Please at LEAST be informed before you post. A speeding ticket and a public confrontation have very little to do with Ashcroft or Tom Ridge. Please. This kind of stuff was the same when Clinton was in office and before 9-11 happened. This a local affair that has nothing to do with anything on the national level, except that police officers and public safety are not rewarded or respected.

Yes yes. Your reward for driving down the street is getting harassed and abused. Now why don't you respect police officers?

It, somehow, reminds me of what happened between America, and Iriq.
Well, I'm sure Hussein isn't filing any complaints.

I have to wonder if this would have happened at all if brxndxn had chimed in.
$10 says the cop would have ran her info, come up clean and given her a warning. 15 min. wasted, no hostile confrontation, and brxndxn wouldn't have gotten a tipper to his nutsack.

OK, a little common sense.

1) Of course they can pull you over for whatever reason an officer sees. Anything.
2) You were drinking and the officers could here it in your voice and smell it. You are immediately a threat.
3) Your dumbass got out of the car
4) Your dumbass actually got out of the car and approached the officer during a traffic stop

You have no grounds whatsoever for a complaint.

Sounds like you met a couple of bad apples, although I think you handled the situation wrong. From the start.

First, if a cop pulls you over, he's going to make the rules. He's going to be on the offensive. Putting him on the defensive with a "Why are you pulling me over?" is just going to make the situation worse. "At first this was nothing, but now you've made it something" is exactly right. You could have left it at nothing by being more verbally cooperative, i.e., answering the questions, and not asking them.

For as many times as I've been pulled over, I've never once had as bad of an experience as you have. But then again, I always stayed inside my car until told to get out, and I let the cops talk to themselves, because they like to hear themselves speak. The less you say, the less of an impression they will have of you. The less of an impression they have of you, the less memory they have of you. The less memory they have of you, the more likely they are to forget the incident. The more likely they are to remember the specifics of the incident, the better your chances in court.

Take the lesson, take the hit, file the complaint if you want to because they could have handled it better... but so could you.

File a complaint. I was pulled over by GPD once -- they let me go..one officer was cool, but the other was a total jerk.

Y'know, I find it funny to see a sentiment like this stated here, yet how many threads have there been where people argue "Why'd you tell on that guy? No one likes a rat, it's not your job to be the (speed, noise, whatever) police. etc. etc." Talk about a double standard.

And to go back to the original post, why didn't you have the girl who was driving ask for the name and badge number? She was the one directly dealing with him.

Having been a cop in the air force for 10 years I will say this.

If I had pulled you over and heard you the passenger chime in and start an argument with me, then get out of the car and come towards me obviously pissed and intoxicated, I would have thrown you on the trunk and searched you as well and might have even arrested you for disorderly conduct. As far as him touching your nuts to hard, he didnt cause any damage or rupure a nut, he sent two message to you and that is "1. I am not playing with you and if you continue im not afraid to take you down. 2. Im the one in charge here not you"

my advice to you is, when a passenger in a vehicle and you get pulled over keep your mouth shut unless the officer ask you a question. Until he does the conversation is between the Officer and the Driver. 9 times out of 10 when the passenger starts up there is a problem that escliated rather quickly. or both are trying to hide something.

Arguing with the Police during a traffic stop when you are a passenger in the car is extremely stupid. You are lucky you didn't end up in jail.

This is fine advice if you actually did something wrong. That doesn't apply to cases where you know they just didn't like the look of you and decided that messing with you is something that they can get away with. In that case, you don't care if they have an impression of you, and "why did you pull me over" is exactly the question that you should be asking. Being passive and accepting their abuse of power only allows them to continue their actions without fear.

I agree the original poster shouldn't have gotten out of the car for reasons of his personal safety. They didn't seriously think he was a threat from what they said, but if they had beat him and claimed so later, no one who wasn't there could have argued otherwise. But the fact that there is so much room for corruption, is exactly why I like that he didn't just let it go. If everyone who was stopped for no reason filed a complaint, there would actually be some hope to stop that behavior.

Your complaint won't do much good anymore. You should have gone straight to the police station and made a huge deal out of it. They would have taken it very seriously since you felt it was necessary to go straight there. Now they will think you are just a complainer and will probably just mention it to the cop and nothing will happen. They will rationalize this by saying that if you were really violated, you would have came forward earlier. Good luck, though.

Do you have any evidence at all to back up your statements?

Yeah actually I read it everyday in the paper/online/news.

Maybe you should scroll up and read about the Tacoma Police chief. He was accused of rape and his fellow officers believed he was guilty. BUT it was swept under the rug along
with his other wrong doings. This is just one of MANY MANY instances.

If other police officers just spend time covering up bullshit is that really the "protect and serve" that our taxes pay for. The chief from Tacoma NEVER should've been a chief and his wife NEVER should have been shot down in front of their kids. Now not only are two people dead but these kids are very traumatized. Now had the truth been exposed this wouldn't be an issue today.

They need to be held accountable for their actions just like the rest of us. That's all
I am saying.

Ahh, what a lovely thread.

brxndxn, you're a dumbass.

Getting out of the car to confront an officer is a good way to get your ass shot.

People who are respectful & handle themselves intelligently don't have problems when they are stopped. People like you stand an excellent chance of ending up dead.

Cops here in Portland shot some dumb bitch a week ago during a traffic stop. They were arresting the driver, & she decided to jump from the back seat to the front & drive away... She truggled with the cop who tried to stop her, he ended up shooting her. She died because she was a dumbass.

You're a dumbass too, do you see a connection?

You should file a complaint and then sue them.

Well, you should not have come out of your car. The cops might use it as evidence against you. :(

Ah profiling... Yoda for racial... and also profiling based on what you drive.

There's a reason why NJ has a law in the books against at least racial profiling. And despite that, there's always those cops out there that are complete fscktards on a power trip.

/me also gets harrassed from time to time by cops for no reason. Only traffic violation ever was a pissant cop who threatened me, gave me a hard time, and also trumped up my speed. Next time I know to ask to see the gun.

Well I actually live in the area can say for a fact Tampa cops have had some problems lately, especially since we got a new mayor. the old mayor was chairman of the good-ol-boy network of florida crackers. But still you shouldn't have gotten out of the car that just gives them an excuse to act. it doesn't matter if your actions were legal or not.

It's the question you should be asking yourself. Sometimes you can do something wrong or have something wrong with your car without knowing it. The cop will ask you if you know why he pulled you over. If you don't know, then you can say that then. IMO there would have been no abuse of power if the attitude was passive and accepting to begin with. If the cop truly stopped you for no reason, you can file a complaint. But let the cop make that evident first to you so that you can make it evident to the court. As it stands, your record in the situation sucks. Oh, and arguing about the speed with the officer is never a wise idea. The cop's not there to pronounce judgment -- only to bring you to someone who can decide the just way of dealing with a possible infraction. Don't add fuel to the fire.
