i dont think intellect ability actually comes into play.....

as in.....

if you could measure a brain's performance categorically, speed, memory, robustness.........at any given task...... i'd say you'd see a very common curve, party lines......not one bit out of proportion...

however. the cultural intelligence......... is so very very far skewed..... most tea partiers are well to do, caucasion males, in the autumn's of there lives......... (and the wives of these men, or the doted over sons and daughters...

it's just not realistic in what the world has EVOLVED into.

the liberals are more multi-cultural, roots in euro/hispanic countries, or african american...

hate to say it, but that's the cultural divide...

tea party way of life is not "wrong" it's just not modern.

the tea party is based on small government, real capitolism and subtle isolationism (you shouldn't be thinking outside of your country borders unless that is your job, and you should not like it because it's not 'Murica) ..........see, isolationalism

problem is, isolationism isn't possible anymore, it's like a dog who's been caged it's whole life and is content, vs. the stray you took in, who freaks right out when you crate it.....

that's modern day tea party vs progressive (luckily people are putting it together recently and even the repub party is distancing itself from it now)

you can't keep thinking soverein nation, we are moving to a world government scenario, you want to be the old guy on the yard yelling at the kids for stepping on your grass? or the cool kids down the street smoking on grass and starting the next microsoft in there garage?

Most tea partiers I know are engineers. Most liberals I know are on welfare.

Most libs I know are scientists and engineers.
The PeaTardiers are shit-kicking conspiracy nuts who hoard ammo and put idiotic bumper stickers on their trucks. But hey.. its all about the bubble we live in.

I think its more fair to say that the Tea Party is anti -business, as their policies are demonstratively damaging to business and the economy.

More of a mixed bag when it comes to the anti science, anti diversity stuff.

This. I don't even know many that are "Holy Rollers". It's funny to see these people that have never met or talked to any of them spew suck hate against them. I think the most telling part of the story is that the professor had such a bad opinion of this group yet had never met one. Where did he get that opinion from? I say a completely slanted media.

Where did the Prof get his opinion of the Teahad?

He read this forum & listened to their darlings through the media.

And, let's face it, having scientific knowledge doesn't mean you know how to run a country for the benefit of the People. Both the Nazis & the Soviets were rich in scientific knowledge.

I'm not concerned with anecdotal evidence since I happen to know stupid and smart people of every persuasion. Engineer in the tea party? That doesn't mean anything.

I'm concerned with what they actually say and do. In that case the Tea Party is batshit crazy.

I would imagine alot of liberals know about as much of science as news articles tell them about science. In that they don't actually know anything about science but if an article mentions a scholarly source ka-ching into the permanent memory banks it goes as 100% fact.
Oh, really?

Studies have shown - frequently - that in general, the better your education, the liberal your thinking tends to be. Hence, the screaming from the rabid-crazy right fringe some while back about colleges being liberal brain washing institutions, and wanting to limit higher education and so on.

This is - naturally - because dogma fits naturally with the conservative mind-set, and is the polar opposite of enlightenment.

I guess Rep. Paul Brown, Tea Party member who sits on the science committee called evolution "lies from the pit of hell" is pro-science

Good point. However I now must hang my head in shame as I am from Georgia. At least he's not my district, unfortunately Tom Price is my district's representative. So not much better.

The problem with the Tea Party is that the voters aren't stupid, they're crazy. And as a result their craziness has them supporting elected officials who are both crazy AND stupid beyond what a human being should be capable of becoming.

Then why is that the most vocal, the most omni-present at press events, the ones clamoring for a media spotlight tend to be the most mentally unbalanced, and intellectually challenged?
I speak of palin, bachmann, cruz, brown, etc. And of course the fucktards waving confederate flags around thinking it's patriotic to do so.

Those idiots are the face of the tea party. Not these savants you claim to be your leaders.

Because news stations are trying to sell news? Have you ever actually talked to an individual who is or claims to be a member of the Tea Party? They are rather plain and ordinary and aren't going to help news outlets with a headline.

You've displayed a huge amount of confirmation bias, as does most of the media, with regards to people who make up the Tea Party.

Got it. It's the media's fault that the tea party is portrayed as a bunch of educationally challenged blowhards. It's not those members fault they're the loudest of the bunch
It's the media.
Luckily, the only interaction I've had with tea party members has been solely through this wonderful forum, where all the discussions are level headed and each side is open to new ideas and not cemented into their own ideology.

The problem with the Tea Party is not that they are unintelligent or poorly educated. Tea Party members actually tend to be better educated than the population as a whole.

Their problem is a willful denial of reality based on political considerations, not some general lack of knowledge. It's more religious in nature. The denial of evolution, the denial of climate change, etc doesn't come from them not being exposed to the science behind those two concepts, they just don't care what the science says.

If I used Al Gore, Hillary Clinton, Barrack Obama, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid as the example of the Democrat party then I would have to believe that all democrats are complete fucking morons. I don't believe that all democrats are complete fucking morons. I know several personally and am even related to a few. I am smarter than to use the viewpoints and talking points of a few ("the loudest of the bunch") to label an entire party as complete fucking morons.

Guess you aren't that smart.

I question the finding of any study like that. When someone starts out with a specific goal in mind they will find a way to get the results they want, liberal or conservative.

I'd love to see some of the crazy and stupid things they have said, then we can compare them to the stupid and crazy things the tea party spokes people have said.

I'd love to argue with a box of rocks but I've got better things to do.

I never claimed to be smart, but nice try. Keep jabbing away. I would gladly see an intellect contest between any of the names you listed vs any of the tea party darlings.

My issues are they use fundamental religious ideology as the be-all and end-all to scientific/biological/environmental questions or issues. And I have yet to see a tea party member discredit one of the bachmann's rantings or ted cruz
Ultimately, Cruz said that his effort to defund Obamacare, which died in the Senate Wednesday night, was not a failure.

"It was an incredible victory," Cruz said.

They are delusional, beyond delusional actually. But keep defending them, stand by them. Agree with their archaic, and in some cases bigoted ideologies.

Why do you always laugh? Many teapartiers are arguably stupid and provably anti-science. Not all of them, sure, but a substantial number are, particularly of the fundamentalist christian contingency (which happens to be a core constituent of the movement itself.) As a demonstration, just raise the issue of evolution with them and measure the response.

I 100% support the theory of evolution. Probably due to my non-religious California upbringing. So while I in no way invalidate your rule, do note that there are exceptions.

Quit acting all butthurt because I pointed out the idiocy of your position. Trying to assign characteristics to an entire group of people because of a those of a few is utterly stupid.

We all know you were just trying to post your disdain for the Tea Party so why play games with your little ruse with your questions?

And I'm not defending anyone. Simply answering your insincere questions regarding the Tea Party. I have said nothing in defense of the Tea Party. Only stated that halfway intelligent people don't label the many based on observations of the few. That and the media are guilty of confirmation bias.

But hey, its easier for you to lump me in with the Tea Party so you can easily disagree with me. Especially when you then parrot crap about religious and bigoted ideology of the Tea Party. Its pretty clear that you've never actually talked with an individual that is a member of the Tea Party (or if you have, you've found the craziest of the bunch) and rely on the media to feed you your opinions. Whatever makes your simple mind happy I guess. Its obvious that you aren't claiming to be intelligent. That much is certain.

Ok Biff, you're right. Carry on.

Didn't know this was about right and wrong. You asked a question. You apparently didn't like the answer I gave.

Some advice, try asking better questions that will give you the answer you want next time. Otherwise, just come out and make your point next time. My guess is you'll be much happier in the future.
