Swiftkey 3 Out

I've been a Swype user for a long time but they just pushed out a new beta that removed a bunch of features. They've taken out the ability to manually edit the personal dictionary and set it back to how it used to work - words are automatically added to the personal dictionary when you type them.

Since the Swype team is obviously not interested in advancing their software and instead likes to make changes just for the hell of it, I might be done. Swiping is nice though, it'll be hard to go without it. I'm going to try the trial for a few days and see how it goes.

EDIT: Hmm, SwiftKey 3 doesn't have the ability to manually customize your dictionary either. It works just like Swype, auto-adding words that you type in and not letting you manually add them. But it is a nice keyboard.

Excellent. Been waiting for this ever since I heard the developer interviewed on All About Android. Thanks!

If you got swiftkey x for free from the amazon app store its been upgraded to swiftkey 3.

Ive been using the beta for the last couple months. I like that it usually figures out what I mean to type if I miss the space bar. My favorite keyboard

Ah neat! I had SwiftKey X installed from the Amazon Appstore and I had to uninstall it and then reinstall it to upgrade it to 3, but it did work.

Now I just have to decide if I can use it instead of Swype.

FlexT9 also has a "swype" feature, and also next-word prediction like Swiftkey (although the next-word prediction is nowhere as good as Swiftkey's).

I like Swiftkey, but I think Swiftkey X worked a bit better than 3. I'm having a ton of issues with contractions. It also doesn't play well with the D4's hardware keyboard, which is annoying...

Swiftkey and Swype shouldn't even be compared. SKX was vastly better than any incarnation of the Swype beta. I bought the new one today before I saw the free upgrade thing. *DOH* But it's cool I'd gladly pay $20 for it so dropping $1.99 doesn't bother me at all. While I still type better on the iOS keyboard, on Android I won't use anything but Swift.

Such harsh criticism of Swype. I don't like some of the changes they've made (forcing the cursor to jump around, adding and then removing nice features), but once you get used to swipe typing it's hard to go back.

I do agree that you can't compare them. But I don't see how you can call SwiftKey "vastly better" than Swype when they're really very different things.

Silly question, but would this work well on a 10" Honeycomb tablet? I've just started playing with my ThinkPad Tablet and need to look at keyboard options.

Love Swiftkey X on my Rezound for sure

They have a tablet version as well. I was using the tablet version of SwiftKey X on my rooted Kindle Fire and it was great. I'm going to buy the tablet version of 3 too.

I swapped back to swiftkey after new Swype versions started freezing up for a few seconds at a time.

They're not different things, they just do the same thing very differently. And one just does it better. I can bang out emails using Swift twice as fast as I can with Swype. If a person took a week to adjust to SwiftKey I don't see how they wouldn't be a lot faster with it. The best Swyper won't be nearly as fast as the best Swiftkey'er. And with it's learning functionality, it will at times finish whole sentences after the 1st 2 words just by me pressing the space bar. It's auto guessing is pretty damn amazing. Swype does nothing better imho.

You should check out the new Swype beta. You can shrink the keyboard down and move it where you want. In landscape, I use it small and in the far right, so I can just use one hand.

What I don't like about the Swype beta is the inconsistent theme on the keyboard where as Swiftkey 3 has a seriously sexy Holo theme among a few others. It's a small thing but it meshes well with CM9 so much nicer when it follows the android design guidelines.

I thought the Swype beta has been closed?

Yeah, I love the holo theme.

Am I the only one that hates this new version? The suggestions and auto-changes are horrible. I just typed "cant" and instead of changing it to "can't" like it used to, it corrected it to "can." Same thing with a number of other contractions.

Previous version worked so much better. Also, I'm unable to remove some words (at random seemingly) from its dictionary.

Edit: Geez, "we'd" isn't even a presented option for typing "wed." Seriously, Swiftkey? Seriously?

I didn't remember I bought Swiftkey X (the precursor to 3) a while back. I never used it much. I decided to install this new version and so far it's pretty awesome!

Does haptic feedback work for anyone? I'm getting thrown off not getting that feedback while I type.

EDIT: Haptic feedback is enabled in settings.

The only thing I absolutely hate about Swiftkey is the fact that a space is automatically inserted after punctuation. I can't type my email address into any forms efficiently because it has a period in it. And swiftkey never seems to "learn" my entire email address, so I can never just insert it after typing a couple of characters.

Actually some of the fastest competitive texters (...yes I know) use swype. Its not to my taste but theres no denying its fast.

but the fastest typing has been done on an iPhone.

The best keyboard is one that taps well. That is SmartKeyboad Pro.

Who cares about the prediction of Swiftkey. If you're fast enough in typing, you won't care as its much faster for you to just keep punching keys.
