only ranks about #13th in reserves. Saudi Arabian Oil Company controls about 10 times the amount of oil Exxonmobil does.

That fact is "big" American oil companies aren't big. They're bench-warmers compared to all the oil controlled by the state-owned oil companies around the world.

You want to know who are oil masters are? Look in the Middle-east, Mexico, Venezuela, and even Canada.

Thanks dude, I did learn largest exporters of oil in the 4th grade social studies class.....isn't it September yet?? Don't you have to be back in school yet????

I wasn't replying to you, jackass, but since you brought up your education, let me suggest that you take a simple introduction to economics class since your understanding of how prices are set isn't even redumentary.

In fact, if you really care about your children, you get them as far away as possible from that void between your ears less their intellect be sucked away as quickly as yours has.

Genx87 - I don't know about anyone else, but I'm waiting for you to supply a link stating that the inspectors were denied access to any site. (and please, not from 10 years ago, ok? :) )

If, as I suspect, that you realize you're wrong on this, will it have any impact at all on your opinion?

Actually, a lot of those "state-owned" companies are more like joint ventures with the big oil companies. You'd have to check with each specific country on exactly how much goes between the corporations and the state-owned parts. Mexico is also lower than the United States as far as reserves goes. And even Canada? Canada has the second largest reserve in the world. Iraq will probably end up with more once the country is safe enough to survey though.

It isn't the President's job.

Slick Willy sure didn't do a damn thing.

Why don't you read up on what actually affects the cost of gas?

And don't start that BS like you did earlier about "funding for alternative energy". Even if Bush allocated BILLIONS to such "research" the big oil and industry would never have it.

I am also sorry for the children of my generation who will bear the burden of this man, the worst environmental president in history. I really wish he wasn't so busy spending on fighting, and he would actually invest some money into the research and development programs for renewable resources and efficient alternative fuel sources.

I could go on and on, but why bother when it will only fall onto deaf ears.....

...Great. Bush has nothing to do with oil prices, but ok. You can blame yourself and your fellow consumers for paying the high prices and demanding the commodity.

Edit: Oh, and companies don't set the oil prices, commodities traders do. Bitch at them, not the oil companies.

lol, I have no children it was hypothetical. So hostile, thanks for the advice on economics, but I have had enough education in that area already.

To all of you that keep saying I am stupid or a moron Fvck off.

Here is a little bit about the Bush Administration and the history of how he has managed oil prices.

According to a Senate Report, the Bush administration added forty million barrels of oil to the nation?s reserves in 2002. The purchases represented an extreme change in energy policy; they were made in a strong market, with a tight supply of oil, which increased demand, which in turn pushed up the gasoline prices to their highest levels in twelve years.

The Senate report stated that in a one-month period in mid 2002 the Bush administration purchases caused crude oil prices to soar, causing the cost of heating oil to rise by 13%, jet fuel by 10% and diesel fuel by 8%. The bottom line was the Bush policy cost citizens between $500 million and $1 billion.

When oil jumps from $20 a barrel to $30, the Senate report says, the costs to U.S. taxpayers are an additional $1 million per day. ?Over three months, the additional cost of filling the SPR approached $100 million,? which will ultimately be borne by U.S. taxpayers.

This is just one area where the wonderful Mr. Bush has failed the American People.

I find this amusing too, although the prices of have risen to such extreme levels currently, Mr Bush still finds time to travel all over. I don't mean travel for the good of the nation, no I mean travel to places like his nice little ranch in Texas to take a vacation and rest his feeble mind from all the stress he faces. Once he arrives on his nice little ranch he then drives around, with his stupid a$$ dog in his pickup truck, you know the truck I speak of it gets a whoping 12 miles a gallon. Who pays the bill for all this traveling....oh wait I do as an American.....I hope you are enjoying yourself Bush.

What the presidents of the fossil fuel era did or didn't do can't be used as an excuse for the Bush administrations mistakes, Pab. Isn't it at least possible that the feds unrelenting pressure and manipulation on the world?s foremost oil producing region at least partially responsible for pump prices? Iraq could have long since repaired and modernized their pumping facilities if we would have just left them the hell alone. In addition, as far as I'm concerned, the $2 billion a week we're spending on failed "nation building" would go a LONG way towards fuel cell technology, whether big oil liked it or not.

Now, just to make matters worse, Mr. Bush is saying we have to remain in Iraq to "stop bin Laden from gaining control of Iraqi oil." If was safe from that BEFORE we blundered in. But then again, why would reality matter to our malignant narcissist of a president?

Yep, that's why there are no more responses to try and justify Mr. Bush's actions.

The only justification for Bush's actions would be impeachment followed by criminal proceedings. And the charges just keep on mounting.

You're welcome. After liberals wanted gasoline prices to be over $5 a gallon in the 70's and they supported Al Gore who wanted gasoline to cost so much that Americans would be forced to stop driving cars and after they supported John Kerry who the year before he ran again tried to raise taxes on gasoline another fifty cents....

I'm glad we have had this opportunity to see liberals complain about $3 per gallon gasoline with a "conservative" president when the proclaim that the sky is the limit under a liberal president.

It shows the hypocrisy so clearly.

Thank you.

Indeed. Bush's antics make using the Oval Office as a brothel and lying under oath seem like chump change.

I think not, they just wanted to make it more expensive. A tax used to explore and/or finance alternative energies makes sense to me. There are too many people driving around in SUV's that don't really need them. They're just making a "statement".

That's fine, but their "statement" is hurting the rest of us. I think we should charge more for gas for the "gas guzzlers". If they still want to drive it, then fine.

Do you have any idea how many people are driving around with 4 wheel drive that never use it?

My pickup gets 16 :( I helped my daughter move last week and with 5 people in it and pulling a uhaul trailer it only got 13. I farm, so I have to have a 4 wheel drive pickup. but I only use it when I need it. I have an econ-car that gets 44 and another (with air) that gets 34.

People that say such things rarely actually check their mileage. They often end up just guessing (and being overly optimistic about it).

So, have you actually measured your mileage. How did you do it?
