I will only eat my tacos [not "a" taco] thusly:

1. Place a warm soft shell flour tortilla on the counter.
2. Smear the middle generously with warm canned Old El Paso refried beans.
3. Place a warm hard corn taco shell in the middle.
4. Fill with teh goodies.
5. Eat.
6. Repeat.

That's exactly how I enjoy them 🙂 Don't forget the hot sauce.

I see two things wrong there...
1. Should be prepared on a plate or something
2. :vomit;
The counter is clean since there's no vomit on it.

See step #4! 😉

If you want to keep it that way, I suggest avoiding the refried beans 😛

Nevar! That's what keeps all the goodies and broken hard shell inside the soft tortilla, mang.

Nah, you just need a big enough tortilla to completely wrap the crunchy taco.

Way too much flour. Blech...

crunchy shells, but I don't much like the taco bell like ones you buy at the store. I take corn tortillas and fry em up, just had some for lunch today, I cooked one too much and it was over crispy and the other was a little under done. Delicious though with ground beef + 4 Mexican cheese blend inside

Soft FTW. I can't even remember the last time I ate a hard shell taco.

No one said this is just about the shells at Taco Bell.
Making your own tacos at home with hard shells > *shell fast food tacos.

Definately soft. Whenever I bite into a hard shelled taco a ton of the taco guts falls out. I find them equally tasty though - this is all a matter of messiness.

True, but I am not talented enough (or maybe motivated enough) to make exceptional tacos at home, so tacos at a good, authentic taqueria or mexican place are going to be better than what I make at home. And those are always soft shell, preferably corn tortillas.

Soft shell, definitely. Whenever I eat hard shelled Tacos they fall apart in pieces and the contents drip out onto my hand. Soft shells lead to a much more satisfying Tex/Mex experience for me.

people should post their taco recipes for others, the shell is kind of a simple thing but what you put in them and how you prepare the meat is vital. my ground beef tacos

1lb of ground beef - 15% fat or whatever you get is fine, brown in pan
add 1 small (3/4 cup) can of tomato sauce, then add equal part water
add spices, the taco seasoning in a packet is okay but too salty for me. I put some chili powder, a dash of garlic and some fresh pepper. if I use the taco seasoning packet I either use 1/2 the packet or double the meat.
simmer over low heat stirring every couple of minutes until the tomato sauce and water have cooked down and it looks thick. you don't want any liquid, but don't overcook or it'll come out dry.

the tomato sauce might sound weird but it adds an excellent flavor to the meat and gives it a nice thickness. Get some oil nice and hot and fry up some corn tortillas. Add cheese, Lettuce, hot sauce, whatever toppings you like.

A+ tacos

that's what I like, after eating 3 or 4 tacos I take some extra lettuce some more cheese and some hot sauce and put it over the shell peices and meat that fell out. And BOOM I have a delicious ghetto taco salad. it's like 2 meals in one that way.

Hard shell if I was given the choice, but I buy corn tortillas 200 at a time at Costco. They're soft, so the ones I eat are soft. One fast meal in a microwave, with a variety of fillings. Hard shell tacos as just impractical. I grew up thinking that tacos were all hard shell, but I found out otherwise later when I found a very authentic Mexican takeout place in West L.A. Carnitas, carne asada, etc. as soft shell taco. Mmm!
