Not reliable as the corsair. I've recommended it before, but that was before the Corsair 650TX dropped a bit in price to where it is today.

no, OCZ is not reliable at all. I've had quite a few problems with mine not being at stated speed, it not being usable and all sorts of hell.

But my main question is 'can i mix ram with different timings and brands?'

I'm pretty sure you can. It will just slow down the faster RAM to be at the Slower RAM's speed.

STRONGLY not recommended on a fresh build/ full ram upgrade. If someone is out to get ram for his 4 year old system and it ends up being like $50 then go for it, but if it is like $60 to replace all his ram with better RAM I'd recommend that.

IMO, mixing ram is ok, but it does introduce the possibility of incompatibility. I haven't had an issues mixing ram in my current and older rigs.

I highly recommend using JEDEC standard timings and voltages for mixed ram, since not all ram can run on tight timings and/or higher voltages.

Lately i have been thinking about ether getting i7 or the AMD x6... I cant decide between the 2...
What is going to have more power overall?

Thanks!

X6 is the best performance, but the i7 is most powerful by very little for $100 more. It's up to you.

and between x6 or the black edition? Is it worth the extra $60.00

In Gaming and Photoshop what will be faster, x6 or i7?

Thanks again!

Ok, After many hours of research, and suggestions i think i am ready to pull the trigger:)

I am just stuggleing between some different build options :sneaky:

First option:

Mushkin Enhanced Silverline 12GB
ASUS Sabertooth/ Intel Core i7-950
CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX 650W
Case/ OS
SPARKLE SXX4701280D5-NM GeForce GTX 470
H70 cpu cooler
DVD Burner
1TB spinpoint F3
Arctic Silver Alumina

Second Option only has these changes:

G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 12GB/ ASUS P6X58D-E LGA 1366
Intel Core i7-950
(and all the other components above (except the mobo/ram)

The Third is a AMD build:

ASUS M4A88TD-V/ AMD Phenom II X6
G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (X2)

And everything else the same as the first one as well.

What build will have the best performance, and stay in/under the $1,400 range?

Here is what i want to do:
Video editing
Photoshop CS5
Light Room
Virtual machines/ dual boot linux
All modern video games
Be OC friendly (want to try to get to 4ghz on the i7 build if i go that way)
Run strong for a few years

Based on this i am leaning for the second build, but tell me what you think.

Thanks again!

If it were me, I'd go with the first option.. simply because I like the Sabertooth board, though.. and because that board has a 5 year warranty. I LOVE that case you have chosen! Wow. I don't think I've ever seen that one before. The low price on it is amazing!

I'm not seeing any reason to go X58 on that build. Grab yourself an 870, P55 sabertooth, 8-16GB of RAM, and call it a day.

Yes, the sabertooth was my first option... Then i started reading some reviews of it not having that many OC options.. But it looks pretty solid.

Yeah, i just found the case last night and thought it looked cool. And it seemed to be really reasonably priced to be made of aluminum, steel, and mesh.
