Good thing there is only one day left

You're in for a rude shock, i'm afraid.

If that is true, only blind people will buy the card (and fanboys)

?

i d/led the pics ... eventually

from where the Source ?

the HW, the resolution, the settings. the drivers ... ?

need to know the *details* before saying HD sucks ... por favor

some of it is pretty pixelated ... and inconsistent with any good IQ

I dunno, Gstanfor posted them.

It's pretty blatant though. I wanna know what AA mode was being used for both cards.

Well, only Gstanfor knows the answer to that question.

They come from the r600 preview thread @ Beyond3D. They were supplied by a chap over @ rage3d forums who has already purchased an R600 (paid $489 for it)

I dont know about the 8800 pics, but the 2900 ones belong to the guy over @ Rage3d

thanks ...

sorry for ever doubting you ... :p

but it is *customary* to give the source of photos ... especially in a controversial and 'hot' topic as this one

:)

Jpeg compression makes them more than a bit limited, but thought I'd put them up anyway. NV drivers
nv drivers with HD2900XT

no wonder :p

seriously the compression IS crap ...

so it's a "user review"

Well, it certainly looks legit.

Since he says they're running 8xAA, I'm assuming he's using CSAA for the GTX and the new CFAA (Can someone please find out the real name of R600's new AA mode, I cant remember) for the XT.

It actually goes along with what I read on the AMD tech slide about the new AA mode. The slide claimed that R600'snew AA mode had better edge detection than Nvidia's CSAA. If you look at the Deep Freeze pic and focus on the hill in the background, AMD's AA seems to be a bit better than Nvidia's. What the slide didnt mention was that it would blur the whole scene to hell.

Well, the instant I saw that the new AA modes were sharing neighbouring pixel data I knew exactly what the outcome was going to be.

Oh my...the 2900XT looks noticably worse. It has a dithered look to it. AA may be better but overall IQ looks worse.

No, they do not give it

tha fan is quite sillent, but it will roarrr when launch 3D apps
FYI the card is HOT ... *even I do not know GTXs temp*

Oh dear, just like I predicted, this really is ATi's nv30.

Late, hot, loud, underperforming, bad IQ.

I don't doubt it would be hot. I've touched both a Geforce 8800GTX and the amount of heat it produces just scares me. I will not put a Geforce 8800GTX in my PC. However the Geforce 8800GTS is just fine. That is why I purchased the Geforce 8800GTS and I am glad I did. Even with the lower clock speeds, my office has gotten very hot since replacing my older Geforce 7800GTX with this Geforce 8800GTS.

you *always* predict the *same thing* for EVERY ATi launch

odds are ... one day you may be right :Q

i want to see the "real pictures" ... from reputable sites
- at least like theInq
:D

not some fanboy user posting home pics with some pretty lossy JPEGs

*after that* - if the IQ is as AWFUL as those pictures suggest ... THEN ... i may well say the odds have caught up with you ... that one of your predictions actually came true

until then ... :p

I sure hope you were being sarcastic. :Q

Are there any new games coming out this year (or next) that will make people buy new hardware just to play it? It seems like it has been a while since there was a game which when released made people go out and buy new PC hardware. I am not too excited about Crysis. When is the next Unreal Tournament coming out?

Let's see

R600 JPEGs are compressed at the low end of medium quality setting
G80 JPEGs are compressed at the high end of high quality setting

And yet there is this anomaly

R600 - Canyon Flight 79596 unique colors
G80 -- Canyon Flight 66837 unique colors

R600 - Deep Freeze 61681 unique colors
G80 -- Deep Freeze 51371 unique colors

Less compression on the G80 pics and yet fewer unique colors ... hmmm something ain't right here. Where did that color data go?

Simple fact is,nvidia has had ATi on the backfoot launchwise since nv40 (with possibly the exception of R580, but even there ATi needed a chip twice the size of G71 to compete effectively).

This round is likely to be the coupe de grace.

Inq, reputable site?!? :D :D :D :D

(ChrisRay)I think people may end up finding that the blur is not just a compression thing.

of course ...

theInq IS "reputable" ... compared with a home user on a Rage thread
[i didn't say "very reputable"]

this year ... just begins the flood of DX10 games ... i am looking forward to Alan Wake ... i will upgrade when i *have to*

well.. I also just found out the huge difference in file sizes between the screenshots. (like by 3 folds) I don't know much about JPEG compression so can't comment on what exactly is really going on there, but the comparison in such a form can't be considered valid.

Edit: the dragon shots are different by like 6 folds in size.

The compression does put a little damper on the images, but I respect what Chris Ray says and he thinks it's not a compression issue, therefore I wont throw the comparison out yet.

Gstanfor also mentioned AMD's new AA modes are sharing neighboring pixel data, which makes sense why the image is blurred.

6x CFAA
8x CFAA
Next Gen AA
CFAA

I've posted all the above previously, reposting for those who didn't see it before.

One has to wonder what ATi meant by next gen anti aliasing though - perhaps R600 is really a next gen flipper (nintendo GPU) chip which ATi turned into R600 'cause its all that would work quickly enough to save the company?
