Suitemate busted?

CraKaJaX

Lifer
Just got an email about my buildings RA. My roommate and I were suite mates with him (shared a bathroom between our rooms.) He had to live in his room alone as an RA, so what really should of been a 4 person suite, we only had 3. (Me, my roommate, and the RA in the other bedroom.) We got along just fine and he seemed cool. Never bothered us or anything. Really shy dude and whatnot. But apparently I was mistaken...

Email:

"To All Thomas Residents:

This is to inform you that Alex ____, Thomas RA, has been suspended from the RA staff indefinitely and is no longer serving as the RA for Thomas. Alex?s residency in Thomas has also been suspended.

It is too soon to identify the long range plan for staffing Thomas with an RA. In the short run and through at least this weekend, the other RAs on the Graham/Price staff will be making extra rounds in Thomas and will be available to assist you if needed."

I went over and knocked on his door, but no answer. All of his shit is still there, except the bare essentials. I noticed his computer is gone, clothes, toothbrush, etc. The good news is... his 42" Bravia, couch, and fridge are still in there. I think until we get notified of a new RA who is moving in there, the DVD player is being relocated. 😀

What the hell could he have done? It was so sudden, it was almost like "You have 5 minutes to get what you need and get the fuck out." So he grabbed what he could and bailed. I know he was in a frat, so he might be temporarily staying at the house.. or kicked out for the semester? No idea. The frat could also be the reason he got screwed over.

Could be something minor, RAs are held to a higher standard and since they recieve their rooms for free in most cases the school will be less understanding when they mess up.

Drug-related offense?

Jesus, I know plenty of people who have been caught in the act of smoking, or just in possession. All they do is get written up by security (if that's who they are caught by.) Of course, if caught by the PD, I have no idea... but residency suspended? I haven't heard of that. It would have to be a damn felony.

Are his entertainment equipment your property?

Otherwise, he'll be back for his stuff soon, and if you "relocate" it it's called stealing.

lol, I understand this. And I'm not relocating anything of his, my roommate wanted to hook his dvd player up to the bigger tv. I would never do such a thing, just kidding around. 😛

get out of a dorm and into a frat ftw?

You mean FTL 😛.
heh. i have a friend in a frat at Cornell. it's accredited through the college. (they have the same standards as the dorms and are inspected by the college periodically)
nice house, nice guys, and a combined GPA of 3.3.

the freedom and space of a frat house compared to his dorm living last year are worlds apart.

that sucks for him. probably legal trouble.

Yeah. It also sounds more serious than getting caught with alcohol on campus or something. I would think anything "normal" would involve a hearing and such and there would be at least a couple days notice.

thats not true everywhere, many frat houses are shitholes

depending on school living off campus may not be an option either, we coudl only love off campus our senior year and only if approved, as a junior you could live in a frat/other club house but that was it

upperclassmen got much nicer dorms (more like apts) but they were still dorms

get out of a dorm and into your own apt ftw!

fixed.

alright... i'll agree with you on that, but then you need a car too.

You don't need a car if you live in an apartment near campus.

This...plus I found that efficiency living was just as cheap as living in a dorm (at least where I went to school). Plus you don't share the room or use community showers and toilets.

like to elaborate?

Sure.

- What's the point of paying "dues" of hundreds of dollars a semester? If you don't even get to LIVE at the house? It's going towards kegs. MAYBE a little towards rent, but those who live there pay that. It goes towards beer. Oh right, and I get to drink no where NEAR the amount of beer I paid for. Random ass people coming in also get to drink it. I can save the $400 or so, and buy it for MYSELF.

- Pledging? Hazing? Yea, I'm going to swallow a goldfish... or tie a brick to my dick and let it hang while one of my "big brothers" cuts the string off. This gets me brotherhood. This proves I am dedicated.

- Getting drunk every god damn night is cool? Uh, not exactly. First of all, frats get the shittiest god damn beer they can find. It's cheap. Oh yea, and I'm paying for this garbage. I'd rather sit in my room, with a couple friends, and drink good beer. Or go out somewhere else and drink good beer.

- Most of the houses are JUNK. Holes in the floor, roof, ceiling, garbage everywhere. It's a shit hole. Of course, some aren't like this -- but the majority are. Hell, if you're drunk who the hell cares, right?

Now, don't get me wrong, the above doesn't apply to ALL frat/sorority houses, but I can sure as hell tell you it applies to most. Some frats are incredible. They actually care and do cool shit. Some of them have houses that are worth amazing amounts of money. Huge stone pillars in front of the house, nice wood floors, cathedral ceilings, marble counter tops, etc... but I can think of only ONE of those out of the 40+ that I know of just at this school. I guess that's just my view. Everyone has their own opinions I guess.

Not necessarily a dorm.. since you get a kitchen, living room, bathroom, etc. It's basically an apartment. Not usually as nice as off campus apartments, but apartments none the less IMO.
