Ok so I will tell one. I used to work at OMX (Got Fired of course)

We has some of the most retarded customers but the cashiers were even dumber.

Story:
A man and a woman walk in and ask where the packing materials are. After being directed to the area they pickup two carts full of bubble wrap.
This was when the large rolls of bubble wrap came in boxes.

They proceed to look at some furniture, decide against it, and go check out.
About an hour later some guy wants a printer so my coworker goes to the overhead stock to get one. Inventory says 8. None are there.
Another hour or so goes buy and some is looking at a desk and finds a couple of things stuffed with bubble wrap.

So those people payed $60 and got about 10 All-In-One printers. No cameras of course so they got away scott free.

More to follow

I was shopping in a Circuit City some years back. They had a sale on mini-fridges (the college dorm kind), the display consisting of one fridge with a big sticker on it reflecting the price. A man of rather large build casually picks up the display model and proceeds to walk towards the cashiers at the front of the store, blissfully unaware that he was indeed walking off with the display.

I was standing within earshot of two salesmen on the floor.

"What's that guy doing?"

"Uhmm, that's the floor model..."

"Someone should tell him."

At that point, it seemed like all the staff's eyes were trained on him, but no one wanted to engage him, either for fear of confrontong a big guy who's intentions were not know, laziness, or not wanting to embaress him.

Curious as to the outcome, I strolled towards the checkout myself. I missed the initial incident, but it turns out that he had plopped the fridge down on the checkout counter and wipped out cash, ready to pay. When I got there, a manager was making nice, telling him that they had a new model in a box waiting for him at the loading dock.

You're an ass. It's not OK to leave your customers waiting an inordinate amount of time. If there is a seasonal rush, then stores should try their best to adjust with extra staff to off set the wait.

No, I'd say you are an ass. If you don't like the wait, but the retail staff is honestly doing their best (If they're ignoring you and picking their nose, it's one thing) then STFU. If you think the store is understaffed, take it up with the manager, not the salesdrone. He has to deal with pissed off people all day, and constantly there are too many people in line.

God, whatever happened to common courtesy?

Maybe the management was an ass not to hire more employees, but it's rather asinine to call him an ass for something that wasn't his responsibility.

I called him an ass for not serving the customer after they waited their turn in line. Last time I checked he was hired to serve customers so that was his responsibility.

I could care less that he doesn't want to hear the customer's complaint. Unfortunately, as a customer facing employee, that is his job.

So you think people who are major asses deserve to be treated with the same kind of friendliness that nice people get?

Just because you work in the retail world doesn't entitle you to serve people based on your judgement of them. At the end of the day you're still working for a company, and you answer to the management. When you own your own business, feel free to discriminate customers based on whos nice and whos not.

This comes with the territory...you can't just be an ass cuz a customer was rude...

That's not what you said. Let's review, shall we?

Your two posts don't match up very well, or so it seems. Your latest statement actually might have some sense to it, but your first one was indeed asinine. Just in case it isn't clear, you called him an ass for the long delay, not for not serving the customer after she started the needless bitching.

Ironic you say that. Common courtesy is not making your customers wait too long in line.

No doubt she was rude, but so was he (as well as management, employees and owners) for not having enough staff to serve the seasonal rush. They are not doing their best because if they were then they would take it to management to try to get more staff to handle the rush. If management refused then at least the employee could say:

"Maam, I totally understand your concern. I have tried to rectify the situation - maybe it will make a difference coming from a customer. Please talk to the manager."

Instead he refused to serve her and caused his company to lose a customer. He is an ass.

No I don't. But they shouldn't be treated rudely either.

She was wrong for being rude, but I understand the frustration of waiting in a long line.

The store was being rude for not trying to serve their customers as quickly as they could. Whether or not the employee made the actual decision to not have sufficient staff is irrelevant. He is a representative of the store and therefore is subject to being judged for their inadequacies. If he doesn't like it, he can change jobs or try to change the store's policies around seasonal rushes. If management rejects him, then at least he tried and he can say so to the customers.

My wife has worked in retail for over 20 years, mostly as a manager. Each week she comes home with a new story that just amazes me. Everything from idiot customers bribing her to check fraud schemes to the ring of transvestite shoplifters.

In high school I was the Electronics Dept. guy and a lady came back and was pretty bitchy. She wanted an alarm clock and it was listed in the right spot for ~$25. She took it up front and thought it was going to be $20. The cashier called back to me to check the price again, and sure enough, it was $25. (there was a whole stack on the $25 spot)

About 5 minutes later the lady comes back and starts screaming at me and cursing. I was laughing because she looked so funny. That pissed her off more and she accused me of moving the whole stack of clocks and the price tags. I just kept laughing and she started walking towards me with her hand up like she was going to smack me. I laughed even more and she finally left.

She returned with a police officer saying that I moved the prices and the clocks and harrassed her. :)

Man... I miss that job.

It's funny you say that. One time a girl I know got stabbed in the face with a bic pen by an irrate customer. This girl is one of the nicest, most quiet, reserved people you'll ever meet, so I doubt she "asked for it".

From what I gather the lady was so mad over the price of something that she mumbled something in spanish, picked up the pen, then stabbed her in the cheek and left. They never caught the lady either.

Yesterday.

Customer: Where are your keyboards

I take them over to the keyboard section.

The guy looks at the most expensive keyboard mouse combo we have.

Customer: Can i get a deal on this one?

Me: Sorry we don't discount, but if you can find any of our competitors selling it for less, we will pricebeat (our pricing policy).

Customer: K, go find it for less somewhere for me.

Me:

I walked away.

Isn't it amazing how the "Bargain Hunters" always pick the most expensive item, then try to negotiate the price?
