Maybe I’m behind the times but I thought that is true of all cars. Driving off the dealer lot knocks 20% or more off the value of a vehicle.
According to the article, new trucks depreciate 20% in the first year. The swastitruck dropped 35% because it's special, I suppose.

"As reported by Electreck, Tesla is offering just $65,400 in trade-in value—a depreciation of nearly 35% in a year. Pickup trucks typically depreciate around 20% in the first year."

According to the reporting, 35% is likely to be optimistic. The true offer is going to be even worse. 🤣

This guy just increased the truck's value by making it actually useful for work!

Honestly not that bad of an idea even for regular modern trucks, to get around the short bed limitations. Could stick some full 16' lengths of lumber up there.

So you spend a hundred grand on a truck, another couple thousand on custom racks, and you end up with a truck that has about half the utility of a $40k F150.

To be fair, 20k is a misnomer. For 20k you get a shell, doors and wheels. Probably most will be at 30k+

I wonder what he bolted it to? Isn’t everything between the frame and the panels plastic?

I actually saw a CT towing a travel trailer this afternoon! (and all the parts and pieces looked to be still attached!)

It's too bad things turned out the way they did:

1. Sky-high price
2. Not-as-cool final design tweaks
3. Negative political branding

Because there was so much opportunity to do some really unique things with the platform...

Interesting fix. 14k is not a bad price for that repair.

1. That's one of the few cars I've ever liked that color blue on
2. Invisible micro-beads in the glue, nice!
3. Very impressed with the documentation & that it's available to consumers!
4. VERY impressed at how repairable it is!
5. Surprised they let him film the official repair process!
6. Dang, my last Kia Soul was like $12k new lol
7. ima need some of that glue in a Gorilla tune from Home Depot LOL
8. I love that Youtube affords people to do stuff like rent a crane, haha!

Just got around to watching that repair video. Have to give kudos to Tesla that not only is it repairable, but that they were willing to even repair it in first place, knowing that this was 100% user abuse. Pretty sure most manufacturers won't even touch damaged frames.

That glue is pretty impressive too, the fact that it provides good adhesion on such a smooth surface.

The cost of the repair seems rather reasonable too, yeah, it's a lot of money but a similar repair on any other car would probably cost about that much too, and that's if they'd even be willing to do it.
