yeah it is at times tough to do those movements with gamepads with shitty dpads. might be just wiser to play with guile or characters that don't require any 1/4 or 1/2 circle movement for a move, charged moves are much easier with these gamepads.

That sounds like a much better option even though I'm horrible at DIY stuff.

for me its the complete opposite, its easy for me to pull those moves off on a ps2 controller and damn near impossible for me to do them on an arcade stick

Amusingly, I play with a PS1 control pad, and find the fireballs and dragon punches, even the doubles, fairly easy. Can't pull off one of those double charge moves to save my life though.

The problem with Seth online isn't that he has the lowest Stam while being a huge target. It's just all the moves he has and that need to be used efficiently to survive. When you play the computer, he will do lots of very quick teleports->combos. These kind of moves are actually pretty difficult to pull off for a real player, and once you slow his moves down you get an easy target.

i find it extremely difficult to do back->forward (sonic boom) and down->up moves (flash kick) on a Dpad

I main Bison so I use charge moves all the time. The key is to slide from left to right or from down to up in one smooth motion.

Not messing up the [charge <><>] ultra input with the d pad is another thing though. Its especially bad for Bison because the stupid teleport comes out half the time.

So can XBox360 and PC players play together? My friend and I are trying and can't seem to figure it out (if we even can).

I can't do any charge moves with a PS2 controller...at least they're extremely difficult. Sonic booms I can pull off but most others I can't, especially ultimate combos that require <-charge->charge<--> Can't do them using analog or the D-pad. Don't want to invest $150 in a SF fightstick though :p

I've unlocked every character, including seth. Seth does WAY too little damage compared to his AI counter part. In fact, people don't like using seth because he can pull off massive combos without much punishment.

I've been using the keyboard since day one. I've won several championships. My only gripe on this game (if you can even call it one) is how it's just a direct port of the Xbox 360 version of the game. I wish they would make this from the ground up, and mirror the arcade more! The lack of a LAN feature (which all arcade uses) and the sub-arcade-graphics kind of makes me wish for more. Heck, the arcade spec is even worse than my computer! (E6400, 2GB 7900GS, realtek HD Audio on WinXP Embedded - arcade spec). Yet the graphics still looks better on the arcade!

here is a side by side comparison of the arcade and the PC (Higher resolution of the X360) edition of SF4

SF4 for the PC (Look at the details in the stage/characters)
Arcade (I know first stage is different, but the second is the same)

Look at the details in lighting and shadowing! Even the characters seems to sport more details!

oh yeah and the PS3 Joystick will not work with Nvidia Chipset computers. (780i, 680i, etc.) You need to purchase a separate INTEL PCI USB card for it to work. Intel MOBO's work fine without any issues!

The Logitech Rumblepad 2 works great, though Guile's super and ultimate combos are still 50/50 for me. But I only play the game here and there so I maybe I just need to practice my thumb kung fu :) The rumblepad's d-pad and analog sticks (and size of the controller) definitely feels better than the PS3 one to me.

finbarqs, how do you manage with a keyboard?! Whats your key layout and any tips? Think I might give it a try.

well obviously zangief is not a character I use! But, yes, I used the keyboard to unlock all the characters with. The only problem I had was with Viper. But My layout:

W-A-S-D for movement, and T-Y-U for punches, and G-H-J for kicks. R for 3P, and F for 3K.

Hope that helps!

I use keyboard only also, and it is easier than the joystick for quarter circles, side to side charge moves and dragon punches, harder for 360s and down-up charge moves. I do use Zangief and am able to pull off the 360, but i usually have to jump in or be getting up.

Got my bundle today, and I can't get the Madcatz fightpad working under Windows 7. I plugged it in, the driver loaded automatically, I fired up the game, and the controller goes dead. No lights on, nothing.

Look in Device Mangler and it now says "this device will not start".

I have to plug it in to a different USB port for it to be recognized again.

Yeah it's a beta product, I know, just wondered if anyone else has it working in Windows 7. This is the latest RC, btw.

Maybe this is also related to the fightstick issue. The fightstick need to be connected to a UHC USB controller else it won't work.

Does it work on another computer or operating system?

anyone have a good handle on focus dash cancel combos? i see them being used by the good players on youtube but can't execute em. at a certain point when the guy takes a hit and before he recovers, you get in your combo and then finish it off with a ultra or ex combo.

Not sure. My other machine here @ home is Linux so I'll need to get an install of XP on my main box if I want to try it.

Any you guys want to play a decent balrog?

Send me a friend request ... purbeast ... we can run some matches :)

I'm looking to find some really good Sagats that I can play on a regular who can kick my ass so I can get better.

I can also guarantee you that I will put up a challenge regardless :)

It really varies by players as well. You tend to see more of the shoto players using FADC than the charge characters, simply because you can combo into them a lot easier.

I would say the majority of FADC is used to juggle into Ultras, as well as to not whiff a move that could be very easily punished (like a dragon punch or tiger uppercut) and even in that case, the majority of the time you can throw or attack your opponent because they don't expect the FADC.

so for the people who play online, how is matchmaking system? and how is the hit registration when latency isn't the best? i heard you have to set it on fixed frame rate to avoid sync problems between 2 players.

if you're gonna go out and get a pad, get the madcatz fightpad. it's a bitch to play with the shoulder buttons instead of 6 buttons together. i have rumblepad, but i need the 6 buttons together so i'm looking at the madcatz.

it's pretty good. i'd say 90% of the matches i've played in are 'lag free' so to speak. it's never going to be the same as offline but it can almost feel like the person is right next to you.

as for the framerate, i'd suggest to keep it on locked so it sticks at 60fps. i haven't tried w/out that but from having played it on 360 and ps3 a ton, i can tell you that the frames of animation are very important when doing combos and stuff. having a varying rate, which will be higher than 60, would throw me off.
