So I'm guessing it's a mostly paper launch designed to slow down R7 sales.

No, if it were a paper launch there would be no units available.

I suggest we wait and see - maybe availability will be okay in the US. We need CFL to actually launch to find out. It might just be the high binned 8700K's that are limited - we'll have to see.

Only the best contestants of the F5 Olympics will walk away with a hot cup of Coffee from the Lake!
Exactly. What is the fun in owning something that is readily available and relatively affordable? I prefer my purchases to be neither, but they have to be at least one of the two!

I would have held off on a 7700K the moment I heard about the 8700K and had a reasonable idea of it's release date.
So, I don't think that's as much of a factor now. People started holding off on the 7700K a long time ago, imo.
Exactly. Might as well get as many 8700k sales as possible. I would think 7700k goes mostly to diyers who would wait for 8700k anyway. Might also persuade a lot of potential Ryzen buyers to wait.

Well if it really takes till December or 2018, then Intel you messed up. I would have rather waited for January 2018, have good supply and a Z390 motherboard. But now we get z370, have to wait for z390 till next summer and still can't buy a 8700k earlier. Utter failure if this happens.

CFL was originally scheduled for RTS Q1 2018, no wonder there will be low volume in Q4 2017. But we all know now why they rushed the release.

Intel insisted because a new socket was required for the 6 core chip.
It's not that I haven't seen the posts detailing the new power pins, it's just that with CoffeeLake launching 9-10 months after KabyLake I find it hard to believe that Intel couldn't have predicted this requirement.

Still, motherboard manufactures should be happy.

Well here it's the afternoon of the 5th and not even listed except for one online shop that has 8700 / 8700k as "temporarily unavailable". 8700k priced at ~420USD a piece.

The 8600K and 8700K are back ordered at newegg. Looks like the other chips are in stock.

In Norway the CPUs aren't even listed...

Btw, if the delay is long then I might even wait for Pinnacle Ridge benchmarks and compare.

CFL just became available on my favorite local shop in Eastern Europe: just a few pieces of 8700K and 8700, a decent amount of 8400, a few 8100.

Prices are mostly in line with MSRP. At this moment the 8400 is cheaper than R5 1600.

Yeah. Haven't seen any listing here either and had exactly the same thought. It it is January till you can buy one at reasonable price, i can just as well wait for Zen+.

Komplett (no/se/dk) have 8700k in stock for anticipated 2 december. You can have 8400... at proshop in .dk a bit more expensive than 1600.
I havnt seen a similar launch for Intel like ever. There is just no meaningfull numbers of the interesting cpu.
Even 8700k review samples are shipped around. lol. - i think they should just have waited 2 months but hey they would probably not like to get close to february zen. Its not easy. Perhaps its better this way.

They have to worry about RR & PR, KBL inventory will also have to be depleted in the meantime. Basically they're damned if they do & double damned if they don't, the only silver lining is that overall the ASP will likely be higher.

8700K looks nice but finally very happy to see more bang for buck in the core i5 series , or at least a nice improvement :p.

But urgh why make it themself so difficult , some store have like a promotion going with delivery time in December. Just like with many other products you just leave people disappointed, why do that, was waiting a month that bad?

I am not so sure about the asp. 7700k was selling well. Right now in regards to what matters to asp 8700k have like excactly zero impact. I think it just means lost 7700k sale.

They are hell bend on this fastest thing and launches sklx and cl with broken bios especially for turbo that makes them look worse in reviews than needed for a meager 1 or 2 months ttm. If thats the right expression to use as there is no 8700k.

You just cant pull things forward a quarter with such a huge machine. They skimp on the testing and imo its about as stupid as it can be for such a brand.

Dont know. I would have waited 2 months. Bios working and actually have some limited cpu to sell. I think people would wait and zen plus is probably not so fast anyway and if it was so what. Nothing you can do on it short term especially selling borked bios.

from the benchmarks it seems like you can get 8700k performance (at least for gaming) or better today by buying a used 5820k+ on x99... takes the wind out of Cofee Lake sails pretty hard. Hopefully anandtech's results were an anomaly but I fear not.

At the cost of less die/wafer translating into lower returns/wafer. The i3 models being the perfect example.

If you take a look at the conclusion, the theory is additional cores being activated (when compared to 4c 7700k) which reduced the all core turbo (4.3Ghz compared to 4.4Ghz on 7700k).

Simple fix - apply a fixed multi-core turbo of 4.7Ghz. ;)

Another fix.
Go play the games that actually taxes the cpu.

Biggest online retailer in Norway got some 8700k's, but bundled them with built machines in the 2.5k $ price range, no other retailer has any.
