Steven Seagal vs the HOA

SCOTTSDALE, AZ - Many Valley residents have had frustrating experiences with their homeowners association and now so has a popular action hero.

Actor Steven Seagal is fighting with his HOA in north Scottsdale.

He lives in a gated community with multi-million dollar homes.

"I think this kind of activity is a little bit heavy-handed, all they had to do was contact my attorney," said Seagal. "They know who he is and as far as I'm aware I'm the only home where they've put these boulders."

Seagal asked that ABC15 not show what he looks like right now because he says he's working on some undercover projects with law enforcement.

But he and his attorney say this all started when the HOA started complaining about workers' vehicles parked in front of the actor's north Scottsdale home.

"They were very upset because there were numerous cars here, but there had to be cars here because the home hadn't been lived in for two years," said Seagal's attorney, Mark Goldman.

Emails went back and forth between Goldman and the HOA management company. Then last week the fight really picked up steam when some Fred Flintstone-sized boulders started appearing one after another along the road in front of Seagal's property.

"I was shocked to see that someone, I'm assuming the homeowners association, dropped these boulders off on both sides of my house where I own the property," Seagal said.

His attorney argues not only are the boulders an eyesore but could pose a potential safety risk, especially at night.

"It's causing a danger and a hazard to anyone who comes up and down the road," Seagal said.

No one from the HOA or its management company returned our calls, but records show the actor owns the property on both sides of the road.

"The reason he moved into a gated HOA was so that he could have peace and tranquility," Goldman said. "Instead this HOA has done nothing but act with him in an argumentative manner."

Do HOAs ever actually return phone calls? Mine only does when I submit a BBB complaint against them. Obviously, they're picking a fight with Seagal because he has money, and they want that money. Of course, he doesn't exactly back down from a fight either, and that same money can tie up the HOA in a court room.

yeah, in his dreams. what a fucking tool

Well he is a police officer, so it's not that unbelievable that he might be doing some undercover work. He didn't say he was going undercover to take down the rest of the Taliban forces in Afghanistan. For all you know he's going undercover to break up a small local car theft ring. You know police go undercover all the time right?

You sound like the tool here, why so bitter man?

Haha wow I really do sound like an idiot! I didn't know he was an actual deputy sheriff, thought he just played one a few times and was putting on some sort of tough-guy act. Nevermind.

Don't sell yourself short. It is possible that he just used that as an excuse because he may have gone overboard on the doritos and underboard on the personal hygiene lately.

He has a long penchant for exaggeration and aggrandizing. On one episode of his "Lawman" TV show, he claimed that when he came down to Jefferson Parish to teach them some martial arts, they invited him to shoot on their combat range or something. And he claims he out-shot all the SWAT guys, so he was invited to come do their firearms and marksmanship training as well. Could be true, but it would mean Jefferson Parish had some lousy firearms trainers and piss-poor marksman.

It's LA... I would assume most of their cops suck. All the cops I saw on Lawman were old and overweight.

Actually also on that show, he demonstrated his pistol skills. From about 30 feet he put a bullet right on the bulls eye, and then put a second bullet IN the first bullet hole. He knows what hes doing.

Edit: Perhaps my recollection was slightly off, heres the clip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IfztQ5c5UMw

He's legit, you mean you believe what he says is an exaggeration. He is very good with firearms. Also 2 of the top fighters in UFC credit him with helping them hone their skills. You're calling him claims false simple because you don't believe him, not because you have any proof to back it up. watch the video posted a few up, he's legit with a gun. He claims he's been shooting every day for 20 years, so it should be expected he's good.b34

He is also, if memory serves me correctly, an 7th Dan in Aikido. So his martial arts skills aren't exactly lacking either.

He's a major celebrity. They're star struck. Patrick Smith was demonstrating the frontal 'push' or snap kick in UFC fights wayyyyy back in UFC #1, a variation of the exact same kick that Seagal was credited with teaching Silva (though Silva did a standing push kick). e.g.

This kick has been used in UFC 1000 times, all the way back to UFC #1. I seriously doubt someone of Anderson Silva's caliber was only first exposed to it a year ago courtesy of Seagal. And Seagal was teaching Silva a push or snap kick to the mid-section or pelvis, not to the face/head as Silva used in his fight against Belfort:

No, I'm calling his claims exaggerated or aggrandizing because that's what they are, he has a LONG history of it.

FWIW, Seagal's claim is that he was out-shooting SWAT team members 20 years ago. IOW, he joined Jefferson Parish 20+ years ago. So by your own statement, he was just a beginner at the time he supposedly "out-shot" experienced SWAT guys on a shooting range.

I don't doubt he is a proficient marksmen TODAY (after 20 years), but that was not the time-frame for his claim.

Are you freakin' saying that with a straight face? Seriously? That was a WHITE BELT Karate kick. And if you were looking for marital arts training, KICKING is not something Steven is any good at. His style is Aikido which basically has NO kicks. And the kicks they do have are nothing special. VERY basic stuff (kicks that is).

I didn't think people believed that load of crap. Apparently they do. 🙄

He can probably kick your entire family's asses from here til Sunday, several different ways.

In 4 different interviews both Machida & Silva give nothing but praise to him and say they learned it from him. Sorry but I'm going to take their word over yours. Especially considering they're shelling out money for him to train them. Both know infinitely more about fighting than you even think you know about it. Or maybe it's just an odd coiendience both fighters used a nearly identical move in the PPV's they were in right after Steven started to train with them. Anderson Silva's one of the most arrogant fighters on the planet, he's the MMA equivalent of Mayweather, but probably even worse. No way in hell would be give Seagal credit unless he deserved it. That kick's almost never used in MMA, that's why Rogan & Goldie almost ejaculated due to excitement when Silva used it. It might be as you call it, a "basic move" but it's not something you see.

Washed up fat guy fights HOA.
I do hope it works out for him.
Would he get in trouble kicking the HOA members with his awesome moves? I guess they could just run in circles until he gets worn out.
"How does a man too old and overweight to lift his legs above his waist teach someone how to kick?"
LOL.

🙄 I love armchair MMA fans. Go to a Karate school and ask one of their white belt students to show you a front snap kick and see if it looks anything like what Silva credits Seagal with "teaching" him. You obviously don't know anything about martial arts except what you see on the UFC, so it's no surprise you'll believe anything they feed you. Typical modern day UFC fans.
