What are we talking about here? High, mid or low end? Plasma, DLP, LCD or projection? If you are looking for high end, Costco won't have it. I'd highly recommend a reputable online dealer.

I am looked for something like a 60" DLP.

Plasma is just way too expensive and I rarely find the quality of the picture any more than a hair better than DLP. Plus, Plasma still has a worse track record than DLP when it comes to breaking. Not to mention you have to deal with pixels burning out quite a bit. This may not be true for the latest and greatest plasmas but they just aren't worth the price. My price range is about $2500 which include extended warranty and a few little things like HDMI cables.

Also, I fully plan to take advantage of black friday sales if I can.

DLP is on life support. Never ceases to amaze me how loyal its fanboys are though.

As for HDMI cables - Monoprice.com. If you're spending any more on cables, you're throwing money away. I just bought a 6' DVI to HDMI cable just for the hell of it, 'cause it was under $10. Wanted to try my main PC on my 42" 1080p LCD.

Abt Electronics

I have bought several items from Abt, including my big screen tv. I've been extremely happy with every single sale. Their prices are good, shipping is usually free, and as long as you don't live in Illinois, there are no taxes.

Like the poster, I am also in the market for a big screen TV. I have really only decided on size. A 55" to 61" screen is what I can utilize. I'm still not sure if I want plasma, DLP, LCD or a colored light bulb. My price range limit is $3500. What should I be getting? We have a Costco here. Also, why is it better to use an AMEX to pay for it at Costco?

Bought a 50 in Samsung plasma from Amazon 12/06. List price (no sale) was $600 cheaper at Amazon. Combine that with: no tax, free shipping, and FAR mounting bracket and I saved another 2-300 bucks.

Delivery service called to schedule delivery and took it out of the box and set it up on the stand. I mounted it on the wall later.

Very good experience and I think you should check the online retailers too.

Also monoprice for cables, no question about it.

i actually didnt' have a problem getting mine from BB. it was a black friday thing, though--and I wouldn't recommend it on any other day.

A lot of people here are favoring Costco, Amazon, and I saw a couple other names which sounded promising. Out of these popular vendors, who has stories where they purchased from them and they had to either return the TV or go through warranty repairs? Tell me about it.

For returning the sets, CostCo has an obvious advantage: brick and mortar locations and a no fees, no questions return policy for 3 months.

For repairs, I'm sure that CostCo again has the advantage, though I cannot vouch for that.
