Interstate 70, crossing the Rockies. Traffic slows to a crawl. We finally see what is up, somebody decided to do a U turn from the oncoming lane and managed to somehow get both bumpers buried and no wheel contact on the median. Same day, same Interstate, same area. Again, traffic is coming to a crawl. We find out the reason. Oncoming tractor-trailer decided to dukes of hazard it in the grass median over a bridge gap. The cab made the leap of faith, the trailer was suspended nicely.

I cant stand people who will pull out and sit in the turn lane waiting for traffice to clear so that they can pull in. I had some moron do this the other day and blocked me from turning off the road. He then looked at my like I was stupid when I laid on the horn.

Ive also seen people do the same thing but instead of pulling into said turning lane, they just stop in the lane. I thought about t-boning this girl when she came to a complete stop in the left hand lane but her van looked rather beat up and I doubt she had insurance.

I have trouble visualizing this. If she had a green light and pulled into the intersection to wait for a break in on-coming traffic so she could finish turning, you should have a red light...right? I'm not sure how she's blocking you.

guy on motorcycle doing full standing wheelie at 80mph down freeway.

guy on motorcycle laying down on top of his bike fully stretched out.

chick in car with cell phone in one hand on her ear, other hand with cigarette hanging out the window, steering with just her knees.

I don't smoke and I use a Bluetooth kit in the car. Nearly all the driving I have ever done is in a manual-transmission. I almost never have the window down.

I still often find myself steering with my knees. If your legs are just the right length and the car is the right fit, it seems to come naturally.

Hands are always ready, though.

I guess I'm "that guy."

This happens to me fairly often; I don't always drive fast, so I usually sit in the right-most lane.

The other thing I notice is that if I'm the middle lane of a three-lane highway and someone comes flying up behind me, maybe 3/5 times they'll pass me on the right, even though the left lane is completely clear. Still trying to figure that one out.

This is one of my biggest peeves.

I steer with my knees while I eat ice cream. I nagivate PA backwoods roads, including a 90 degree corner, to get home like this...only when it's safe and I hold the wheel when other cars are around.

My car was rear-ended by a deaf teen driver this morning. I spoke to her dad on the phone and he said she hadn't been driving for long. I'm not sure if he said "4 days," "4 weeks."

I'm surprised to learn that deaf people are legally allowed to drive alone. Isn't it important to listen for sirens and honking horns?

I'm not sure if deafness was a factor in this accident. I know that being deaf heightens other senses. Still, an inexperienced driver in a large vehicle (Ford F150 pickup truck), processing a lot of information with fewer functioning senses is frightening. If she was my daughter, I'd make sure that she had an experienced driver as a passenger at all times until she's had years of experience. I think the law should at least require an adult passenger (to advise of alarms, honking horns, and other things).

I saw a uhaul truck have the back come open during rush hour on I-95. I was right behind it. The back door rolled up, and there was sofas/boxes/lamps and shit stacked to the ceiling of the truck. I practically shit myself. Fortunately I managed to get around the truck and communicate to the driver what had happened.

I have also seen at least 4 fatal accidents in traffic, all on I-95 around Baltimore/DC.

ugh kind of related but I hate it when people don't secure things properly in their trucks/vehicles/whatever.

You Europeans are crazy drivers. I was in Italy last summer (drove around with my cousin that lives there) and couldn't believe the way the law/people were with driving. The stories my cousin told me about the police and road rules over there were good for some lulz, though. :D

Saw a Honda Accord towing a small Uhaul trailer do a 180 and slam into a guard rail at 60-70mph.

The Uhaul trailers say max is 45 or 55mph for a reason, don't ignore them. It was not even that windy when it happened.

The car had him, his wife?, and a small child in the back yet was driving way to fast while towing.

Explain? Magic? Or someone who just doesn't know how to tow? Speed is pretty much irrelevant.

I would expect you of all people would know:

Uhaul trailer, improperly weighted
+ small, low weight vehicle
+ high speed
= shitstorm commence.

I remember when my family moved to california from colo. my dad tried, but the trailer wasn't weighted correctly, with too low relative tongue weight. With an econoline E-150 van (not a light vehicle) that was heavily packed, it still fishtailed above around 65. especially in wind.

people get going fast, fishtail, then slam on the brakes, which is also the wrong thing to do. lose control, slam into a guard rail (if lucky)

Going thru Bronx on 95 in the summer. Bunch of bikers passes us and they start doing tricks.

