when you guys say serra, do you mean matt serra? why the hell would he be better than gsp or even shields?

It's called MMA math, the ridiculous shit people use to say that X fighter is better than Y because they beat people who eventually beat Y fighter

i HATE mma math. its fucking silly.

you can compare and get a good idea of what can happen. but to say fighter X is better then fighter B because of it is silly.

Fedor rarely looked to be the elite fighter he is. He is strong, fast and has a ton of skill.

now? he really looks out of shape and far to slow. but he still has that skill and power.

was this fight stoped to early? yeah maybe. but i don't blame the ref he was out. but snapped back fast.

I don't know man, I read he stop lifting weights. As Ahnold would quip "Big mistake!"

Mauro said something like "This is the best shape I've ever seen him in!" While his gut was flapping around obscuring his shorts. He has always had a tire, but it used to be fairly inflated, now it is saggy. His upper body is less muscular than the prime Fedor, and his traps are almost completely gone.

QFT

Fedor's undergoing what has happened to many elite fighters...the spoils of success:

1.) The media "Fedor is God" print, which affects his mind/ego.
2.) The babes, which affect his mind/ego.
3.) Wealth, which affects his hunger/desire to WIN.
4.) Concussions/wear & tear, which happen to all aging fighters. The more hits to the dome, the less resistant you become to withstand the next assault.
5.) Training. That flabby belly shouldn't be there. If he was hungry, he'd trim/tone/build upon his husky build.
6.) Mind. He's a pensive guy. He's more philosophic than your average fighter. His body language/expressions/subtext talks is like "WTF am I doing this for?" He looks like in limbo on what to do with his life....what does a fighter do after retirement even though he can still whoop ass?...well continue fighting then.
7.) Competition. It's getting better. The guys train better and are more up on techniques to defend against Fedoresque onslaughts.

i just watch the replay, he was stunned. you never know, you really never know. alot of people have survived situations like that.

Yeah, look at Congo's last fight... I thought he was done for and came back...

no kidding - I was shocked the ref didn't stop that one, but Congo did keep moving! I was glad to see Pat Barry drop like a bag of rocks.

Mma is nothing more than a niche sport. They have too many greedy people at the top for it to become anymore than that. UFC wants $50 an event and out of the last year there's been maybe a handful of good fights. I quit watching a long time ago because I can't afford $50 for each one. Once you quit watching something you become even more detached and now I'm to the point I could give a shit less what happens. Now if they were $12.99 a ppv then I'd more than likely still be watching and I'm sure others would be too. Hell run commercials in between rounds. Make it more available to the common Joe.

They calculated greater revenue streams at $50 a pop x less people than $12.99 a pop x more people. I doubt you'd get an additional 4 folks buying. The big money, anyway, is with bars and places to show it. Which is where you should watch instead of paying $50. Duh.

I think Herb should have let it go a little longer. Fedor has taken some wicked shots....Fujita anyone? He took a GD Randleplex on his neck and still recovered. I think Fedor has fought long enough that he's earned the right to try and recover. 95% sure it would have resulted in 5 more Hendo shots on a dezed Fedor, but at least let the guy try to get out of the position. He took a 4 1/2 minute pounding from 285 pound man and recovered.

Fedor was clearly the best of the best in the 2000 decade. He is clearly not the best anymore. Whether he's losing his chin or just stuck in his old training ways I'm not sure. Either way I'm a Fedor fan for life and will always be. Same with Big Nog, Wanderlei, and Franklin.

Fedor got cut from Strikeforce today. Looks like his career is over. Could be a power play from Zuffa to have Fedor cut out M1.

All the Golden Glory fighters were also cut: Coenen, Oldereem, Einemo

Ya, it's really weird. Only Sergei is left from Golden Glory. If he loses to Barnett, he'll probably be cut too. I wonder if they'll just scrap the whole "HW Tourny". I mean Fedor, Werdum, and Overeem and all gone. Plus Arlovski is/was a decent draw yet and he's out. Nobody really cares that much about Barnett, Sergei, Bigfoot, and Cormier (an alternate) at this point. I can't stand Barnett and I hope Sergei puts the hurt on him.

It almost seems like they are in fact phasing out Strikeforce.

MMA Junkie is saying that Dana is already talking about bringing hendo back to the UFC if the can work the deal. I think if they do that, that's the nail in the coffin for strikeforce.

IMHO the tourny was a joke from the get go.
