This thread is crazy. I know plenty of guys besides myself who shoot in the 80's without a ton of rounds per year. That's only a couple shots better than bogey golf.
Any person with decent golfing skills and a level head on the course can achieve that. As long as they can putt.
Maybe you guys who doubt this play with the wrong people. I used to play with guys like you when I was younger; guys who cared about score more than even enjoying the round of golf itself. Inevitably there would be angry outbursts, swearing, and thrown clubs etc
And more often than not that would cause everybody to implode.
Now, years later, I live in a different town and play with even keel guys who are out there to enjoy golf for what it is. That makes a huge difference.
And yes - we play it where it lies. The only "rule adjustment" we make is that we play first drive in off of #1; your round starts with a good drive. But I can't even remember the last time we used that. Probably 2 years ago.
Once when I was still golfing with the hotheads we were at a bar after the round. I thought I had parred 5 holes in a row and was talking about that stretch with some non-golfers when one of the guys (one of my BEST friends at the time who wasn't even involved in the conversation) angrily commented "you parred 4 holes in a row, you lying f$%^".
This thread reminds me of those days.
And the guys I used to play with? As far as I know, none of them plays anymore. Imagine that.
