CNN just ran a bit on this. 25 law suits are being filed against the police department for their actions. Legals bills are expected to be in the tens of millions. Hopefully from now on the police there won't have the money to go brutalized kids.

Imagine if the students had planned to attack the police rather than "lock down." If they had planned their attack as well as they planned their "lock down" they could have killed them all.

Yeah, so lets just have the cops continue to do exactly what the hippies want them to do, so that they can continue to practice their methods and inspire other people to do the same. Hey, and why not, lets have some cops smack them in the jaw with their nightclubs and launch scorching gas canisters at them, their stupid and they deserve it, right? Because that won't get the media and public pissed at law enforcement and support hippy causes .
If police hadn't intervened you wouldn't even be hearing about this at all. You wouldn't have any hippies to be pissed at. This wouldn't be newsworthy, and nobody would give a flying fuck.

thats all well and good, and a good point. but what are the cops supposed to do when the uni calls them out to remove the campers? not respond? you said earlier that the cops dont have to, but on what basis do you claim that?
you cant place the blame on the cops, when theyre just doing their job. no one to blame but the hippies that were breaking the rules of the uni/law.

ummm, hope you like paying taxes bud.
that's where it comes from and that's why these suits will be dismissed.
I suggest copying the entire site (especially the comments) and quickly saving/sending to the proper authorities.Originally posted by: Rogue

Me neither and the best part is, they videotaped their own humiliating court loss. I see maybe, MAYBE the police department buying a few new tents, but I saw nothing there that was out of line or otherwise illegal, other than the fact that they were asked to leave by several LEOs and subsequently removed by force according to their own plan. Hell, I think I will e-mail the police department the website and these forums (for the quoted information) for evidence.

I think their reasons for protesting are bogus. I don't believe in their cause. But I believe they have a right to protest.

But they broke the law, and I suppose it's someone's job to do something about that. I think what bothers me is that in this case, the police are enforcing the law, not necessarily what's right. But again, I suppose that's their job.
Yes, you have it straight.let me get this straight ... students knew this was illegal ... did it anyways ... were removed in less violent way (think tear gas) and now are pissed off about it so they sue.
True. The law is not always what's right. In this case, however, I think it was.I think their reasons for protesting are bogus. I don't believe in their cause.
