Texas the worst state ever

The only people I've met that give a shit what college you love (in Texas) are people who went to A&M. Literally, nobody else gives a fuck.

And don't let TexasHiker make you think we are all like that. We (Texans) hate him as well.

That's not fair, I look down on anyone that went to Tech.

:hmm: So Texas made you gay?

It has that effect.

Somebody PM TexasHiker ... he's missing out on all the "fun"...

Seriously, there's good and bad people everywhere and TX is no different. They may have a higher proportion of chest beating "don't mess with TX" or "don't mess with me" types but they are hardly alone in that.

Actually the state that gets the most grief is California and I don't get the hate for Cali -- they have some of the hottest women on the planet, granted, some/many have been to the body shop a time or two but still. Plus, there's no place that can match Cali's weather...

At present I'm stuck, freezing my ass, in upstate NY and Cali is looking pretty good right now...

I want to talk a little bit about Texan pride, because I don't think a lot of people understand it. It is true that Texans have, what I would consider, a disproportionate amount of state pride than people from other states. But it's because Texas followed a path very similar to the original 13 American colonies.

You see, we weren't bought from the French. We weren't just randomly picked up on the side of the street after Spain dumped us. We fought for our independence. We took matters of injustice in to our own hands and came out victorious.

That struggle is drilled in to every kid that attends school in Texas. And, dammit, it is amazing.

texas went to hell after bush was elected governor. after suffering through perry I got out in 2007.

No, just no. Texans wanted slavery and to steal land from the Mexicans. That is what they fought for, greed, nothing else. There was no virtue in the creation of Texas.

Parts of Texas are ok...Austin and sections of Dallas mostly. The rest is generally no better or worse than other states in the region.

The Texan pride attitude that's sometimes prevalent, constant talk about god/jesus, and the often less than subtle competition on wealth probably grates on me personally though. It's not a place I generally find myself pining for. Also, everyone there seems to get fat in their late 20s.

Sam Houston was strongly anti slavery and opposed mistreatment of Indians (his second wife was Cherokee).

He certainly favored independence from Mexico, but I dunno if that's stealing land or not.

Other leaders of the republic weren't quite so humanitarian of course.

its a talibanic type state with their fundamentalism, barbaric "justice" system and corrupt government. the only good thing about it is the hot slutty chix

I kinda like texas for their justice system and generous application of the death penalty and liberal gun rights.

And they have some of the best beef bbq around (the south gets the nod for pork bbq) but texas knows how to slow cook brisket and how to grill steaks

Agree with most of that. I like Austin (outside of the summer heat). Wouldn't mind Dallas and maybe a few other places like San Antonio. West Texas is miserable, and would rather not live in Houston.

One of the reasons Texans are so full of pride is because we go through our own Texas History courses, so we know a bit about the history of our state and how it was formed.

Slavery was a small portion of the revolution - taxes, prohibition of immigration also played a part. As someone stated above, our first (technically second) president was opposed to slavery.

I must say I'm fairly pleased that the last page or so has been reasonably civil on a topic that could be poison and I'm particularly happy to see the defenders of TX go out of there way to disprove some of the negative comments. This is progress...
