Marlboro Ultra Lights here. Maybe like 5 or 6 (cigerettes, not packs) a day? I'm considering quitting though, maybe starting a semi-health kick. I turn 27 soon and only now realizing that I'm not getting any younger. Plus being married and thinking of the future, I think I don't want to be a smoker and miss out on any of the things we have planned.

I think for me, smoking is nostalgia. Some of the best times I've had are when I've been smoking. In college with friends on a balcony while drinking. Parties. Bars. Clubs. Maybe its just the alcohol huh? Too bad I cut that out of my life a couple years ago.

I pay about 2.40 for a pack and if you smoke its not for taste, its because you are addicted and need a fix, so why pay more for a brand name? USA Gold taste close enough to my old marlboro brand and I get the same effect. We habitual/addicted smokers are no worse than crackheads. :)

Why would you smile after associating yourself with crackheads?

What kind of clove cigarettes are you smoking that don't have any nicotine ? All of the cloves that I've smoked seemed to be stronger / have more nicotine than your average cigarette.

Its an expensive, filthy habit that I wish I never would've acquired...but dammit, I got used to smoking when I'm drinking or working on the computer; and since thats how I get paid (historical/military research & writing, plus alot of Photoshop and Illustrator graphic design stuff), it just became part of my daily life.

My wife hates it, but the worst part is my daughter is now old enough to ask questions, and I can't bear the thought of dying from my own stupidity before she's grown...its the wierdest thing, and I know non-smokers can't understand it, but I love and hate it at the same time. I MUST quit, but its such a part of my life (habit and stress relief) that I keep putting it off...

I used to smoke Marlboro Reds and enjoyed it to some extent, I quit a while ago. Smoking IS NOT a stress reliever. You may think it is but smoking adds a great deal of stress to your life. Givenyour comments it sounds very stressful for you. If you can get past needing to smoke to feel OK, life becomes much more stress free.

I got hypnotized, pretty easy way to give up. Sure I took time to adjust and not think about it anymore but after a month or so I would go all day without even thinking about a cigarette, never mind wanting one. The session only cost me $100.

Buck Armstrong, Have you tried or thought about the gum or the patch or the Zyban prescription to help you quit?

I just quit 2 weeks ago, using the gum, and it's really taken the edge off. I have tried several times before and failed, usually within 1 week.

That being said, nobody can make you quit, you've got to decide when to do that on your own. But if/when you make the decision, don't scoff at the products that might help you.

marlboro light -> camel filterless -> marlboro red -> parliament light 100's

Though I did get about 3 different types of quitting smoking aids from family this year, could be telling me something.

So can we not talk about cars because there are people under 16 here? Can't discuss voting because it's illegal for minors also? How about discussing beer preferences? Where do we draw the line?

Right now, I am smoking Marlboro Ultra Lights.
BECAUSE THEY ARE THE ONLY ONES MY EMPHYSEMA RIDDEN LUNGS CAN HANDLE!

I'm not dead yet, but as sure as I'm sitting here, cigarettes will kill me.

In all seriousness, if you smoke, stop now. I too, once thought I was invincible. Been smoking for over 36 years. Came down with Pneumonia last year, haven't had a decent breath since.
I can tell you first hand, this ain't no fun!

I rarely smoke, but when I do I like Kamel Red Lights (I think that's how it is spelled, they come in that funky box). I say the lights cause I don't feel as guilty smoking them vs when i smoke the Kamel Reds which makes my lungs hurt (or at least think they are hurting).

I like Djarum Black (I think Black) Cloves are.. mmm...

I was told Camel Exotic Blends aren't sold anymore. They were a limited edition run, I have yet to find a place that still has any in stock.

Not to poison your thread but I figure a bunch of smokers could give me the best answer to this:

What are the best techniques to quit smoking that someone you know has used successfully?

My father bought nicoderm (sp?) but he fell off it and that was 2-3 years ago. I want to try and get him trying something else if possible. His health is important to me and if he wants to see grandkids I think it would be important to him, too. BTW he has been smoking for something in the range of 30 to 35 years.

For those of you who think smoking "Light" cigs are safer, guess again. Its just as bad if not worse as you end up smoking more and there are probably 100s if not 1000s more chemicals in a light cig than in a full-flavor cig. Put bluntly, all cigs are bad. I am 40 and have been smoking 1 pack every three days for over 25 years. While a pack lasts me 3 days, its just as harmful as if I smoke 1 pack a day. Either way it will catch up with you. Why do I smoke then if its so bad? Because cigs are more addicting and harder to quit than any drug on earth. It is easier to kick a heroin addiction than a cig addiction. Oh, and cigars, even though you dont (or shouldnt) inhale the smoke, causes just as much throat cancer as cigs do, so dont be fooled. Also, chewing tobacco cause a high rate of throat cancer as well. Its not the nicotine that kills ya, its the tar and other carcinogens. So whether its a light cig, a cigar, chewing tobacco or that tobacco flakey crap like skoals, its gonna get ya in one way or another. Even if it doesnt outright kill you, your quality of life would be better without it. I have tried EVERYTHING to quit. Patches, pills, sprays, gums, accupuncture. Nothing stopped me. I once had bronchitis so bad I was coughing up chunks of blood and after I saw my doc and got antibiotics I went outside a lit up. Cigs are that addicting. i have my lungs x-rayed every year and my doc wants to beat the living crap out of me everytime I tell him I still smoke. The only way I can quit is if I am locked in a room for a year. God bless those of you who have quit.

It is possibly just to wind down the quantity? For example, if you smoke 8 cigs a day, try lighting up one less each month. I think a gradual decrease might be doable? Could take you a full year, but then you'd be done.

For some reason I was under the impression that I read it on Wikipedia. But looking at it again, it doesn't say it anywhere. Hmmmm....
