I don't suppose this Folding@Home thing is all that unstable, is it? I installed this on my server, a P3 ~750 (don't remember exactly). It ran just fine so I went to bed. Got up this morning and the computer was OFF. There have been ZERO instability issues since the install (Win2k). When I turned on the computer, I got a crapload of video issues. The first screen that shows the video card information is all fvcked up. Virtical red and black lines alternate across the screen with pink Ms all over the place. Then when it posts and is counting up the ram, the red lines change to thin gray lines and the Ms go away. The display gets more and more fvcked up as it sits. Windows does not even load, for all I know. If I keep hitting the reset button, I might get a stable boot once in every ten or fifteen attempts. However, after being up for a few minutes, the screen suddenly gets all fvcked up again and it crashes.

Because it starts fvcked up on the very first screen showing the vidcard's stats, methinks it's a dying videocard. But the card is brand new! Granted it's a GF2MX400, but I'm not playing any games on it at all - it's not being pushed to it's limits at all. And the fact that it boots properly at random confuses me.

WTF is going on?

Try reseating the video card, or swapping it out for a spare. I've never had anything like that happen to me, but it sounds like your system may not have been up to running 24\7 at full load.

It wasn't running at full load, though. I set the cpu usage for 80%. Granted it's not a powerhouse computer, but it still should have been able to handle it. I don't have another card to test it with. I was going to put that in the original post, but I forgot :p

Read the OP, wait I'll quote the first sentence for you
OK, we know you've been getting barraged with threads aimed at recruiting members for other DC projects, and we didn't want it to come to this, but we now need to annoy you for a while, so please bear with us
FFMCobalt, can you reseat the card? Was the computer Prime95 stable? How are the CPU\case temps?

Well, now it won't boot at all. I.E. I can't get a stable boot at all from it, so I can't get into the bios. I never tried Prime95. I haven't used that proggy in years. What would reseating the card have to do with it?

If it was a video problem, then I was thinking the video card may have dislodged from the AGP slot.

I hope you appreciate that the computer in my bedroom (p4 3ghz) is now staying at a steady 63C, w/ a casetemp of 43C. And it is soon to be SUMMER in texas. The air condition bill because of the comp will killlxor me.

Ouch! What kind of cooling do you have on that thing?
If you're using the command line you can redo the setup and set it to a lower CPU utilization if you want.

I'm a tad saddend by the fact there is no *BSD client available (thankfully fbsd can simulate linux)
and was shocked to find the linux binary to be labeled .exe ....

With that all said, I'm currently trying to make the linux client running :)
I'll post back when its running, or when I run into trouble with the client.

Good deal! And thanks for your support..... :)
It is sad that there is no real support for those `other` operating systems. Especially for the Mac. They could have thousands more crunchers if they supported Mac OS 9.......

more more more guys!

and to those that cry about this thread formerly being stickied in OT. Who cares? It's OT; hence almost anything can be posted there and a ton of crap is in my opinion. Either way this thread is no longer stickied so it will just have to be bumped :)

keep up the good work guys!
