So the short, and more accurate, answer to my question is --- nothing. There's nothing in the new EO that forbids you from doing anything you are currently doing. As a matter of fact it still strongly encourages people to wear face masks, so there's nothing for you to ignore.

The text in my post is directly from the Governor explaining his EO.

The effect of his EO most definitely does NOT encourage people to wear masks.

This EO puts more Texans and quite frankly the world at increased risk. There will be more infections, more deaths, and more chances for the virus to evolve a method to elude the current vaccine response.

There is no benefit to the citizenry as a whole other than to let the subset of vocal people who do not like masks endanger the rest of us.

There isn’t even a business benefit as those of us who felt comfortable enough conducting in person business while everyone wearing masks will stop this practice.

So you wanted to know what this EO prevents me from doing? It prevents me from patronizing local businesses who rescind their mask requirements. While the Texas state government may abrogate it’s responsibility, I won’t.

Yet stores have already said they will no longer require masks. Your response is extremely dishonest when it comes to the practical effect on public health of Abbott’s actions. Masks are to protect others not yourself actions that reduce mask wearing and put people closer together (opening restaurants and bars to full capacity) will cause more deaths.

Of course, not everyone will do that but there WILL be super spreader events because of Abbott's irresponsible EO. I am SO GLAD I do not live in Texas. I'm in CA. I'm in a high risk county but the positivity rate is barely over 2% right now. In Texas it's about 12.3%, and that's before Abbott's asinine edict has had time to change the statistics, and you better believe, rates are going to shoot up in Texas
 
Well, at least Abbott is being consistent in his blame shifting. A rise in Texas cases will now be blamed on immigrants from Mexico with just as much validity as his claim that their electrical system failures were due to the "green new deal". I just cannot fathom how someone can feel good about oneself while twisting the truth so tortuously. 😳
 
One of the most important parts of the mask mandate was the fact that it was a state MANDATE. Therefor some teenager working in a store or restaurant had THE LAW behind him when he had to tell some dumb fucks they need to obey the mandate or service would be refused. Having the ability to call police in this type of situation can make a big difference. Sure, the business can say that's it's "company policy", but that doesn't exactly have the same authority to it.

Can't wait for all those freedom loving conservatives to start "canceling" businesses that try to enforce their own company policies. The irony will be delicious.

Rumor has it that HEB (massive texas grocer) is not going to *require* masks in order to prevent adult temper tantrums.

I think they should "not require it," but also station a security dude next to every entrance, armed with mace, and a reminder that while mask compliance is not "required," those who personally choose not to wear the mask will be maced upon entry.

While a good bludgeoning is all that some of these freaking barbarians understand, I feel the use of a mace might be a bit harsh at this time.
