Texas School Comes Under Fire After Students Wear Burqas In Class

Yeah they did and I never said otherwise but they also *chose* not to tell the truth that women are forced to wear the burqa by their families. Why didn't they mention this?

Did your family force you to wear pants?

Why didn't the school tell the truth that American society forces men to wear pants?

Students wore burkas in a school in Texas as part of a geography class. Many parents are upset that the school is promoting Islam and

The students wore the burkas but weren't taught about the fact that many women are forced to wear it and face death/beating for refusal. As well many parents are angry the school is teaching a biased curriculum.

There was no mention of Christianity or any teachings during that class. As well the students were told to call terrorists "freedom fighters"

The teacher and everyone responsible for this must face discipline and need to be suspended or fired for allowing this to even happen. There is nothing wrong with promoting tolerance of other religions but this wasn't that at all by refusing to mention the underlying facts about the burka and calling terrorists "freedom fighters"

What do you think should happen to the teacher and everyone else involved with this?

I don't understand why these people are going nuts about this. This was voluntary, the kids did this on their own. It was to teach them about another culture and not to be afraid of that culture. This wasn't a lesson in the human rights issues, this was simply an exercise in learning about another culture.

People really are over reacting to this.

That's the problem with the schools there so PC they dont want to offend anyone. The worst part is the teachers actually believe this crap.

Finally why aren't they teaching the students about Christianity? Thats something important that they need to learn about. No Christianity but its alright to teach other religions

They do inadvertently teach students about christianity in America, because it is so woven into our society and our history it is almost unavoidable. However I disagree with you about the assumption that the teacher didn't tell the students about the women being forced to wear burqas. No where in the article does it say that. In addition, not all areas of the middle east force women to wear a full burqa.

I find the reactions of some here to be a bit of kneejerk.

Hmmm. I wonder if their pastors discuss the Christian Church's continued record of child rape and the bible's teachings of female subjugation.

No, of course not.

You're such a tool.

see above, dumbfuck

The girls in question *chose* to wear the burqas, so there's no issue at all here.

I do have a slight issue with teachers inventing politically correct term for terrorists, however. Call them like they are, not how you want them to sound.

Terrorist and freedom fighter are pretty much interchangeable depending on which side of a conflict you stand.

No they aren't. Terrorists kill innocent people unlike freedom fighters like the patriots that fought for our independence from a tyrannical central government

See my problem here is that I can't tell if you're trolling or not.

Normally I'd grin and congratulate a poster on the loltroll they had posted but as I've read your other posts I don't know if you really believe the above. 😕

Not trolling.

Ill give you an example. al-qaida killed innocent people and children = terrorists

The patriots who fought in the American Revolution didnt kill innocent people and children = freedom fighters

See the difference?

Do you have a specific definition of "innocent people and children"?

When you kill your own people to instill terror in them and make them fear you in order to control them, you are not a freedom fighter. I wonder what you would call a person who uses terror to make others do what they want?

Does it have to be your own guys? Cos that would mean that the 9/11 guys weren't terrorists then. 😕

Do you agree that while mentioning Catholics that they should also talk about how the Catholic church protects and therefore supports child molesters? Or how about the fact that the Christian God would rather kill babies and children than the person that was actually harming "his" people? Perhaps that is all they should say about Christians, would you be ok with that?

So the Catholic Church has been a terrorist organization for a large portion of its history?

They should be afraid of that culture. If they are taught the truth about it they'd know that, and they could reject it quickly.

How easily you are frightened..... Sorry but most of us don't shiver in fear at the thought of other cultures. This is especially true when you do the math about how much "danger" that other culture poses to us here in the US.

I refuse to call terrorists "freedom fighters" but nothing else seems out of line. If they mentioned Christianity then Jews would be pissed that they arent in there, then athiests.............the list goes on. If they are learning about Islam then they should be talking about......get ready.......ISLAM!

Wow, I am shocked that so many here seem to support the school forcing students to call people like the 9/11 terrorist freedom fighters, people who murdered thousands of innocent people. I hope none of you have family members who died on 9/11.

Forcing students to call people who hijacked planes and murdered thousands of innocents people "freedom fighters" isn't voluntary, and nor is it a valid lesson.

Weren't you going on a couple of weeks ago about the thousands of innocents the US was killing with it's drone strikes?
If you look at US history, the US has been involved in such things consistently, since it's start. There is actually less then 10 years the US has not been killing someone on the world stage.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_United_States_military_operations

Do you consider the US a terrorist state?

If you ever get your wish to ban the burka in the US, will you follow it up by doing away with the Amish or those nice Jewish ladies in NYC who can't leave their house without their 60's style wigs?
