I always laugh when I here the ideologues on this site call the TEA Party people anti science and stupid. Well, one liberal professor did a study and found that TEA Party people are actually smarter than non-TEA Party people in terms of science, that would include you libs and moderates by the way.

I bet most of you haters fall into the same category as the prof, you don't know any TEA Party people and trash them purely due to your ideology.

Why do you always laugh? Many teapartiers are arguably stupid and provably anti-science. Not all of them, sure, but a substantial number are, particularly of the fundamentalist christian contingency (which happens to be a core constituent of the movement itself.) As a demonstration, just raise the issue of evolution with them and measure the response.

I guess Rep. Paul Brown, Tea Party member who sits on the science committee called evolution "lies from the pit of hell" is pro-science

Tea Party Smarter than you think

That's probably not a hard measure to beat since most on the board probably have a very low opinion. I'm not against the general ideas they espouse but their attempt to implement it is insane.

Most tea partiers I know are engineers. Most liberals I know are on welfare.

People aren't statistics, you have to judge them based on who they and what they know. Your experience's do not make up reality.

Next time I collect data, too, I won't be surprised at all if the correlations between science comprehension and political ideology or identification with the Tea Party movement disappear or flip their signs. These effects are trivially small, & if I sample 2000+ people it's pretty likely any discrepancy I see will be "statistically significant"--which has precious little to do with "practically significant."

There are too many morons here who attack the Tea Party. The Tea Party are smart people and understand the problems the US if facing. But they must get rid of these idiotic social conservatives.

This. I don't even know many that are "Holy Rollers". It's funny to see these people that have never met or talked to any of them spew suck hate against them. I think the most telling part of the story is that the professor had such a bad opinion of this group yet had never met one. Where did he get that opinion from? I say a completely slanted media.

Yeh, some engineers fall into the idiot-savant category, no doubt.

And you probably don't actually "know" any welfare recipients, but rather glean your impressions from Faux News.

How are their history scores?

I'm curious how they did in macroeconomics as well. Considering all of those talking heads who were saying that defaulting on the national debt isn't a big deal, I'm betting not very good.

I would imagine alot of liberals know about as much of science as news articles tell them about science. In that they don't actually know anything about science but if an article mentions a scholarly source ka-ching into the permanent memory banks it goes as 100% fact.

That definitely fits with most of the Liberal-types I know. Of course, they're 100% for inclusion and acceptance, as long as it's on their terms. Complete fucking hypocrites.

I once saw a tea party congressman who was a doctor and he said he didn't believe the earth was billions of years old and instead thought it was about 6000.

I've also seen another tea party congressman who was an engineer who said that if a woneb is raped that her body has a way to shut down the pregnancy process.

So...

It's funny because I thought it was liberals who were the elitest snobs but you wouldn't know it from these posts.
