This is very true. Your r value can be anywhere from +1 to -1. +1 being perfect positive correlation and -1 being perfect negative correlation. 0 is no correlation whatsoever. His value for the correlation between tea party affiliation and scientific knowledge is 0.05. That is basically nonexistent.

Studies have shown - frequently - that in general, the better your education, the liberal your thinking tends to be. Hence, the screaming from the rabid-crazy right fringe some while back about colleges being liberal brain washing institutions, and wanting to limit higher education and so on.

I'm a man. I know how men think. Men who would join the Tea Party are in denial about why they're successful. It's a man thing, to think they've done it all themselves, and therefore anyone who doesn't is a "free loader".

But for most people, it's not true. We benefit from being part of a society, and we should stop attacking an important aspect of that society, government, and instead cherish and nurture it.
