This is why pot should be illegal.
Yeah how about no?
Now if you advocated for a 25 year old limit on marijuana, I could probably stand by that. With sufficient argument I could stand by 18 and/or 21 year old limits as well
...because pot being illegal kept teenagers from smoking weed? IIRC, it was commonly found that teenagers would have an easier time getting marijuana than alcohol.
Yeah this whole prohibition thing is laughable. Anyone who truly wants it can basically get it easily, at any age. It's more easily portable too. There's only so much room in a book bag for bottles and cans, it's basically one order lol. Weed (or any drug other than alcohol for that matter) can be carried in large quantities to hit customer.
On the topic of age and brain maturity, ctbaars expresses an important concern. Which is why I wouldn't totally be against a 25 year old age limit/requirement, because there have been studies demonstrating the actual effect of heavy use as a teenager linked to developmental issues in the prefrontal cortex. Now such issues are not a product wholly of cannabis origin only, at least I don't presume that to be the case, and much research is ongoing or in development stages.
But there are so many variables to consider, some not being of a medical origin: there is diet to be considered, especially considering seafood is the leading source of the crucial omega 3s that we otherwise won't find elsewhere often; natural behavioral tendencies; and a question of which begets which, an issue with brain development and neurotransmitter activity that causes one to seek out addicting behaviors? Or is it that the addictive behaviors cause decision making to spiral out of whack? A non-medical consideration is environment, as through different toxins to include lead, it's observed that there are significant mental health concerns in the offspring of those exposed -- of which there were plenty thanks to leaded gasoline engine exhaust which resulted in lead contaminating the soil and ground for a generation. However environmental toxins still ultimately tend to lead to the route where mental health issues leads the sufferer to drugs which then may lead to further behavioral issues.
You have to be 25 to rent a car -- there's obviously research behind that, and I'll bet much of that research overlaps with behaviors originating in a still-maturing brain.
