When brxndxn confronted me I would have told him to get back in the car and call dispatch in the morning. When he refused and became belligerent I would have pepper sprayed him and handcuffed him. I would have then taken him to the station and arrested him for disorderly conduct, public intox, refusal to obey a peace officer, resisting arrest, and harassment. I guarantee the DA would have pressed charges on every count. I then would have the DA's office lobbed by the Police Officer's Union and the FOP to NOT plea bargain. a few felonies and a few years in prison would not look good. Then again, I will admit I would have been an asshole, but brxndxn was one first. Never be an asshole to a cop. You always lose. It may not always be right or deserving of the person, but every action has a reaction. It is the simple truth when dealing with someone who has a high stress job and is used to getting attacked by the public. How many drunk and disorderlies has that officer already answered that night? How many people give him lip and try to get him fired over him DOING his JOB? People hate the police, so why can't the police do the same in kind? It isn't right but they are HUMAN just like everyone else. Sure, they are held to a higher standard, but HOW high?
Once you're in court, the judge will almost always give the police officer the benefit of the doubt, regardless of whether or not he trumped up the speed. The burdon of innocence is on you. You must prove that you weren't speeding.Originally posted by: xirtam
It's the question you should be asking yourself. Sometimes you can do something wrong or have something wrong with your car without knowing it. The cop will ask you if you know why he pulled you over. If you don't know, then you can say that then. IMO there would have been no abuse of power if the attitude was passive and accepting to begin with. If the cop truly stopped you for no reason, you can file a complaint. But let the cop make that evident first to you so that you can make it evident to the court. As it stands, your record in the situation sucks. Oh, and arguing about the speed with the officer is never a wise idea. The cop's not there to pronounce judgment -- only to bring you to someone who can decide the just way of dealing with a possible infraction. Don't add fuel to the fire.

The most maddening part is the blue wall. People always point out that most cops are good. I can agree with that. Most of them don't shoot innocent people and aren't blatantly racist. However, as you admitted, if you file a complaint against a bad cop there will be retaliation by the other cops. The same way a person can be an accessory after the fact, police who refuse to speak out about the abuses they see or who retaliate against complaint filers, are complicit in the original abuse. If most police really are good, and want to be recognized as such, they need to help kick the bad ones out of the department. Instead they cover it up and let the bad ones keep going out on patrol and represent them.
Very good. Finally someone who has some sense. Most cops are good but its the covering your partners ass that has to go. Thats what makes almost all cops bad in my book because they won't be truthful about their partners/friends.
Anyone remember the instance when the family dog was
shot dead right on the highway. Poor dog.

People hate car salemen too and give them lip and try to get them fired for doing their job, but a car salesmen doesn't have the luxury of killing people or putting them in jail for years as petty revenge. What comes around goes around, pal. If not in this life, then the next, you fvckin' POS. :|
Nice try, Viper, but you're being obtuse. Read Millenium's post again. He wasn't talking about being "attacked." He was talking about what he would do to someone like brxndxn just for talking sh!t, and that is everything I dislike about cops. If someone talks a little trash to a car saleman, does the salesman have the luxury of petty revenge by putting that sh!t-talker in jail for years? Or even being able to rough 'em up?Originally posted by: Viper GTS

I agree, arguing with the cops usually won't get you anywhere, but relying soley on the judge to dismiss the ticket is equally stupid.

That's part of the job description of being a cop. Dealing with criminals. If you can't restrict your anger to criminals, you should find another job. If you are being attacked by a belligerent drunk, you follow the process you're trained with.
What bothers me is that people with the mindset that Millenium expressed above actually are cops. He might be one too, but I sure hope not. The attitude he expressed is "Even if I did stop you for no reason, if you disagree with me and make me really not like you, I'm going to abuse my power and pull strings and connections, and basically do everything I can to ruin your life. Therefore, because you know I have this power, and I'm willing to use it for personal vandettas, you better do everything I say." No cop who thinks and acts like this is deserving of respect. The only thing a cop should be concerned with is how to handle a crime and protecting people. Not taking a guy whose action was not getting back into his car, and putting him in jail for years. That's not serving the community, it's serving yourself.

20.... speeding ticket for going 87mph in a 62mph zone. $220, 3pts. My speedometer indicated more like 80mph. The cop paced me from behind.. I thought it was some fvcker tailgating me. Ah well, I sort of deserve that one for not paying more attention to what was behind me. I contested anyways since what I was doing still wasn't dangerous IMO. I haven't gotten a court date yet, even though the ticket was in october.
20.... speeding ticket for going 75mph in a 44mph zone. $350, 5pts. Now this ticket was total and complete bullsh!t. This 44mph zone is a damn freeway, why they mark it at 44mph here is probably for revenue generation but since it's a freeway everyone goes at least 65mph. They had a gigantic radar trap with over 15 cruisers and cops standing in the middle of the highway pulling over dozens by the minute. You can be sure I contested that one too, and my hearing is in december.
20.... jaywalking ticket for crossing the intersection when the light was green for me but the pedestrian signal was red.

Contest what? You did 31 over the limit. STFU and pay the ticket.
This is fine advice if you actually did something wrong. That doesn't apply to cases where you know they just didn't like the look of you and decided that messing with you is something that they can get away with.
