Did a search...saw no smoker thread, so if it's been done, I apologize.

Figured I'd start a thread for smokers to recommend a brand, or talk about what they like and why.

For relaxing smoking, and casual enjoyment smoking I like a good Djarum Black.

For general stress relieving smoking, Camel Turkish Royals...though they were out tonight and I picked up some Ninety-Nines..they seem pretty good...I guess it's just their ultra long cig?

Anyhow, not sure if many people smoke around A&T.

I smoke very casually though, one before classes, one after work, sometimes one in the middle.

I only smoke in the car / outside though, care too much about my hardware to smoke around it! =)

I rarely smoke, MAYBE one cigarette per month, but if I do, I like John Player Special. Usuauly though I'd rather have a Cigar.

I was never one for smoking Cigar's....I never really got what made them so different from a cigarette, save for the fact you don't inhale.

I used to like a certain brand of cigar, they came 3 to a package... Backwoods? I think that's it. Gave up a 2 pack a day habit 4 years ago though; I wasn't able to use nicotine in moderation so it was best I stopped entirely.

Admirable, I'll quit if my habit accelerates to a very unhealthy state..but right now just enjoying it.

Pepsi: Cohiba is a cuban brand eh? Sounds interesting..might have to try the Cohiba Cig's.

MMMM Djarum Blacks are lovely. Taste so good.

I'm a pack a day smoker, been smoking for 7 years.

I smoke Marlboro Ultra Lights exclusively, call me boring, but I just like to smoke one brand. Sometimes I'll buy a pack of KooLs for a change but thats like once a month.

When I'm in Canada, I got for Belmont Milds. They have a charcoal filter inside that makes the cigarette smoother than butter.

Also, I'd recommend Camel Exotic Blends if you want something new to try. Orange is my favorite flavor. If you haven't tried em, buy a pack @ your local 7-11! Expensive but well worth the money.

Djarum Blacks are an amazing cigarette.

Clove is...electrifying!

There is this one little gas station in my area that sells all kinds of imported cigarettes behind the counter, not much call for them but they always have what you need in. I go to Food Lion and they didn't even have Turkish Royals....Shows where Small Business really excels.

I smoke. I started as a stupid teenager with Camels, then as I aged and got married, Camel Lights, Camel Ultra-Lights, and now Marlboro Ultra-Lights. Its an expensive, filthy habit that I wish I never would've acquired...but dammit, I got used to smoking when I'm drinking or working on the computer; and since thats how I get paid (historical/military research & writing, plus alot of Photoshop and Illustrator graphic design stuff), it just became part of my daily life.

My wife hates it, but the worst part is my daughter is now old enough to ask questions, and I can't bear the thought of dying from my own stupidity before she's grown...its the wierdest thing, and I know non-smokers can't understand it, but I love and hate it at the same time. I MUST quit, but its such a part of my life (habit and stress relief) that I keep putting it off...

Even as a former smoker I can't understand it. I smoked for about 3 years as a teenager, daily about a pack a day. All of my friends smoked. Then for some reason, even while I was still hanging around a bunch of smokers, I quit. One day I was smoking by myself and literally got pissed off at the cigarette and decided not to be locked down to it anymore. Before that moment I hadn't the slightest idea of quitting. Now, 2 years later, I can't understand why I started or how it is so hard for other people to quit. I think I just got lucky in having that revelation, and I'm the kind of person that if I went through that first week of hell well then I'm not going to have done it for nothing.

I think my experience is lost on older smokers because its hard for me to relate to having done it more than 3 years.. but the fact is you need to put it down one day and just never smoke another one again. Sounds simple and it is.. the only thing blocking you is chemical reactions in your brain that make you stressed out temporarily.

Dude I know exactly how you feel. I'm so used to having a smoke break when I study that I NEED it in order for me to concentrate. Same with Smoking after meals, when I wake up, and when I get in my car, I NEED that cigarette. Yet at the same Time My lungs feel like ******, Everyone tells me how bad I stink (of cigarette smoke), and I just wish I could quit. It really is a love-hate relationship.

And I don't mean to say it was easy for me. It was very hard. It is just the way you look at it. I saw my cravings as an illness, and just like any illness of that magnitude it would go away with time. Sure there is the quick fix of smoking a cigarette but that is simply another, permanent illness.

You just have to never smoke a cigarette again. Make that committment. Tell yourself that no matter what excuses you make later, you will never smoke again. I would convince myself that smoking was the answer, and be 100% convinced to light up, but then I'd just fall back on "Remember you said you wouldn't smoke no matter what excuses you thought up."

There are a lot of helpful websites out there that got me into this mindset. Cold turkey is the only way to go. Anything else is just prolonging the process.

When I was young and never thought about my own mortality or even had an external reason to live longer, I just didn't care. I knew I could stop whenever I wanted, and I even quit for about a year when I was 18...but then one day I woke up, and it had been 15 years, and now I'm a pathetic addict, even though I consider myself intelligent, strong-willed, and successful in every other aspect of life.

Its fvcking sick, and all I can say is: if you're not a suicidal whorebag weakling already, PLEASE don't start. Unlike every other thing society would have you avoid (booze, drugs, sex, etc.), this really IS NOT worth it.

You're not getting any younger and your daughter has no pause button.

Quitting gets easier every single day you don't have one. Eventually you won't be able to believe you were ever imprisoned by those stupid fscking coffin nails.

I just quit, but my brand was Marlboro Lights. I know there was no advantage to smoking lights, but I thought they tasted better. Taste of a cigarette is a subjective thing though. Here in Texas they just passed a $1.00/pack tax so I quit.

My friends in the Noreaster states ask me to buy them for them, cause it's like 20-24 dollars a carton here, and about 60 up there.

edit - Of course I'm in Virginia.

You hit the nail on the head. I need it to function in my daily life, but its a big turn-off for the people I care about, and now that I'm a father, even myself. And by the way, the instances you mention are definitely some of the worst for me...studying (for work, not school), after meals, first thing in the morning, and when I'm driving, its so damn satisfying. I also can't imagine trying to drink without it.

Maybe we should form a "support group"... ;)

Yep, 4 years ago cartons were running me $55+. When I went to school in Buffalo we went out to get them tax free at a Native American reservation for 10 or 15 bucks but there's none around NYC now, at least within feasible driving distance. Just one more reason to quit. That's a goddamn car payment.

Marlboro Mild 100's. Haven't had a cigarette for 7 days and counting...

Seompoerna Extra's were awesome--too bought Djarum <sp> bought them out. :(
