Texas School Comes Under Fire After Students Wear Burqas In Class

Students wore burkas in a school in Texas as part of a geography class. Many parents are upset that the school is promoting Islam and

The online news site WND reported that a student had quoted a teacher as saying, "We are going to change your perception of Islam.

The students wore the burkas but weren't taught about the fact that many women are forced to wear it and face death/beating for refusal. As well many parents are angry the school is teaching a biased curriculum.

There was no mention of Christianity or any teachings during that class. As well the students were told to call terrorists "freedom fighters"

The teacher and everyone responsible for this must face discipline and need to be suspended or fired for allowing this to even happen. There is nothing wrong with promoting tolerance of other religions but this wasn't that at all by refusing to mention the underlying facts about the burka and calling terrorists "freedom fighters"

What do you think should happen to the teacher and everyone else involved with this?

The article states the teaching was part of the states standard curriculum.

The students that wore them were doing so voluntarily.

The teacher wanted students to realise that just because someone wears that clothing you do not need to fear them.

Acknowledging other cultures exist and teaching about them is normal history/geography.

If they wear black robes, can we wear white robes? Do they cancel each other out?

......
But that means you're lying to female students. The state is telling them not to fear men who promote extreme sexism and the women who defend it. Female students SHOULD fear those kinds of people. If I were a woman, the people who say shit like "all women are bitches" and "women should be completely covered head to toe" are the people I would expect to be woman beaters.

That's kind of a weird thing to say. So, if you were a woman, you would expect all Muslim men who expect women to where religion-appropriate clothing are wife-beaters?

I agree with this. The students were never taught about the death threats/beatings many women face for not wearing the burka. This is very significant.

Maybe the students should learn the truth about the burka?

More islamaphobe BS from our forum islamaphobe.

This is old news and the girls volunteered to wear the burkas/headscarves.

This 100% but the OP will gloss over this because it doesn't jive with his agenda. Just listen for the crickets.

Yes. The Quran explicitly says you are supposed to beat the fuck out of women. The ones who are extreme enough to follow the rules about dressing head to toe are the same ones that are extreme enough to be violent nutcases.

My opinion might be slanted. I grew up near a few Lebanese households and it was not unusual to hear screaming inside the houses. What was weird was that men were not expected to do anything. If someone was mowing the lawn or trimming the hedges, it was always a woman. I saw the little girl run the lawn mower several times, but I've never once seen the father do it. Lebanese people I knew said that was just part of the culture. At home, men do no work.

How is this part of the curriculum? I wrote in the article that it was voluntary.

Wrong. Lets look at the fact that many of these women are forced to wear it because of family. Why isn't this being taught?

How about teaching the truth about other cultures?

So you are ok with mandating that catholic schools must teach students about the predatory nature of many many priests then I presume?

How is this islamophobic? Where is the hatred? You would rather shut me down than talk about the issue

I know since it was in the article

This reminded me of something. I thought feminists were just angry lesbians until I heard about things like feet binding in Asia or women dying from corsets in Europe. It's important to hear how shitty things are in other countries or how bad they were in the past because it helps us understand why some people are so upset about certain things. Those ugly feminists have a good point - you won't hear many stories about men with deformed feat or broken ribs just for the sake of fashion, so it's understandable why someone would be so vocal against fashion and perceptions of beauty.

Anyway, Islam. Hiding the negative aspects of any culture is bad for our own society because that prevents us from learning their mistakes. Students SHOULD learn about Islam and Christianity, both good and bad parts. Getting the whole story is what education is all about.

I think you're probably making a pretty large leap between expecting women to wear religion-appropriate clothing to outright brutality.

While the number of men seriously capable of beating the shit out of the women they've married is horrifically high, I don't expect that all, or even most, Muslim men do.

TBH, that's kind of an unfair assumption. Beating people, especially when they are defenseless, is not something people can do easily.

I know I never could, and it's got nothing to do with my religion. I'm just a total softy.

Oh, and your men doing no work at home example means shit all with regard to wife beating.

Students should learn this but thats not happening. I cant believe people are seeing nothing wrong with this case.

Do they think its alright for students to call terrorists "freedom fighters"?

I'm going to quote myself on this because it relates to Christianity as well. Keep an eye out for very devout Christian households where the girls always wear dresses and are not allowed to wear pants or boy clothes. I'll bet $10 right now that those girls are either physically or emotionally abused.

I listen to a lot of podcasts at work, and I remember one of them featured a daughter of Fred Phelps, the Westboro Baptist asshole. Her account sounded every bit as repressive as Islam, and she used words like "escape" to describe her leaving the church. She had to sneak away with nothing because she would be physically abused if she said the wrong thing or talked about wanting to leave.

One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighters. You do realize the British considered the colonist terrorist due to the guerrilla style tactics they used during the Revolutionary War. The US History books consider these same colonists as heroes who fought for their rights/freedom (ie freedom fighters)

The terrorists like al-qaida are not freedom fighters, Do you agree or disagree?

The US was living under tyranny and those patriots fought for freedom. How are the terrorists targeting innocent people "freedom fighters"

I see your point. I guess that all Muslim women who wear the traditional garb belong to households where the male is a fanatic / extremist, and also capable of horrific brutality (coz all Muslims are made of that tough stuff!). I also guess that the women continually buck the religion, because, you know, they hate it and actually do "know better"(like "we" do), and so continually ask for a beating.

I dunno, man. Seems like your projecting a bit, and letting that guide your assumptions.

e: just to be clear, i'm not denying that it happens. i'm denying that it always happens, and I reject the idea that, if I were a western woman, I should expect all traditional Muslim men to be wife beaters, and that I should be afraid of them. To me, that's just exaggeration. It's fear mongering. It's an unfair generalization.

No, I don't believe that terrorist are freedom fighters. However, you go on and on based on hearsay because it fits your islamaphobe beliefs.

The local news (Fox 26) report never made the claim that the teacher told them to call terrorists freedom fighters, this is a fabrication by islamaphobes such as yourself.

I expect those who promote shackles to be slave holders.