One guy goes to one side of his bike and stands on the messed up pavements while he rides 60-70mph.....with 100s of cars behind him.

Key here is knowing how bad the pavement is on the CoOp section of 95 bronx ......

I was hoping the guy would trip/fall down (for some weird reason).

Hah, I see those guys often during the summer. I don't mind them much and actually stuck my hand out to give one a high five when he was cutting through traffic.

I enjoy stupidity like that, but I am always conscious of staying a bit away when they act stupid at high speeds.

And all of 95 through the entire Bronx sucks.

Many years ago when my family was traveling across the state for the Christmas holiday, we came to a particularly icy patch on a moderate curve in the road. I remember watching a car that had stopped on the curve slide laterally across the remaining lanes and into the ditch due to the banking angle of the road. There was a family inside and I can still remember hearing the little girl in the back screaming.

No major damage was done, nobody was hit. They just wound up in the ditch.

I've seen the results of some pretty dump shit during my time as a newspaper photographer.

1. Scene of a fatal freeway collision. Drunk guy spins out his car in the shadow of an overpass at night. He gets out to look at the car, standing there until a semi creams him all over three lanes of the road. About an hour later the cops are cleaning up the scene and backed up traffic is slowly squeezing by on the shoulder. Everyone is stopping to look, even though a cop is standing there directing them to keep moving. About that time an old Lincoln comes idling by in line with two guys sitting on the hood of the car trying for a better look. They pass within a few feet of the amazed cop and even stop to ask him if anyone was hurt. They and driver are drunk out of their minds and all went to jail.

2. Trucker driving south on CA I-5 over The Grapevine on his way into Los Angeles area runs off the road and head-on into an embankment. They find him pinned behind the wheel of his truck with his pants around his ankle and his dick in his hand.

3. On a ride-along in a marked cruiser saw both a) driver reading a paperback while driving and b)driver tailgate us while we were already at least 5 mph over the speed limit, then pass us in the right lane.

4. Elderly lady in stopped traffic at light. She apparently let off of the brake just enough that her car, an huge automatic boat of a vehicle, starts creeping forward. She ends up pinning the leg of the motorcyclist in front of her against his bike with the front bumper of her car. The motorcyclist starts yelling. Other motorists start yelling. Grandma freaks, hits the accelerator and several witnesses claimed they actually heard the *snap* of the motorcyclist's leg.

5. Drunk guy leaves bar, looses control and flips brand new Toyota truck on the first curve he tries to negotiate. Driver flees scene and tries to call for a ride home from a pay phone, asking girlfriend to report the truck stolen. Eventually he is found hiding under a parked car and arrested. Turns out the guy is a cop who had just graduated the academy and didn't want to loose his new job.

I've done some pretty dumb shit too. I was trying to follow a high speed chase for a photo and passed a bunch of traffic that was in my way via the center divider at about 110mph in my wife's new minivan (please don't tell my wife.) I was still too slow and missed the felony stop with guns drawn by about 60 seconds.

Some asshole in a Dodge pickup (lifted of course) got impatient tonight because the woman in the SUV in front of him rolled down her window to say hi to someone she knew at a stop sign. 4 way stop, I'm coming up to the stop across from this when the fuckhead in the pickup roared around her and almost hit me head on because he was too busy flipping her off.

I would have liked to open up a can of murder on that shithead.

I'm tooling down a 4 lane city street in the left hand lane on my motorcycle. I slow down to make a left hand turn while signalling left and turn into the cutout and continue as there's no oncoming traffic. A lady in a SUV packed with kids, rockets across traffic from the facing street on the far right hand side missing my front wheel by at least 18 inches. She then comes to a screeching halt because there's a train crossing the street we both turned onto. Stopping behind her, I drop the kickstand and go up and knock on her window. She's screaming at the kids while frantically locking the doors. I took off my helmet and said, "you might want to look next time before someone ends up dead." She wouldn't look at me and I'm pretty sure she thought I meant her. :D
i got back on my bike, did a u-turn, and turned back on the road I'd gotten off of. There's no way I was staying on the same road with that crazy wench.

