Getting out of the car can be interpreted by a police officer as a hostile act. You can argue just as easily from inside your car.

If you were a cop and you saw a drunk, pissed off kid with a bad attitude walking out of a car would you not see that as a threat?
brxndxn had every right to ask for the cop's ID information. Cop's can be real jerks. I've met some really nice cops, and I met some really nasty cops. I think many of them get off on the power trip, which is really a shame. Good luck brxndxn.

Well, it's not like all cops are saints...I can't tell you how many times I've been pulled over cuz I'm asian, drive with the top down, and have friends who like to wear wife beaters and chains. I've been abused by these cops too being patted down roughly, forced to lie on the ground, verbally threatened. I've actually gotten apologies from the local police dept once I sicked the Bd of Ed and PTA on them. Then they have the nerve to ask me to contribute to the PBA. Bah!

I wholeheartedly agree with you that the cops treated you like crap, and you should complain to them. But getting out of the car was a dumbfvck move. You know, to be frank your whole attitude pisses me off. Any sympathy I MIGHT have had for you has certainly been tested in the attitude you've taken.
Why in the fvck did you get out of the car? That made everything he did justified. NEVER AND I MEAN NEVER get out of the fvcking car. Also, keep your goddamn mouth shut when he is talking to your friend. If he wanted to talk to YOU he would have ASKED you. He didn't, so shut the fvck up. When I say justified... he probably felt you were about to harm him. What he did was WRONG and out of line IF and only if your side is the actual true side of what happened. If so, then I would file a complaint, but now you have fvcked yourself by getting out of the car. He was out of line and you were out of line. Why not get the car # off the side of the car? You confronted him and almost got your ass beat. You need to learn how to manage situations because you went about it the wrong way. File a complaint but you will face retaliation whether you like it or not. The thin blue line is NOT something you want to face. I am not trying to be an asshole, but rather give you a STRONG dose of reality. You erred in this encounter and so did the police officer. Your behavior led to his, and you were both wrong. Also, NEVER ask for the badge number. Ask that a supervisor come to the scene, get the car # and tag or drive the local station. What you did endanger both you and the officer and led to you being physically restrained.

Only if his civil rights were violated or if there is public corruption. Otherwise, the FBI has 0 jurisdiction unless the Justice Department is investigating. The better thing to do is contact the State AG and the Justice Department. The FBI is just a tool of the JD.

Similar thing happened to me once. I was just arriving to a party and the cops were
already called there for loud music. Well I pulled up the same time as another guy and he squealed his tires, parked, and ran inside. I continued to park and go about my business but then cops walk from the back of the apt building and started accusing me of squealing my tires. I tried being nice and explaining it wasn't me. Then they called me a liar and said they saw me. Thats when I flipped out and lost all respect. In the end they won and I had to pay a $105 ticket even though I had a witness.

No one here is supporting police brutality. No one here is saying the cop was justified in pushing him around. All anyone is saying is that its stupid & illegal to get out of the car. Which it is.
