How about "Breath air" or "Support cute babies". We all support the men and woman in the military, it's just something that doesn't need used as a decoration.

So you spent $2 on a magnet and lined some guys pockets. You still drive your SUV. You still get 12 miles.gallon. Did you join the army yet? Did you send body armor to the troops? Did you give up your tax break to pay for the war?

Enough with the fake support, those ribbons don't mean jack $hit.

We all support the men and woman in the military

Everyone likes to say this, but there is a certain 17 - 23% of the population who really hate them.

Guess who...

On a scale of 1-10, I give that rant about a 3.

While I sport no ribbons/banners/fish, I fail how you get to claim that everyone who has one is "faking support" for our troops. While there's no doubt that some people buy them for show and don't think twice about after putting it on their bumber, there are probably many who have close freinds/relatives in the services, or spend countless hours and $$ directly helping our troops. Nice of you to dismiss their actions and commitment in one fell swoop.

Maybe no one should fly the American flag, either. I mean, come on, we all support our nation, but that's no excuse to use it as decoration.

We're all glad that you are so high-n-mighty that you feel it necessary to express your faux outrage and indignation in front of an audience, but perhaps this is best placed in OT, as it is neither politics, nor news.

17-23% ?? i'm not making the connection here. i'm sure it's some sort of bash on someone you don't care for (liberals i'm guessing) but I just am not sure where the 17-23% comes from...

I think you wer generous at giving him a 3. I think these people really do want the best for our troops. Sure, their money could be better used to support the troops. But its theirs to spend as they choose.

i think the main argument here is that if you have to sport a ribbon to show everyone you support the troops perhaps you aren't doing it for the most noble reasons. i'm guessing most of the people that have the ribbons really do like to think they support the troops and deep down inside wish them no harm and to return home safely. however it would be much more legitimate to give all the money spent on that ribbon right to the organization that needs it instead of wasting 1/2 or more of the money on the ribbon itself. the ribbons are a nice idea but it's become much too much of a fad to be taken as a serious show of support anymore. people who commute alone to work everyday in an SUV perhaps should rethink what they are doing. our dependence on oil probably played some part as to why we went to iraq (and not other places with similar problems but no oil). at most i'm annoyed with the ribbons at this point but i wouldn't dismiss anyone's support outright. the ribbon just doesn't mean much of anything anymore...

That is true for 80% of anything that anyone does anymore. Why not rant about people who drive popular cars, listen to popular music, get cosmetic surgery, buy designer clothes, or those who buy 'too much' house, etc.

It's not an illegitimate complaint, this is just not the place for such, IMO. Take to OT, with all the other 14-year-olds who like to complain about being offended and disgusted about what other people do in their private lives.

Why does this subject come up in here every few months...

It's called free-speech... and it bothers me that people attempting to show their patriotism are so "bothersome" to you.

This statement is of more concern to me than any ribbon. Every person who lives in this country has a relative or friend, (or themself), who is in or was in the military. To make a ridiculous statement like this with no proof is insulting to everyone regardless of their political stance, party affiliation or attitude about our foreign policy. I am disgusted with this broad brush that certain individuals like to paint those who object to what we are doing in Iraq.

"support the troops" stickers are essentially "I support the Iraq war" stickers in practice. At best, they are empty statements.

Au contraire...they usually also convey a "I LOVE GEORGE W BUSH" message.

At least us "lefties" will know which car(s) to force off the road ;):p:D

Sorry I offended you.

By the way, the numbers are those that identify as liberals, and as we all know...

Well, I see no point in pointing to the obvious conclusion. Fool yourself as you will but there are people in this nation that get giddy whenever another casualty report comes in. This has been common practice since the rise of, gasp, modern Liberalism, and gasp, Vietnam. There are also leaders who ask the military to send more troops, not because we need them, but simply because there will be more target and a chance at a higher casualty toll.

Call me what you will, but I am a careful watcher of the news and people, and this is a pretty simple conclusion to make.

Actually it is a pretty simple minded conclusion to make!

Of the 3 people I know who have "troop support" merchandise on their vehicles, 1 voted for Bush, the other 2 for Kerry.

Only a complete moron would attempt to view the support of the general welfare of those who risk their lives to protect us citizens as an indication of political identification and support.

Do you also snicker at the "hidden" meanings behind HWY 69, the word titillate, and the name Howdy Doody?

Maybe you and your "leftie" friends just need to grow up a bit.

Yes, those people exist, but not 1 in 5. Liberals don't want troops dead, a$$ holes want people dead. Your statement is as retarded as me saying conservatives would rather see poor children starve rather then provide food at their expense. Its just dumb. You took a dumb post by the author of the thread and instead of swinging a homerun (which should have been easy) you fouled off into right feild.
