lane splitting is for when bumper to bumper traffic prevents air cooled bikes from cooling down.. so a FEW states with cali being the main one have an OLD law on the books that allows bikes to split lanes till they can get out of traffic so as not to increase stalls and traffic with overheated air cooled bikes suffocating in traffic...

You really need to learn to read better man and not put words in other peoples thoughts...

OK I'll explain my comments a bit better sorry. I meant you are breaking the post down into small chunks and answering them as complete seperate entities instead of the whole thing as it is meant to be read. Nowhere in his post does he mention speeding while lanesplitting, however you have tried to twist different sections of his post to sound as if that was exactly what he was saying. If he was saying it was safe to speed and lanesplit (we call it filtering over in the UK) then I totally agree it is both stupid and dangerous, but if you read the CSViN's posts he never said he does that, or to my recollection/understanding even implied it. Like I said I'm not looking to partake in any flame war I happen to agree with most of CSViN's comments when you take them in the manner they were intended. I do think some of his comments about cars border on the irrational, but as a bike rider myself I can sort of see where he is coming from as we are all taught to look out for "idiots" in cages. Sadly as there are many more car drivers than bike riders there is a much higher percentage of BAD car drivers than BAD bike riders, however ALL bike riders are tarred with the same brush i.e. they ride a bike therefore they must be dangerous hooligans. This is simply not true for the majority of bike riders, yes there are a$$hats who give us all a bad name however they are in the minority and to be perfectly honest are looked down on by bike riders just as much as car drivers. Just please don't automatically tar everybody with the same brush, lanesplitting is perfectly safe at speeds up to 40MPH when done with care. Bikes are much more manouverable than cars, if you've never ridden one or only ride one occasionally then most people would not realise this and automatically think what the bike rider is doing is dangerous when it's actually not.

Cars suck plain and simple... all cars not just SUVs... I have not owned a car myself in over 15 years... i refuse to suck the earth dry of gas so I can have 4 wheels... i use 4 gallons a week of gas on my commute for an entire week... I am allowed to use the HOV lanes in my state because my state realizes this.. bikes do not blow bad emissions now to we wear out roads like cars and trucks do..
it takes alot less metal and other materials to make 1 bike over a car... the earth is not a bottomless pit of resources you know...
My rage toward cars is not just based on this issue.. I hate many things the human race does to kill the earth.. but this is just one of them...

If bikes were more accepted like cars are and eveyrone had a bike like vehicle.. roads would be much smaller.. we wouldnt need so much gas so it would be more plentiful and cheaper...
we wouldnt be using up all our steel and other matierals on cars and trucks to clog our earth with smog and traffic..

I will admit that at stop lights I do occaisonally break this law im not a liar.... but that is stopped traffic and im doing less than 20 mph when i do creep to the front of the light...
I admitted that I had been dumb and went to jail for it...
I also said I learned alot for that mistake...
but for the record i do not use excessive speed anywhere but on the racetrack...
I will do about 5 mph over what traffic is doing usually.. and thats it...

Sometimes I agree. But, a neccasary evil. I'd prefer a bike, but in the winter with snow ass deep there not too practical. Aside, having 3 kids and a wife means I'd have a hard time getting everyone to the activity we were going to if I had a bike. I also agree on the non infinite resources. I've been looing into alot of alternatives in my own lifestyle to help out, up to and including changing to low energy light bulbs and having my Expedition converted to a pure ethyl ethanol fuel.

Illegal in CT, and many other states. CA is the only state I'm familiar with that does not make it illegal.

Only one person in the crashed SUV was wearing a set belt! That's just plain stupid!

5 people seriously hurt. If they all had been wearing seatbelts, no one would have been seriously hurt.

Yeah, the fault goes with the stunt-riders, but how many stunt-DRIVERS have you read about causing accidents? Quite a bit.

There will always be some young punks on the road trying to show off. Hell, I was one of them once.

The important thing the article should have stated was: Always wear your seat belt! (or helmet, if a biker)

I hate those fsckers. The other day when I was driving back from Jersey, there were a group of 10 of these future darwin award winners. They were weaving in and out of lanes and going between cars even. If I had been changing lanes, they would have been dead. Which would be a good thing.

yea no kidding. everytime one of those guys sneaks by me i wonder what woulda happened if i had just drifted a bit for whatever reason. these people gamble that you are static and always will remain static within a lane. a stupid chance to take really

Exactly! They're future darwin award winners like CVSiN. Only reason I'm not tempted to drift is because I'll probably end up getting hurt or killed too in my Accord.

Err I completely understand what you wrote 😉

And Shock, I apologise if my previous posts sounded like I was having a pop at you they weren't really meant to sound like that (I've just re-read them and didn't like the way the first one sounded), it takes a big man to back down as in your last post to CSViN and I salute you for that 🙂 I think that's one of the big problems with this form of conversation over a spoken one, so many things can be taken out of context and blown up all out of proportion. Please accept my apology.
