CNN just ran a bit on this. 25 law suits are being filed against the police department for their actions. Legals bills are expected to be in the tens of millions. Hopefully from now on the police there won't have the money to go brutalized kids.

So you support senseless lawsuits against the police department - wasting their time and wasting a TON of taxpayer dollars. You're a real winner

I can't wait to see them get laughed out of court.

Imagine if the students had planned to attack the police rather than "lock down." If they had planned their attack as well as they planned their "lock down" they could have killed them all.

uhh.... wtf?

Me neither and the best part is, they videotaped their own humiliating court loss. I see maybe, MAYBE the police department buying a few new tents, but I saw nothing there that was out of line or otherwise illegal, other than the fact that they were asked to leave by several LEOs and subsequently removed by force according to their own plan. Hell, I think I will e-mail the police department the website and these forums (for the quoted information) for evidence.

Those kids are now millionaires!

Actually if I were the judge I'd be tempted to slap them all with the maximum penalty for what they were arrested for.

Oh, and then I'd publicly commend the officers for a job well done (for not beating the little brats to a pulp).

No, no they're not, trust me. They're going to waste a lot of money paying lawyers to plead their case and they're going to lose.

let me get this straight ... students knew this was illegal ... did it anyways ... were removed in less violent way (think tear gas) and now are pissed off about it so they sue.

God I love America!!!

I agree with Viper, if I were the judge I would slap all of the students with the max punishment.

again the message of "absolutely no camping". All day we were told that there would be no camping allowed,

NO CAmping,means
your an ass if you put up a tent, and Don't leave when told to leave.

Yeah, so lets just have the cops continue to do exactly what the hippies want them to do, so that they can continue to practice their methods and inspire other people to do the same. Hey, and why not, lets have some cops smack them in the jaw with their nightclubs and launch scorching gas canisters at them, their stupid and they deserve it, right? Because that won't get the media and public pissed at law enforcement and support hippy causes .

If police hadn't intervened you wouldn't even be hearing about this at all. You wouldn't have any hippies to be pissed at. This wouldn't be newsworthy, and nobody would give a flying fuck.

I'm pretty sure the population of hippies has been steadily decreasing for decades. They've been saving us the work by killing themselves off (figuratively speaking).

thats all well and good, and a good point. but what are the cops supposed to do when the uni calls them out to remove the campers? not respond? you said earlier that the cops dont have to, but on what basis do you claim that?

you cant place the blame on the cops, when theyre just doing their job. no one to blame but the hippies that were breaking the rules of the uni/law.

I'm NOT placing any blame on the cops. Just law enforcement bodies in general, perhaps just the protocol. And especially the people saying "man I sure wish they would've smacked them up and beat the crap out of them". For hating hippies so much, a lot of people here sure do a good job of letting them get under their skin.

I think their reasons for protesting are bogus. I don't believe in their cause. But I believe they have a right to protest. And I think the police hurt those kids when they didn't have to. But they broke the law, and I suppose it's someone's job to do something about that. I think what bothers me is that in this case, the police are enforcing the law, not necessarily what's right. But again, I suppose that's their job.

ummm, hope you like paying taxes bud.

that's where it comes from and that's why these suits will be dismissed.

I don't pay taxes to that state. But I am helping to pay for those kid's legal counsel through my annual donation to the ACLU.

I suggest copying the entire site (especially the comments) and quickly saving/sending to the proper authorities.

Hopefully it will bankrupt the hippies parents and they can't reproduce.

Not on private property. That's where every argument supporting these losers fails, sorry.

So you admit that they broke the law, and you admit that the police were just doing their job. So what's your beef? Do you want to change the laws so that people can do whatever they want on private property?

I have to note the hilarity of the poster of this video posting it on his site, as if he's giving us some rodney king video that we can all watch and be horried at, and yet the response of a lot of us is to laugh at the kids, thus cicumventing his silly video 🙂

Other than the one cop who shoved a camera out of the way--and we have no idea why he did this (ie. was it because he didn't want his actions being filmed, or simply because the camera man needed to get the hell out of the way)--the cops did nothing naughty that I can see, and let's not forget that they were definitely aware that they were being filmed, and yet continued to do it. Why? Because they knew they were acting within the law.

Yes, you have it straight.

True. The law is not always what's right. In this case, however, I think it was.