I saw a truck pulling a trailer with a atv in it last week, the trailer was bucking left and right so much that I was sure that it was about to flip, the towing vehicle slowed down to a point that it stopped. He probably should have been on the access road instead of the interstate if he was planning on continuing to drive 40 mph.

first hand: guy hit me going on the wrong side of the highway.

Maybe not the worst but I saw this one recently and it's pretty bad. Some guys in a truck are filming some long boarders so they decide to drive in the opposite lane in a blind turn to get a better view. A motorcycle coming up the blind turn has to swerve to miss them.

I rode GMR once. I kept asking the group if it was a one-way road because the end we started at didn't have painted lines for quite some distance, there had been no oncoming cars, and the other riders were all over the road.

Dangerous place, even the turn outs. All the dusty pebbles on the side make it almost impossible to hold your bike up at a stand-still.

I saw a old lady driving at about 70kph down the wrong side of a divided highway once.

And she wasnt even staying in a lane she was swerving all over the place making it very hard for the cars going the right way oin the highway to miss her, I was one of those people going to right way and she would have hit me had i not hit the ditch instead.

I was in my truck so all it took for me to get out of the ditch was my locking the hubs and throwing it in 4 wheel and by the time i got back onto the shoulder she had crashed about 500 feet past me taking 3 other cars out with her, 2 people ended up dieing one was her one was a single mother of 2 which she went head on with.

Some people just should not be driving.

Last summer I was walking on the sidewalk from having gone for a walk in the woods and was on the way home. I was approaching a school and was maybe 50 feet from the school zone sign. There was quite a lot of people walking as it was a nice day out. Lot of kids too running around and stuff. Then suddenly, some jackass in a sports car starts ripping through this street with squealing tires and once he got to the school zone sign he ACCELERATED even more! He must have been doing close to 100 by the time he got to the end of that stretch of road. 100 in a 40 zone would be immediate loss of license. Wish a cop had been there to see that.

I usually don't bring my phone or anything with me when I go for a walk otherwise I would have tried to get the plate number and write it down or take a pic so I can report him to the aggressive driver hot line. It's one thing when people are just retarded and don't know how to drive, but when people blatantly drive unsafe, that's not cool at all.

I had to add one more.
Father in Law and I are visiting over his fence with a neighbor. A truck approaches the intersection towing a car with a tow strap, waiting to make a left turn. The truck driver sees just enough gap for him and guns it hard!
The poor schmuck in the car can't see what's about to happen as the truck drags him right into a head on collision. this was all of 50 feet away from us. Kids :D

I was once in a car with one of the worse driver ever. Turns out...that person only has one working eye. The other is a glass eye. I didn't know one could get a license with one working eye in Wisconsin???

Drunk illegal driving the wrong way on a 3-lane one-way with no lights at 1am. I called that one in, read about the arrest in the paper the next day.

Narrowly missed t-boning a Dodge minivan that narrowly missed a Dodge diesel truck while I was making a left turn under an overpass - the minivan ran a red light to also make a left-hand turn. The Dodge diesel was flexing his micro-penis by beating my Ford off the line, if he had been just a little slower, the van would've nailed him.

Guy on the phone in a Jeep doing about 80 in a pounding rainstorm with visibility about 40 feet.

An older man in a Chevy pickup who came to an almost complete stop in the center lane of the freeway to take an exit. A truck that was behind him went left around it, but I had to go right because of another car. The guy starts moving over to exit, and I either had to exit or hit the guy - so I exited.

And the last one I can remember right now, some shitbird in a massive Dodge diesel towing a 40ft flatbed trailer ran me off the road, literally. I had to jump the curb to get away from him. A car in the left land stopped to turn left instead of going in the turn lane, I was in the right lane, and the Dodge driver slammed on the brakes, then slammed on the gas and swerved into my lane, right as I came even with the tires on his trailer. Oh, that son of a bitch was lucky I didn't have my gun in the truck that day.

Was driving a delivery truck for a small restaurant chain, coming back from Vero bch FL, between that exit and Melbourne there's like a no-mans land, no exits or lights for 30 miles or so, one night some folks decided to set alight a VW bus there, I could see the glow for miles before I got there, it was burning from one end to the other while about a dozen people stood around and took photo's of it's demise, I'm thinking this was a sacrilegious event rather than having it crushed at the bone-yard...
