Del Taco/Taco Bell tacos aren't real tacos. It's low grade dog food wedged between a giant dorito.

I bet the vast majority of the people here that voted hard shell never had a real taco from an authentic mexican place.

I will only eat my tacos [not "a" taco] thusly:

1. Place a warm soft shell flour tortilla on the counter.
2. Smear the middle generously with warm canned Old El Paso refried beans.
3. Place a warm hard corn taco shell in the middle.
4. Fill with teh goodies.
5. Eat.
6. Repeat.

THANK YOU for posting this, because it made me want to try it and it is SO DAMN GOOD!

What I did was:
Warm up a hard corn shell in the oven
Steam an 8" flour tortilla (place a wire rack over a pan of boiling water)
Put a dollop of Old El Paso refried beans on the center of the flour tortilla and spread it around
Place warm hard shell in center of beans (it's nice because the beans hold it up)
Filled it up with some seasoned beef, some shredded Sargento chipotle cheddar cheese and a 4 cheese Mexican blend
Topped it off with some Santa Fe Packing Company Chunky Salsa
Devour
Repeat x2

Oh, and enjoy a nice cold Sol with a lime.
Taco and beer! Hells yeah. Glad you enjoyed it, mang. I asked wifey if we could have 'em tonight for dinner. She's down.

Sometimes I like it hard and sometimes I like it soft, it just depends on my mood, really...

I like both, but regardless of which is more "authentic" (taco-snobs ... thats a first! :p ), as far as I'm concerned soft shell taco's are just burritos in small wraps.

A burrito is distinguished by fillings, not by shell or size. Burritos usually contain both rice and beans, a taco contains neither.

Yes, those are the ones I like!!! There was a tiny place less than a half a block away from me that made those, but they were shut down recently. I can't seem to find anything else similar anywhere in the city. I miss those little guys. :(

They may prefer soft shells for health reasons. Tortillas aren't very healthy, but deep-fried they're obviously worse for you :p

I prefer hard shells
