Never read the books so I can't comment on the series "vs" but as a stand-alone story I've been enjoying it.... seems like they may be trying to cram too much story into too little show for the last season though.

Yeah, they've crammed a bit too much in most seasons, IMHO. I agree with @GodisanAtheist that Sci-Fi did a better job.

It feels like they've dumped the political and more thought provoking stuff (mostly with throw away lines) for more generic bad guy vs good guy shoot'em up. All the character development, and I use that very loosely felt more tacked on for runtime than any real development. I do have bigger fears of this turning into a very unsatisfying ending as they cram all the stuff they showed in this episode.

GoT style?

This fairly surprising as the last season, I'm about 40% the way through the last book (9 or 10?) and I guess they are just stopping well before where the series will actually finish. Or just straight up skip several books?

- The going theory is that they will go through book 6 with the series, and wrap up the last three books with a miniseries or a couple movies further on in the future.

If they can raise the cash for a couple of suitably budgeted movies, I would like that over a miniseries. I'd prefer the full series, but since that isn't happening...
I didn't read the books, but my brother went through them on audio when he had a longer commute. So we've watched a fair number of episodes together.

I think it happened off screen between season 5 and season 6.

That's my understanding as well.. I've been hoping it's because the actor went off to go do the Foundation show on Apple, which was much much better than I expected, and not because they were simplifying the show like I think.

Um... This is Amazon.
I'm sure they have the cash to make a 2hr movie to tie it up.

And I'm hoping American Gods makes a2hr movie to tie up the cancelled season 4

I suspect that a movie would be put together with outside financing. Amazon is a business after all, an they are very good business men/women.
Nobody wants to be the sole investor in a high quality movie with high production values. Plus side, the actors aren't super stars, so lower payroll.
Minus side, the actors on super stars, so it will be tougher to attract a broader audience. They'll need a top notch director with some serious cred.

amazon is spending hundreds of millions on the LOTR series. I think like 400 million maybe if I remember right without googling.
Interesting. There is, however, a HUGE following behind LOTR. The success of the three movies clearly proves this. That, and LOTR was Peter Jackson's magnus opus.

Definitely a huge difference between LOTR and the Expanse agreed. But they do have the money if they want to use it. But yes a much more risky investment.

Just watched first ep, s06. There were a butt load of scene cuts. Mainly noticed it at the beginning and middle. Guess I got into the rhythm after that.

This dropping once a week thing is ... annoying.
At least the Witcher dropped all at once (Netflix).

AppleTV, Amazon, HBO - they all do weekly episodes now at least for some of their shows. Hulu did that for Murders in the Building. HBO did that for Hacks. Apple for Foundation. Amazon now with The Expanse.

Netflix is the only major streaming service that drops all their whole seasons at once anymore that I know of.

I'll wait at least a couple of weeks to start watching the final season...sure I will...
