"their actions so far demand no respect. "
No need to defend me Infohawk, although I appreciate the thought.
I still stand by everything I've said here, but opinions can change.
I'm not so sure about comment #1 anymore. I thought the insurgent's motives were clearly to resist the illegal occupation of their country by the US, which is an ideal I support. This was the same ideal that the US government supported decades ago in Afghanistan, when they helped Afghani's resist the illegal occupation of the Russians in their country.
Everybody here lacks perspective. It's easy for us to label the insurgents as terrorists for not supporting the new US-backed regime because we think we can do no wrong. But flip the tables. Imagine your everyday normal life being interrupted by bombs, tanks, and warfare...tearing up your neighborhoods and cities...killing your friends and family. Imagine your water being cut off, your food being rationed, and your electricity turning on for a few hours each day. Imagine your home being raided in the middle of the night by foreign occupiers, whose motive for this whole ordeal turned out to be completely falsified. Would you so easily give your support to those occupiers?
I am changing my mind now that the insurgency seems less focused on the occupiers and more so on innocent civilians.
As for comments #2 and #3, I said those because our nation's actions in Iraq deserve absolutely not one single ounce of reward. The war was illegal, the occupation is illegal, and every original reason for going to war has been discredited. If and when we leave Iraq, I'm sure Bush will throw a victory parade, and I'm sure I will lift my middle finger in support of everyone at that parade. Victory...bullsh1t. We should be happy with piecing the country back together and leaving it with enough strength to hold itself together. Our country's actions in Iraq to this day demand no respect. Billions spent, billions missing, countless dead, untold numbers wounded, lives ruined. It's like praising a child for glueing together something they broke.
