There is nothing logical about sending away a productive member of society actually working for a future here (unlike 99% of natives here sitting on their asses writing on forums wasting time) and I see no logic in the current immigration law, so yes. You would be correct.

Deport whiners first.
Correct, that is what the immigration process is all about. She was a student, not a productive member of society.

The logic comes from the amount of money it costs to put up the free-loaders. They don't pay income tax, Many are uninsured costing bucko bucks if they ever get in car accident, Many are on medicaid. Their kids use public schools which costs money that they aren't paying.

Get the picture? Yes, they harvest tomatoes at a discount price, thats great, but the net result is that they are a burden on every tax payer in the US. They don't pull their own weight.

That is why I say deport them if they aren't here legally. Once they are in the system and paying their fair share, I openly welcome them.

Exactly! But I do think some exception should be made for high earners and owners of very successful businesses. These people might actually contribute to the economy and create much needed jobs. Everyone else should be sent back to their country of origin.

That would be you :p

A: She broke the law and she decided she would not only jump to the front of the line but would just skip it entirely.

B: See A

Know who I feel sorry for? A young lady who is here LEGALLY, who attended nursing school and is now a med student. When she graduates she will take that knowledge, and return to her poor Caribbean island and teach and treat others and get shit in pay as a financial incentive.

While the person who is the subject of the article gets her fifteen undeserved minutes, the second has a problem because someone gave her case two numbers. That technicality has cost her thousands of dollars in legal fees and they still won't fix it. She cannot leave this country for any reason because she will be denied entry.

Some "special" person who commits an illegal act? Oh my sending a productive citizen away! Well, no she's not that.

The second? The government people are so sure can handle health care can't merge two numbers to make the life of someone who will do more good that virtually anyone here is being screwed. Where's CNN here?

Up the illegals ass.

Like I offered earlier, it's posturing by Cobb County, plain and simple.

What part of "ICE is the higher authority." wrt immigration status do the usual ravers here fail to understand?

ICE released her on bond. They have the authority to do so. Cobb Country trumps up a felony charge to put her back in jail, that being presenting an expired registration with an old address as "giving a false address." Had they treated a citizen that way, the same people would be raving about Obama's police state.

The rest of it is *completely immaterial.*

So she is doing well in school and we will let her stay?

Why not let smart students from Asia do that too? We all know millions (note the plural) will make all A's to go to school in the US with taxpayers paying for the scholarships. Why not, ILLEGALS lovers/advocates?

BTW, she also LIED/made fault statements to the cops too, besides being ILLEGALLY and made traffic violations.

Colotl was released from jail about 11:40 a.m. Friday. Cobb County Sheriff Neil Warren secured a warrant Wednesday night to arrest Colotl, 21, on a felony charge alleging she made a false statement about her address on a jail booking form. A KSU officer had arrested Colotl in March on a charge of driving without a license.
http://www.ajc.com/news/illegal-immigrant-ksu-student-526742.html

So no license, probably no insurance or registration and more. What other laws she is broken too?

Oh, I forgot, it is NOT her fault, damm RACIST cops and/or it is Bush and Republicans fault, how dare they expect her to follow the laws of the USA. Follow the laws are for chumps/losers.

I would like for people that support her to sneak in a country ILLIGALLY, any countries, then drive around without license/registration and then make fault statements to the cops, and then expect free/reduce college tuition and then demand to become a legal resident and then citizen. Well, what say you?

I don't see the story here. Maybe maybe if she was here since she was 11 or something she would be more sympathetic. Deport her.

Oh yeah, great job Georgia, you really showed that evil invader University student.

She took loans and grants from students who are not committing crimes and abide by the rules. If you hate the idea so much, why don't YOU fund her schooling instead of everyone else having to shoulder the burden?

That sucks.

But since she had a passport, it sounds like she was brought here legally but overstayed, so she can still apply for permanent residence. If she marries a U.S. citizen it will take less than a year. Not suggesting anything dishonest, but hope is not lost, she will at least be able to finish her studies and come back home later.

"It is obvious from all the documents that I've seen that she has done nothing wrong and has given her proper address to Cobb County and immigration officials," said Chris Taylor, Colotl's criminal attorney. "There has been no crime committed."

I can think of 2 things that she did wrong.

1) Being an illegal immigrant
2) Driving without a license

The car's registration simply reflected her old address, Taylor said in an interview, and she provided her new address when she was taken into custody. Taylor said he has the documents to prove this and looks forward to clearing her name.

What I want to know is how she was able to register a car without
1) Being in the country legally
2) Not having a drivers license

So is there a P&N'r from Atlanta running over there to marry her and save her?

Care to substantiate that? Loans and grants?

Probably not...

I feel sorry for her and think this is the kind of case that shows we need a path to legal status... But I don't understand the attitude from the girl, her lawyer, and the activists that she deserves to be allowed to be an illegal immigrant. This is the kind of stuff that turns off reasonable people who would otherwise say "OK, they're breaking the law but we should show some compassion and forgive them after they pay a fine and let them start a legal residency process".

Have we, as a country, given anyone a reason to NOT feel a sense of entitlement?

They should make her pay for her full tuition back if somehow she gets to stay in the USA.

Seems like the reasonable "you got to pay for what you don't own" response to me.

When you lie to escape prosecution that in itself is a crime. It is also a legal requirement for you to give your correct address for a valid driver's License.

I'm surprised no one jumped on this tidbit yet:

Mary Bauer, legal director of the Southern Poverty Law Center, said it "leads to racial profiling, distracts police from looking for real criminals and destroys families."

So.... don't look for illegal Mexican immigrants that look Mexican. That would be racial profiling. Don't look for illegal Mexican immigrants.... because they're not criminals. And they might have a family that's here illegally too, and you might destroy their family.

These people (and I'm talking about Mary, the American legal director) don't give a shit about the law. They have their opinion of what is right, and they're going to ignore the actual LAW in favor of their skewed viewpoint.

Pretty messed up if you ask me.

Twits respond who haven't even read the article... but they love to rave about illegal immigrants.

She's lived in this country since she was 11 years old. It's not like she had a choice to come here or not. She's been raised American, like a lot of other people, even American citizens who aren't yet 18 and get deported with their parents.

Illegals are just the latest rightwing whipping boy or girl. It's all their fault, everything that's wrong with this country, obviously. Why, if we just threw 'em all out, everything would just be hunky-dory, and we could just go back to believing the same lies that have damaged the social fabric and the economy. Except that it won't work- so you'll need a new target, somebody else to vent your rage and frustration upon. Wash, rinse and repeat in that patented way that only Righties can fail to see as circular logic...

What if y'all were to put the blame where it belongs, on yourselves, for being chumped over and over again by the politicians and pundits of the Right? Having your heads explode is just a figure of speech, after all... The ones who don't go permanently catatonic will recover, in time...
