The problem was that some idiot left their broken down van in a lane of traffic.

Foreign cars are harder to wreck.
... or have better brakes or smarter drivers ?

Oh Jesus H Christ. That's fvcking ridiculous. I mean come on. Seriously.
You guys take "import fanboyism" to record levels.
In case you hadn't noticed, there's a goddamn VAN parked in the LEFT LANE of a BUSY FREEWAY at NIGHT.

Unless you were just being sarcastic..in which case, I think I need a new meter.

I'm not surprised that there were a couple more piled up afterwards.

Here in Belgium, you HAVE to drive on the right, unless overtaking, and there is a lot of respect on the roads here. Because of this we don't have pockets of no cars, and then suddenly 50 cars. I witnessed these pockets in NY/NJ.

Pretty bad accident though.

Everyone was going way too fast for what was going on. Could they not see the cones, the brake lights, everything going on?

...."You better slow your a$$ down fool, this is a neighborhood, this ain't no residential district!"

A cookie to who can tell me who said that..

Kind of weird that the cars are crashing into those stationary cars when it's so obvious... must be staged...

Well I can say that I've been to CA twice (just got back last night from SD actually)... and the people over there drive much faster as an avg speed. The 4-lane freeways (which are the majority of the roads) have right-lane drivers going near 80mph. It's not even that fast as an avg in the left-lanes of highways in NY. People out there are just so used to the open freeways (when there's no traffic) that they drive with reckless abandon a lot more often.

Is driving in the NY/NJ area the worst thing ever?!!! Pppl here are supposed to drive on the right unless passing, too. It is the law. But ppl ignore it.
hahaha!!
And notice how they will drive up the azz of the car in front of them at 70mph?

I have driven ... for years... in Europe and much of the US. There is nothing like driving here. And it really hits home when VeggieFrog and Neosenate are here from the UK and he is like :Q when driving here.

look again, the cars that crashed are not hitting their brakes after their wreck (no brake lights)... so people coming in at 50mph+ with no depth perception at night are assuming it's all good...

Pile-ups happen because of this initially... then when everyone starts noticing and brake lights are abound... then you just have a regular traffic jam.

Looked real to me.

Thats often happens on highways when there is an unexpected obstruction.

I think he was one of those accident re-creater guys and he was there to film what happened in the first accident and then sh!t hit the fan. All i can think for the accident is that it was right around a corner or something.

This reminds me of the video with the reporter filming a story about a dangerous intersection, and as he is giving the live report, a car goes through a stop sign and is broadsided by a truck.

Who in their right mind leaves a vehicle stopped on a moving lane of a highway without using their Hazzard Lights to warn other motorists? That's just plain ignorance.

I have my camera with me at all times. It's an old Canon A-40, take stills and 30 second video clips. I have filmed many accidents as well as Tornadoes etc.
