Not sure I am a fan of Ken's look but I kind of figured he would be featured in the game.

i think he looks awesome. looks WWAAYYY different than just a ryu clone.

his actual look like his face though looks a bit odd in the closeups, but i think the in game stuff looks awesome. i love his v-skill with that run forward. he's going to be extremely pressure heavy.

Probably be good for aggressive players. Too bad Ken won't be part of the beta at least not that we know of.

I do like the longer hair though.

I like his gameplay (and that he didn't lose his step kick!). His damage output looks pretty good and if he keeps having good buttons like in Ultra, I might have to play him.

As far as actual look of the character, I hate it. His hair looks ridiculous.

Also they have a rundown of the vtrigger system on the shoryuken link you posted and for Ryu pressing mp+mk will give you the ability to parry just like 3rd strike for a time. You can recreate the famous EVO full parry of Chun-Li's kicks.

Except, Daigo was being a tier whore and playing Ken. =)

Right but what I mean is the system in SF5 when you use the VTrigger acts exactly the same as SF3's Parry when playing as Ryu in SF5. That can be advantageous to someone who can take advantage of it to really punish an opponent.
in preparation of the beta next week, i made a app for sf5. it's free on both android and ios. going to keep updating it up through the games full release.

more info about it posted here, including links to it in the respected stores. if you grab it, gimmie a 5 star rating, thanks!

Grabbed it Thanks!

I will need to see more of it in action before I determine exactly how useful it is. It likely has a recovery when activated and is timed. It would be trivial to simply avoid it while Ryu has it active.

And since most Ultras are done either as punishes on reaction, in combos, or as a timer scam, the chances of you actually being able to activate and punish are unlikely. In fact, the EVO moment was only because Justin had Daigo in the corner and went for the Chun super to chip him out. Unfortunately for him, Daigo had other plans.

The fact that they said you can recreate that moment is very telling. They specifically asked about it and were told yes.

The problem isn't that you "can recreate it", it is that if it is in fact something you can do in a real match.

Like I said, unless activating VTrigger is a roman cancel or something similar, it will have start up frames and recovery frames. So, VTriggering on reaction and parrying a super, while technically doable, is simply not going happen in a match. Even if you activate VTRigger and hope the opponent goes in (which, why would they, knowing you can parry?). It might be something worthwhile if you're winning and time is running down. Activate and have some extra defensive capability to close out the match.

Well we don't know how it works in practice but I can imagine someone being able to really take advantage of that ability.

Ryus parry is not his v trigger it's his v skill. His v trigger is that electrical thing.

Get my free app, it even explains the difference :p

I downloaded it yesterday, but probably won't really give it a solid try until saturday when I can dedicate a bit of time. I could do a few matches today and tomorrow and I still may give it a try tonight to give my initial impressions. I just prefer to be able to have some time to spend on it giving it a real feeling out.

Servers are hammered with people trying to get in. The game starts and sits at a black screen for like 10-20 seconds. I thought it froze. Then the SF5 logo comes up and says press any key, then it says it's logging in. Then that goes away and it sits at the "press any key" screen for a couple minutes before telling me it's unable to log in to the game server. Apparently this is really widespread. I'm not surprised, probably limited server capacity for the beta and a big demand right now. I tried this a few times but it takes a few minutes between attempts so I'm just going to give up for now and try again tomorrow. I just hope it's not like this the entire time and I never get in at all.

If anyone gets in I'm interested to know your first impressions of the netcode.

i got into the training room for a bit but had to run to the store. to be honest it's hard for me to really make an opinion playing this game with the controller against a dummy in training mode lol. but i was ryu and i mean it felt/looked quite a bit like SF4 just in the 5 minute training mode, but i know it's different.

i definitely did notice that the push back on moves is A LOT more than sf4 which is good so you can't do 5 jabs in a row and connect them. after like 2 they start to whiff.

also the graphics didn't look THAT much better until i started looking a bit more at the details, then they really started to stand out a bit.

eh, while it sucks, it's a good thing IMO. it means what they were expecting to happen didn't happen so they can now fix it. hopefully with these betas we won't have a Drive Club or MCC debacle. imagine if this was launch day...

Well that sucks but I kind of expected it not to work properly off the bat. So I guess I'll wait until round 2 lol

True enough. Bungie did the same thing with the Destiny alpha and beta. They went so far as to start unplugging servers to make sure their backup servers handled the traffic too. Some people got disconnected but you could usually get back in which was what they wanted to achieve.

Online games are finicky sometimes. Especially untested ones, I've been part of betas where I couldn't t log in for the entire time. I remember trying to play SOCOM on PS2 with the beta network adapter and it wouldn't connect at all. The whole 2-3 months it just didn't work for me.

I read that the servers are down for maintenance until 11AM PST today and people have been able to get in last night as well. It's getting better

just got one game in online. netcode was pretty good but it's hard to tell since everything feels so odd with a pad lol. just waiting in training mode now.
