Surely it's been asked but: What mental problem would make somebody buy a *PONTIAC* crossfire?

After glancing over this thread, I'm a little confused as to what "fast" even is anymore. Is a car "fast" because of it's 0 - 60 time? I thought that was "quick." Is it "fast" because of its top speed? That's what I always throught "fast" was anyway. But the question is, if a car can do the speed limit on the interstate and then some, why is it not "fast" enough? Because you have to maul the gas to blow away everyone you think your racing from the stop light? Or because it's top speed isn't up there with high end sports cars on an open track? I can assure you, not many people are going to be taking stock crossfires with V6's out to the track to see how it holds up, so it's top speed is pretty moot. Unless of course you're sophmoric as hell and you just have to know it's better than somebody elses car on the road. It's a "sporty coupe." It's a low sitting, two seater, with decent speed and acceleration. "Sporty" doesn't mean "muscle" car, and this isn't a "family" car for you, your wife, and your 2.5 kids.

My brain read Crossfire as Sunfire. But then another part was like 'WTF! $35K for a Pontiac?'

The new Pontiac GTO is gonna be around 32-35k. Of course, I think its totally worth the price!

I love that car!
Agreed the new GTO is pretty badass looking and has the power to back it up.

I'm not sure if there is an industry standard to the word. You could say that "fast" is something that is faster than the average car. This is, but I think a better definition of fast would include not only the price of the car but its premise as well. In this case it's expensive and the car's premise is to be a sports car. Considering that many other "sports cars" for the same price can beat it I'd call it slow. Fast for a minivan - slow for a $35k sports car.

Well 60 Hp will get you up to 70 mph! Because you have to maul the gas to blow away everyone you think your racing from the stop light? And yet other cars are more of those things for less price, which leads me to the original question.

The only thing that worries me, is that why is Chrysler/Dodge focusing on expensive cars? Whatever happened to focusing on giving out new competitive products for their volume sellers (ie: family cars such as the Camry and such.)

Chrysler use to be the highend luxury division and they are trying to go back to that. Dodge is getting a bunch of new cars here soon too and they will be more reasonably priced. One of which is the new neon based on the same platform as the lancer if I remember right, wont be called a neon anymore though.

BTW the Crossfire is suppost to handle really well so whoever said it had poor handling needs to know what they are talking about before spouting off.

Skoorb. WTF are you smoking?? You do know that the Crossfire is basically a Mercedes SLK with a fixed roof and a new body for $10,000 less...right??

Back up and step away from the keyboard. Thank you, come again.

Snicker. 😛

Skoorb just LOVES to get people riled up. He sits here typing away, giggling, just thinking of the responses he will get! Sometimes I have to laugh at him because I know him and when he is serious or just being a BRAT! 😛

Heh. The entire problem with this thread is simple - all the idiots are replying because it isn't prefixed "YACT:" which stands for "Idiots who don't change your own oil should stay out"

So a mercedes SLK is basically a crossfire, but it costs $45k? What do you get for that that makes it worth spending a full 10 grand more than a significantly more capable G35 (for instance)?

For that extra $10k people know your driving a Mercedes 🙂.
