Well I just watched the new episode and it definitely wasn't what I thought it would be...not even close. 😀

Well I just watched this week's episode and it definitely was not what I was expecting. Of course Naomi survived but now we know how Cas was deleted from the show. When it started slow I was expecting that to be the pace and I was wrong. I really liked how Amos and Peaches are hitting on all cylinders now. The ending really heated things up but left me with more questions than it answered.

"I'd much rather have had Alex survive than Naomi. I think he's more important to the Roci's mission...but perhaps less important to Holden."Dammit...I guess I'm gonna have to find the books now...although I understand things aren't exactly following the books very closely

That's because the actor playing Alex was a victim of the sexual allegations against him so he ended up being removed from the show.

Same, really.

Try and get the books, or their audio versions, like in my case: i highly recommend it.

Last book (book #9) is taking WAY too long to get released 🙁

hell...I thought there was already 10 books out...😕

You think the actor is a victim here? Are you high on crack?

Until the allegations are proven true, yes he is. So far, they are just that: allegations. It's innocent until proven guilty, unless you think it should be guilty unless proven innocent instead ...

There SEEMS to be a strong case against him due to being MULTIPLE women filling complaints but, SO FAR, nothing has been proven AFAIK.

I agree the investigation needs to sort out the truth, but what info we do have now does not look good. But we shall see the verdict. In the meantime I still don't think that makes him a victim though. If he turns out to have been falsely accused then he'll be a victim.

Agreed, but so far, all I've seen is that he sent some inappropriate text messages to women...no claims of actual sexual assault. Of course, since other than the show losing an important character, I don't really give a shit one way or the other. The TV/movie biz has been this way since it began.

True, which is why i said:

There hasn't been ANYTHING proven against him YET, so he's a victim of that already. It may later be proven to be true but it hasn't so far, so he'll continue to be a victim until such time as the allegations against him are proven true, IF they end up being proven true.

I was so hoping that would be the case but this is why I said it didn't turn out like I thought it might. It's also why I'm not reading the books so that there aren't any contradictions when I watch an episode.

Is the book as bad as this season? I'm thinking of reading it but don't want to go through all that Naomi drama again.

IMO, the books are better but this is subjective: just because i like it a lot doesn't mean others will too.

The version i have is in audio form: all 8 books released thus far. I'm already on the 3rd time listening to the whole series.

Wife and I are pissed, we don't know what to make of ending scene.

Was that transit? Or was that the ring putting it's foot down?

Pretty sure this means we get more Anderson Dawes for final season, I hope anyway. Big fan of Jared Harris.

When a bunch of mass transits a ring at essentially the same time there is sometimes glitch and some things don't come out the other side, never to be seen again. Dunno if this is just a limitation of the technology the builders utilized or some form of an attack from the entities that destroyed them.

... a certain limit when transiting to / from the rings.

Jared Harris is indeed a great actor. Unfortunately, and due to the massive changes to the Anderson Dawes character in the show VS the original, i can't say for certain if he will appear in the show again.

... Anderson Dawes does appear, but briefly.

That ending with the Martian Ship being broken down at a molecular level - I was like WTF! With all the red/black swirling, I thought it was the enemy 'entities' getting annoyed with the Sol system inhabitants use of the gate or the proto-molecule's transit into the gate. Though, since @H T C read the books - he must know what he's talking about. The last episode made watching the whole season worth it. If only there were 13 episode per season.

Oh, and I'm practicing safe spoiling 😉

Should i add a couple more in my previous reply just to be safe?

The books are better IMO also, but I still love the series. I have all the books on audio as well, but I've only listened to them once through so far. Been through the tv series 2-3 times now. I kept re-watching them just before s4 and s5 came out. I might start listening to the books again soon.

I felt like Alex's death was handled as well as it could be without a bunch of reshoots with the actor himself. It reminded me of Shed's death from the first season (no fanfare, just alive one second, dead the next) and tied in well with his character, who has probably gotten "juiced" more than anyone and was due a massive stroke. The character also died in a sort of understated heroism: not a blaze of glory but still trying to save his friend through risky flying. Fitting for the expanse.

Granted, the actual editing in the show was a bit janky, and they clearly edited him out of some scenes and the tone was weirdly jarring with everyone happy with spliced in scenes of mourning.

Looks like they're going to move Bull in to fill out Alex's role in the crew, given him holding the "Kamal" cup.

As for the season overall? I am mixed. The show was clearly produced for the old "solid dump" format with the pacing between the episodes being all over the place. On old OLD OTA and Cable TV shows, the writers would write in mini cliffhangers every 15 minutes and big ones at the end of episodes because they had to keep people from losing interest and changing the channel during commercial breaks or not coming back next week. I feel like digital content producers need to recapture this now lost art if the idea is to drip out episodes once a week again.

I don't remember the Naomi plot line for this book\season being as big in the books as it was in the show. TBH I found all the breathing and grunting when she was on the ship annoying and would fast forward. I get what they were trying to do but not my cup of tea.

Amos is my favorite character and I think they did an even better job with his character in the books

That wasn't transit - that was something else

I read the books first, then got the Audible books for a quicker "reread" before trying to binge the show.

I just started the show about 2 weeks ago but gave up around Ep 3 of S2. I just can't get into it at all. Characters feel very different. Quality of the show feels kinda meh in general. I think we're all so desperate for SciFi that The Expanse is "amazing" but I just don't see it.

I do think a lot of this may be that I loved the books, loved 'em, and there's enough that's changed that it just doesn't feel right. Some of the characters are different enough to feel uncomfortable to me. shrug.

So I just watched S6 E1 and I just don't feel like they've put the same level of effort into it despite what's been said publicly. I'm hoping that the Book of Boba Fett will be that show for me later this month when it debuts.

-Haven't seen it yet, but all of the Amazon seasons of the show have been missing a little bit of that *something* that made the Sci-Fi airings of the show have a bit more zip and panache.

I think having the show switch over from a more episodic format where there are more hooks and cliffhangers to keep you interested due to television formatting, to a now more common long form format that has come about due to streaming services.

The current format ends up with 2-3 really exciting episodes where something actually happens and 7-8 dialogue or exposition heavy episodes that can drag a bit too much.

On another note, looks like we're going to be getting a new Expanse Virtual Novel style game from the reborn Telltale Games.
