Stupidest/Most dangerous thing you've seen on the road?

I was running some errands today, driving through a relatively large town during rush hour. The interstate I was on had the 2 lanes + turn lane between exits.

I was in the left hand lane since my exit wasn't for a couple of miles when I saw a car in the center lane hit its brakes. The cars behind it slowed but the first car kept slowing until it had come to a complete stop about ten yards before an exit. Their turn signal was on - apparently the driver had decided that instead of just driving one mile to the next exit that they needed to come to a complete stop in the center lane of an interstate, with heavy traffic, and wait for the right turn lane to clear.

This area isn't constant gridlock like some stretches of interstate are - the common speed is usually about 75mph. I was absolutely astonished that there wasn't a multi-car collision filled with fire and death. If there had been a truck in the center lane then there is no way it would've been able to stop in time.

So what's the dumbest fucking thing you've seen another driver do?

Guy driving a 19 ft straight box truck with a car inside of the box, door open as the car hung a bit off the back. While towing another 19 ft box truck with a pickup truck in the box of that truck, hanging out the back .This was on I 75 near Atlanta, not in Haiti.

Dude riding down the road on a motorcycle, with a big ass golden retriever on the bike behind him. He looked to be strapped in with some bungie cords or something.

I've seen people backing up on exit ramps, apparently deciding they didn't want that exit.

Seen someone stop in the curb lane of a 6-lane road with a 40mph limit and put on their flashers to look at a map. They could have pulled off into one of the dozens of stores/shopping centers/restaurants, but I guess they found that inconvenient.

The thing that has been grinding my gears the most is that people do not seem to know how to turn their steering wheel. I dare not pull all the way up to an intersection any more because people on the cross street turning towards me want to do it at 30mph and a 45 degree angle. I just want to pull up to where I can see traffic in both directions. If that means you have to actually slow down to 10 or 15 and turn at a 90 degree angle, boo hoo.

Going thru Bronx on 95 in the summer. Bunch of bikers passes us and they start doing tricks.

One guy goes to one side of his bike and stands on the messed up pavements while he rides 60-70mph.....with 100s of cars behind him.

Key here is knowing how bad the pavement is on the CoOp section of 95 bronx ......

I was hoping the guy would trip/fall down (for some weird reason).

Yes, everyone clips apexes now. No one wants to actually make a proper turn. They drive like they are at Laguna Seca.

They get mad if you are pulled up to the white line and they can't clip the apex.

It's way too much trouble to do it properly on the street.

A couple of days ago, I saw a bunch of teenagers packed in the back of a pickup truck driven by another teenager, all screaming and yelling. Every time there is a ball game between two rival high schools here, kids act stupid. Accident waiting to happen right there.

people who come to a complete stop on an entrance ramp. This happens about once a week on my way to work.

I was out with my girlfriend one weekend and some guy in a wrecked Honda Civic comes flying out of a parking lot, crossed the road, and crashed into a high curb in the opposing lane of traffic. Not sure WTF he was on, but it was a little scary. There was a person behind us that picked up their phone, guessing that they dialed 911.

young guy got so close to me I could not even guess the distance. I got him around me, and he attached to a 10 wheel dump truck at freeway speed. I got a good look then and estimate the distance at ~2'. They exited in formation like this, and he was centered so the driver could not see him at all. I don't think it was drafting per se, just lunacy.

The on ramp near my house has a yield sign that is only heeded by like 1 in 10 motorists. I see a lot of near collisions there as cars go hurling at each other and can't seem to realize they are on a collision course until the last moments.

I cant stand people who will pull out and sit in the turn lane waiting for traffice to clear so that they can pull in. I had some moron do this the other day and blocked me from turning off the road. He then looked at my like I was stupid when I laid on the horn.

Ive also seen people do the same thing but instead of pulling into said turning lane, they just stop in the lane. I thought about t-boning this girl when she came to a complete stop in the left hand lane but her van looked rather beat up and I doubt she had insurance.

In America, I was driving on a short freeway where people often go under the speed limit (I don't blame them it's sort of narrow and feels like the other roads in town so it always feels weird to go 60, but I do anyway). It's a junction so lots of lane changes in the short distance.

I'm driving my pickup and check if it's clear before going to the left lane. Clear, eyes back on the road as I turn to get in the left lane.

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZWAM! Motorcycle goes past me at at least 90, maybe 100+mph, swerving right back into the right lane. As I hear the sound I was just starting the turn and had to cut back.

The guy would've rammed into the back of my truck and flown a hundred feet down the highway dead on impact. That was 7 years ago I'd be surprised if he was alive today.

I've also seen the stop in the middle of the highway routine. And lots of crazier stuff around the world

As many above have seen, a lot of motorcyclists doing crazy stuff:

* Guy doing 90 mph, standing on the seat of his motorcycle as if he was at the bow of the Titanic, with his arms out.
* Guy doing about 95 mph on his motorcycle, doing a wheelie, on the shoulder (which is typically covered with broken glass / refuse) during lots of traffic.

In terms of regular vehicles, a couple years ago I'm going on the highway about 65 mph and some idiot comes up the entrance ramp and turns the wrong way, into oncoming traffic! It was a big white Escalade, a monster of an SUV. I literally dodged it by about 3 inches (thank you video game reflexes!)

If we introduced boats to the conversation we'd get just as good of stories I'm sure. This last summer some huge yacht came a foot or so from demolishing our boat full of 4-5 people, captain had his head turned, hands off the wheel in fuller conversation with people in the back and had to be yelled at at the last minute, swing the wheel and dodge us. Actually IIRC we actually had to push off as the bow passed by.

Some struck with a trailer missed their exit so they cam to a complete stop and BACKED UP on the freeway. I was behind a semi truck which swerved out of the way (almost tipping over) which suddenly revealed the vehicle backing up. I had to swerve onto the shoulder to avoid it.

The funny (or not so funny) thing about the motorcyclists in my area doing crazy stunts is that I heard secondhand about some of them winding up in the hospital from a friend of mine. One of them apparently had his bike swerve and ended up flying into the shoulder of the road at 90 mph; imagine all the broken glass and other garbage people toss out their window flying in your face at 90 mph.

For a few months I was seeing them around constantly, now haven't seen one of them in over a year.

Saw two cars traveling perpendicular to each other both ran their stop sign at about 10-15MPH. They crashed perfectly at the front corners. Then both off them took off. It was hilarious.
